Have you ever wanted to vicariously live through characters with more accidental rizz than you'll ever have in your entire life? If depressingly so, I've got great news for you as we center ourselves on the webtoon Daybreak by moosop!
Summary
In the Kingston High School students, Marcus and Cog's usual routine seems completely out of whack when they are in each other's sights. But, from rampant blushes, fiery misunderstandings, and compassionate gestures, it seems the two can't help but see one another as a light brighter than Daybreak now if one of them would just be man enough to admit it.
Characters
Marcus: Repping the titles of male wife, cinnamon roll, and sunshine all at once, Marcus is quite the character. With his crush on Cog being about as evident as you can get, Marcus is often incredibly cheery, supportive, flirtatious, and brotherly. In an attempt to get closer to Cog, Marcus often offers his cooking specialties and forward personality to spend more time with him.
Cog: The relative Yang to Marcus' Yin Cog is slightly more reserved than Marcus. He often portrays himself as a lot more daring, straightforward, and reserved. However, once he develops a crush on Marcus, he starts to let his guard down, becoming far more flustered.
Toma: Cog's best friend, Toma, is often accident-prone and a tiny bit more reckless. Often serving as the third wheel to our twin MCs, his more blunt attitude put's into perspective our clueless our precious bois are.
Summary
If you put a gun at my head and told me to describe this series in five words, it would be: this is totes adorbs, man. Moosop quickly has one of the most charming and aesthetically pleasing art styles I've seen in a minute. The character designs of Marcus and Cog tell you frankly everything you need to know about their personalities, and I love it.
The way the main location of the chapter is always the first image, the changing colors of the background to help better reflect the characters' moods (similar to Down to Earth), and overall expressions create a pretty great vibe. And while the slice-of-life genre almost always entails some form of stagnation, there's a sense of continuity as the realtionship between Cog and Marcus intensfies.
Also, as a black man, it's a little refreshing to focus on a set of African-American characters and couples. Between the manga and manwha's, I will admit I've been majorly slacking in that regard, with only really Caster fitting the respective bill. Of course if easy representation and cuteness aren't enough Daybreak's chapters are extremely short and update twice a week. Meaning this'll sure be a fun binge read or great tudbit to start a day.
Epilgoue
All in all Daybreak is a cute bitszied Webtoon that will probably gain a huge fanbase in next couple of years. Even though Marcus and Cog's fun banter and accidental flirting is endlessly enteraining I'm definitely interested to see where their story goes from here. However I guess only time will tell how that story shall unfold, as we shift the spotlight towards somewhere else.
