Chapitre 23: The trial of the three daughters
It had been a calm day for Maiguh as he awaited his daughters message. Time passed slowly in the End, and his mother barely spoke to him anymore. He missed his children terribly. It was then he was interrupted by strange beings, they were tall and black and lanky. He had never seen beings like them before. He approached them, and as he got closer they began to chatter at him in strange voices, there chattering was hurried and distorted.
Maiguh reached a hand out toward them, and memories seemed to flow to him from the creatures. He saw human lives happening before his eyes, the three seemed to be young men. At first Maiguh was confused by what he was being shown, but quickly he grew alarmed. For the memories had a sour twist. He watched great violence unfold before him, and then finally the memories ended.
Shaking slightly, Maiguh knew what he needed to do. He had never tried to leave the End before, he had come to like his quiet real. But he could see that he had no choice, if the creatures memories were true his daughter were in great peril. He did something he'd never felt the power to do, but fueled by his emotion he found it worked. He arrived shortly in the overworld, and traveled quickly through the caves to his brothers palace.
When he arrived all was quiet, it was late at night and most of his siblings and family had retired for the evening. But Onicent still sat on his throne. Maiguh walked with measured steps, keeping a calm demeaner. When Onicent saw him he startled.
"You dare come here?" Onicent glared at him, "your request was denied, you have no business here."
Maiguh kept calm, all those years in the End made him constant and hard to shake. "Where are my daughters brother?"
Onicent's expression changed, and that was when Maiguh realized he had made a mistake. Onicent wasn't all knowing. Maiguh watched his brother face become more sinister.
"I thought, perhaps, that there was more to my daughters attack them the humans. Your daughters set them on her, did they not?" Onicent snarled.
Maiguh weighed his options, but there was no one he could hide his daughters deeds. "Peace, I will not deny that my children did contribute to this tragedy."
"Bring them forth then, and let them be punished, no one harms my children."
"They will stand trial then," Maiguh countered.
"They will stand before me!" Onicent screamed.
From the side another voice spoke, "that is not our way Onicent."
Dauntice came into the room. Maiguh hardly recognized him.
"We decide punishment together."
Onicent got a sulky look. "Fine, call my wife and her sisters."
Airabella came shortly after, followed by Serse and Alora. Alora saw Maiguh and got a slight smile. Onicent did not fail to notice that. Maiguh raised his hand and called his daughters, they came to his side instantly. When they saw the ensembled gods and goddess's they hissed lowly.
"Fetch Feia," Onicent demanded, Airabella gave him a sour look but scurried off to find the girl. All the siblings settled into their own thrones around Maiguh and his daughters. The daughters pressed closely to Maiguh in fear.
At last Airabella came back with the child. Onicent took Feia from Airabella's arms and shoved her roughly in front of Maiguh.
"Your daughters caused this," he said.
Maiguh came forward and with a light touch tilted the child's head up to see the wound. Feia was shaking slightly. "I won't harm you little one." Maiguh said softly, he saw that the damage was deep and unfixable, then he let her go. She sunk back into her mothers arms.
He looked at his daughters, "why did you send humans after this little one?"
"Her father disrespected you, he refused to call a meeting on the matter of your place in this assembly."
"Is this true?" Dauntice said. Onicent said nothing.
The other girls also looked unhappy.
"We are supposed to work as a counsel." Alora said darkly.
Onicent ignored her. Instead he raged at Maiguh, accusing his daughters of treason, the other gods and goddess's stayed back and said nothing. At last they came to the end. Onicent wished to have the girls thrown into the void never to come back. The others agreed to punish them greatly, but many of them were fuming at Onicent. At last they came to an agreement. Maiguh's daughters would be split up between realms. Endra was sent to the end to guard the dead, Nevlin was sent to the Nether, and Dinetee was kept in the overworld as a guide to the deceased humans. Perhaps Dinetee got the best treatment for her connections to Alora and Airabella who felt mercy in return for the help the girl had given them.
Maiguh turned with the daughters to leave, but as they left Onicent struck them. Raggedy wings sprouted from the daughters backs. Maiguh turned back to Onicent and for the first time he spoke with coldness, "that was unnecessary." Then he left.
But something in the room had changed, and Onicent felt it. The others looked to Maiguh more then him. Onicent would need to do something about that. That was when he saw a flash of green, a light coloured girl was creeping to the doorway. But before he could get a better look she was gone.
