Chapitre 32: C32. Rescue Mission (II)
"The Monsters of the Dark Forest?" Palmer tilted his head as he thought,
"Oh!" He suddenly raised his finger, "Isn't that the creepy story we get told at night when we were kids?" He looked over a Sara, "You know that one?"
Sara slowly shook her head, "No...? What's it about?"
"The one where it goes 'If you wander the forest at night, the Monsters of the Dark Forest will eat you alive!'" Palmer recounted, glancing around the room to see quite a few people nodding along.
Sara raised an eyebrow as she turned to Professor Genosa, "Is it that one?" She asked with slight suspicion.
"Yes. The monsters who were used as childhood nurseries to scare children from wandering the forest at night." He nods,
"Well, what about that little nursery rhyme?" Sara asked, a slight suspicion on what he would say next, "How is it related to Lenso's disappearance? Are you saying he got snatched by the Monsters of the Dark Forest?"
He nods slowly as he slowly walked to the map, "According to my research, the Monsters of the Dark Forest has been sealed within the forest for the past 200 years." He slowly skimmed around the map, seemingly in search for something,
"Ah. Here." He suddenly pointed at a specific location of the map, "The Cover of the Mountains, the Whispers of the River. The Cries of the Ground and the Whimpers of the Trees. The perfect recipe to set up a powerful, long-lasting seal." He pointed at the exact spot where Lenso had fallen, however when Sara had pointed out the location before, Assistant Professor Genosa had stood at the back of the ground, hence him pointing at that exact location was purely on his own calculations, instead of basing it off her previous recollection.
"If the Young Duke had disappeared in this exact location, then there's a high chance that the seal had become undone temporarily and engulfed him inside, therefore causing him to disappear in a bright flash of light as said by Mr Palmer here, and also explains how we haven't found a single trace of him since." Genosa concluded, looking back up, assessing the reaction of others.
"So... you're saying..." Professor Sylis rubbed her forehead as she frowned, "The Young Duke... was pushed... coincidently fell into a 'seal' which coincidently opened just for him... which happened to house the 'monsters' of the nursery rhyme... all of this hypothesised by the personifications of some trees and mountains or whatnot?"
"The word 'cover' isn't a personifica-" Genosa rebutted before cutting himself off as he realised that wasn't the main issue of her scepticism.
"Why would anyone believe that the 'Monsters of the Dark Forest' is real anyway. It could just be talking about the wyvern or basilisk." Sylis continued, sprouting shimmers of doubt within the minds of those around her,
"No, no. Professor Genosa here has a point," Professor Deil suddenly cut in, deep in thought, "If the Young Duke did indeed fall victim to the seal, how do we open it?" He turned to the Assistant Professor,
"To open that seal, we would require the seal's key, which is often unique upon different seals." He replied, "However, since the seal seemed to have been manually opened recently to allow the Grand Duke to fall in, I could be able to trace the mana of the key and attempt to identify it."
