When Epis returned home he realized he missed being at the village immensely. At first he could not figure out why. So he chose to return temporarily. After all he was full grown and mostly free to do as he pleased. Airabella was hesitant still to see him go, what surprised him more was the severe look Enisia gave him when he told her he intended to return to the village. In fact Enisia's wolves growled at him now too.
He asked her what the matter was, but she refused to answer.
And so he went off.
They were surprised to have him back, but quite frankly happy enough. It was in only his second day when he heard crying from one of the houses. Curious he headed toward the source of the sound. An older man and woman flocked to him when they saw him begging him to help.
They told him their daughter had fallen into a sleep and no one could awaken her.
Epis had never heard of such a thing happening before. But sure enough on the bed in the house lay a young woman, eyes closed oblivious to the world.
Epis leant next to her, he lay a hand on her forehead. Her state was strange he realized.
"It would seem she's been poisoned somehow," he said.
"Can you heal her?"
"I can try." Epis said gravely.
He focused his energy and bit by bit he managed to bring the girl back. Finally her eyes fluttered. Epis stepped back and allowed her parents to engulf her in their arms. The girl looked past them to Epis.
Something seemed to pass between them.
Her name was Maiela.
She was strong yet beautiful. She could sing so prettily Epis would feel enchanted by it.
Epis wondered vaguely if his sister had known somehow.
Epis was falling in love for the first time. Maiela seemed to return his feelings. Though Epis warned her his parents would not approve of her. Maiela didn't care what Epis's mother and father would think. Maiela's parents had never stopped being grateful toward Epis and seemed quite oblivious to their daughters love. Not everyone was pleased with their relationship though.
And so soon enough the two of them set off away from the village. Maiela left her parents an exclamation for her leaving.
They set up a house in a flower forest. It was a small place but still grand. From time to time Epis left to return to his parents, but soon he would return. Together the two of them would have many children.
For a time it seemed all was right in the world.
