Chapitre 65: Something Terrible
Ianin hovered over Araia who sat against the wall, she was just barely strong enough to stay there. The silverfish brought Ianin everything he needed including food. He tried to get Araia to eat morsels of meat and berries but at last she lacked the strength. Ianin resolved to tipping small amounts of crushed mushroom soup into her mouth which he warmed over the fire. Araia was grateful to him but barely able to do anything. Repeatedly Ianin had tried to find a way to take her out of the cave insisting his cousin could heal her.
But Araia stayed put, she claimed she could not leave, and at last there was no exit.
Bit by bit Araia was regaining her strength.
When Ianin wasn't coaxing her to eat he was with the bookshelf.
The bookshelf contained many many volume of books. Ianin had begun to read one, but was often interrupted by the silverfish and therefore got almost no where.
One particular time Araia was almost able to stand on her own feet. Ianin offer her an arm and just when she let go suddenly she fell to the floor clutching her head.
"Something terrible has just happen..." she cried, she curled up into a ball. Ianin knelt beside her but was helpless to watch her suffering.
"What has happened?" he whispered quietly.
But Araia whimpered and then suddenly with a shudder she went still. Ianin felt her neck and found she still was alive but barely. Panicking he tried to gather her in his arms and transform, but it would not work. So he lay her back on the floor and ordered the silverfish to bring him something soft. They returned with stringy stuff which Ianin shaped into a bed. Carefully he lay her down on it.
Ianin wanted to leave and find his cousin. But he couldn't leave her like this.
"Ianin.." she muttered.
He perked up a bit.
"Would you read to me?" she asked. Her eyes closed again.
He nodded. He reached toward a worn book.
"Not that one, nothing good, nothing good." she muttered, "tell me about your family."
And so Ianin read her the tales of the brothers. While he read to her he found his own mind turning.
