| The Death Ball
Alexis's POV:
Today was the day. The day people will find out about my true identity and honestly I dont know how to feel about it. I thought about my mom and what she'll think about me now.
Will she be proud of me?
I tried all these years to find who murdered her but anyone I asked always ran away and the next day they were found dead. it was as if someone didn't want me to find out but I was persistent. I wasnt going to give up like that.
'I promise I will get revenge for you mom', I said as I touched a necklace that she once wore when it was her time to attend this same ball. I was somehow drawn between nervousness and excitement but most importantly fear. Terry told me I would need to be extra guarded tonight because everyone wants me either dead or my head on a platter.
'You ready?', Kamile said coming beside me looking into the mirror.
'Yea', I said trying to force a smile.
'You look beautiful', he said placing a quick kiss on my lips.
'Thanks. You look good too', I joined our hands together.
'C'mon. We dont want to be late', he put his hand on my waist and led me downstairs. My dad was waiting by the stairs with a worried expression. When he saw me he put on a wide smile.
'Alex. You look beautiful', he said hugging me tightly like I would disappear any minute. I felt bad because I've been too selfish for the past week. I know he didn't mean any harm but I was still angry that he organised my marriage.
'Dad I just want to say I'm very sorry for...', he cut me off.
'No dont apologise. I understand your anger. it okay. Just be careful tonight Okay?'. I nodded. 'Be by her side at all times no slacking off', he said seriously to terry. I took a deep breathe and followed Kamile to the limo waiting.
'After you mi'lady', he said in a fake British accent which made me giggle. 'Here', he said giving me a mask.
'For what exactly?'.
'The first part of the ball is a masquerade ball so you should keep that on and it's also dangerous especially for you'. I nodded and put the mask on. The rest of the journey was filled with silence but Kamile still held my hand deep in thoughts. I couldn't help but think of Rafeal for an odd reason and it caused an ache in my heart.
'Where here', the driver said dragging me from my thoughts. He opened my side and Kamile took my hand leading me to a secret entrance. Everywhere was full of paparazzi and cars. When we got inside so many people where inside but everyone had a mask on. Terry kept looking around for any suspicious activity and I felt safe.....kinda.
'Silence everyone', a woman said from the middle of the room. On either side of her where two bulky men dressed in black. 'Welcome to our 100th annual mafia ball', she said smiling and everyone started clapping. 'I know everyone is excited to know each of the mafia's but we have to be patient because....'.She was cut of by a man with white hair and a mischievous smile. He looked almost....evil.
'I'm here. I won't miss this for the world',he smiled then our eyes met but he didn't look away. He gave me a threatening look that sent shivers down my spine. Kamile noticed this and pushed me behind him but still held my hand tightly.
'Now now. Lets start from our top mafia's, The Luccahnes and the Comasina's'. Terry came to my side and took me to the middle of the big hall.
I stood near Terry wanting the ground to swallow as every pair of eyes was on me. Like Kamile said everyone wants to know who is the daughter of one of the most powerful mafia leaders.
'Everyone this is Alexis Grey. The new leader of the Luccahnes', the old creepy man said and told me to remove my mask. I hesitated but removed it anyways. I heard gasps and mumers but I heard a familiar voice that made me freeze on the spot.
