Chloe sighed in defeat. She knew that ZALE was the best for her daughter. She nodded, before giving permission to the two monarchs.
"I give you the permission to send Emma to the academy," she said in defeat, her heart heavy at what she had just said. Her only daughter was to be sent to a finishing school (or an academy), to learn how to become a proper young woman for society. Of course, she was happy that the royals were to provide such luxuries to her daughter, and she was overjoyed at the fact that Emma would be able to get the education that she needed, but a part of her was devastated, sad that her daughter wouldn't be by her side at the palace. Sad that she wouldn't be able to see her daughter every day. She knew Emma would do just fine on her own, but she needed the proper reassurance.
"I do give my consent for this matter, on one condition, your majesties," Chloe started.
The King raised his brow, wondering what she wanted.
"What condition are you asking for?" He asked curiously.
Chloe took a deep breath.
"I know my daughter will do just fine in the academy, but she has to be able to bring her friend with her," she told the two monarchs.
They nodded, forgetting to explain another thing to the worried mother.
"Yes, of course. That's one thing we forgot to explain. See, when a royal gets to go to the academy to study, she gets to bring a lady-in-waiting, which fits perfectly with your condition. Your daughter will be able to bring one of her friends, or servants, if she chooses to, to bring along with her," King William explained.
Chloe let out a sigh of relief. It was settled. Emma could bring one of her friends with her, as her lady-in-waiting. This was a relief.
Chloe curtsied.
"Thank you, your majesties. I'm most grateful and pleased with this offer. I give my full consent. But if you don't mind, I'll be taking my leave to inform and properly prepare my daughter for now," Chloe said.
The two monarchs nodded, and she left the throne room with a smile plastered on her face.
She wanted to be her daughter's lady-in-waiting to look after her, and she intended to ask Emma about it to make sure she was. But, what she didn't know, was that Emma, who still hadn't known about any of this, already had the perfect lady-in-waiting when her mother even told her about it in the first place.
Chloe knocked before entering her daughter's room. There, Emma was sitting on one of the chaises there, still processing the new information she had just found out about.
She was thinking of how this would change her life, forever. She didn't have the duties of a maid anymore and didn't have to work for that snob of a prince, Adam. But on the other hand, she'd be sought out by the paparazzi and public who'd be watching her every move as she would be the newest royal. What she didn't comprehend was how obtaining a royal status wasn't easy, and how she'd have to face a series of obstacles just to obtain.
Chloe tapped her daughter's shoulder.
"Em, there's something I need to talk to you about. Something important," she started.
Emma turned around in surprise.
"Mother? Talk to me about something? About what?" She asked, knowing this probably had something to do with her being a royal and all.
Emma shifted, allowing her mother to sit beside her comfortably.
Her mother sat down beside her, preparing herself to tell Emma what she had just discussed with King William and Queen Isabelle.
"My dear sweet daughter, as you already know, you are of royal descent, and as a royal, there's a set of rules, and etiquette you must follow. I've taught you all that I know, and it's best you seek education from somewhere else. I've talked to King William and Queen Isabelle, and they, along with me, plan on sending you to the Zenovia Academy of Learning Etiquette. ZALE for short," she explained to her daughter, hoping for the best.
Emma's eyes widened.
"Mother! Why would you ever do such a thing! I can't go to some academy! I belong here, at the palace, with you!" She exclaimed, trying to reason her way out of this.
Her mother sighed.
This was going to be a difficult task to complete. Emma was stubborn if she said no, it was no. She rarely changed her mind that easily.
Yet this time, it was different. Deep down, Emma knew that this was final, and whether or not she wanted to.
"Going to ZALE will be beneficial for you. It will teach you the social graces of society and will be the perfect way of preparation for your entrance to society. Being a royal would mean you'd be heavily sought out by the public and the citizens and subjects of Zenovia. This is what's best for you, Em. I already gave my consent for this. There's no going back, Emma, I'm sorry," she said guiltily, a slight flash of hope in her eyes.
Emma kept quiet. Her mother had chosen the choice for her. She had to go to ZALE. It was the King and Queen's orders. She simply couldn't go against it.
Emma placed her head on her mother's frail shoulders and sighed in defeat.
Her mother caressed her daughter's cheek.
"Emma, it's going to be fine. Besides, there's one condition that I insisted on when you'll go to ZALE," Chloe told her daughter.
Emma raised her head from her mother's shoulder.
"What? What's the one condition?" She asked curiously, wondering how this news could anyhow improve.
"You get to bring someone as your lady-in-waiting," Chloe finished.
She was about to say something else before Emma reacted to all of this.
"A lady-in-waiting? I could bring someone with me?" She asked, firing questions at her mother, who was just about to suggest herself as Emma's lady-in-waiting.
Chloe answered her daughter's question.
"Yes, you can," she answered, knowing the right thing to do. She'd let her daughter pick who she wanted to go with. She had already forced her daughter to go to ZALE. The least she could do is place some trust in her daughter.
"Who are you choosing to be your lady-in-waiting?" Chloe asked.
Of course, the answer was obvious. Emma already had someone in mind. If anyone was going to go and suffer with her, it'd be her best friend, Lily. Lily had never gotten proper education, and this opportunity would have definitely interested her. If anyone was going with Emma, it had to be her. Emma wouldn't have gotten through her tough times in the palace without her.
"I'd bring Lily of course," Emma answered without any hesitation.
