Chapitre 37: Message for the Army
Chapter 37.
01. Reskeme woke up feeling like he had been run over by a horse kart, He had heard people describe a hangover and he decided that this was as close as he had gotten to having one. Reskeme was thirsty and had a huge headache, Reskemes throat was dry and he coughed for a few moments to help clear his throat. He sat up in bed and pulled out his mana gauge, He looked at his mana gauge and was happy to see that it showed a full blue circle. Reskeme smiled and slowly began channelling his mana, He focused on creating the first layer. Reskeme was a little uncomfortable when he first started channelling as his mana veins were still sore.
02. Reskeme added his second layer of mana after his first making both layers as thick as he could. When he finally completed his spells, Reskeme looked down at his mana gauge and noticed 20percent of his mana was missing. He was surprised and hoped the mana gauge was accurate. Reskeme stood, now much more confident for the rest of the day. He walked over to the door before he turned remembering something, Reskeme had seen a small chest last night but didn't open it. He walked over to the small chest and pulled on the lid, He felt silly but it was worth a try at least.
03. Reskeme reached into his pocket fumbling for a moment, He grumbled to himself it appeared he had forgotten his lockpick in his messengers' clothing. He cursed himself and got to his feet. Reskeme walked over to his weapon and picked up his naginata, he admired the weapon again, he was still wasn't able to believe it was his. Reskeme heard a loud stomping and clanging, He wondered what that was. Reskeme let the room and entered a small hallway, he followed the hall to a side training square. Reskeme was surprised when he spotted A guard standing in front of a group of 20 soldiers and watching as the soldiers marched in an even line.

04. Each soldier was dressed in leather armour, Reskeme wondered why they were making so much noise. The boots each soldier was wearing armoured leg guards and each time they stepped made a clanking sound. Light footsteps and some shuffling were the only things that hailed the arrival of Katherine. She said," oh good you are finally awake I was wondering how late you were going to wake up this morning." Reskeme looked at the yard with the soldiers and noticed the sun looked like it was high in the sky based on the shadows. Reskeme said," What do you mean this morning i have only slept for a couple of hours based on the sun." Katherine laughed and said," Come eat some food and drink water, you have been sleeping since yesterday morning."
05. Reskeme followed Katherine down the hall and around a corner, they entered a hall that was big and had rows of tables that could fit a couple of hundred people if Reskeme was guessing right. Katherine waved at a woman who was delivering food to a group of soldiers, she said, "bring us some food and water, please." The woman nodded with respect towards the weapons master, The group of soldiers glanced at Reskeme before giving a respectful nod to the scary weapons master. Reskeme could smell fresh food and didn't speak as the woman had quickly returned with some mashed potatoes and a huge loaf of bread. Reskeme drained the cup of water in one go before he asked for a refill, The woman clearly didn't want to get 10 more cups of water soo much to Reskemes joy she brought a tall jug of water for him.
06. Reskeme enjoyed the delicious warm potatoes and the fluffy bread, He devoured 2 whole plates of food much to both Katherine and the servers surprise. Katherine said," Kellar wasn't joking when he said you would be hungry after connecting with the mana gauge." Reskeme said," can I have another plate of food please, I don't eat food very often soo when I can eat free food I try and eat as much as I can." Katherine smiled and said," no more food, for now, eating too much food can cause problems serious health problems." Katherine said," I eat four to five meals a day to stay my size." Reskeme blurted out, You usually eat more than four meals a day!?" Katherine leaned back in surprise, She eyed his skinny frame and said," Yess if you want to gain muscle you need to eat a lot of food, I suggest three or four big meals a day."
07.Reskemes jaw dropped," That is crazy I haven't eaten three meals in a day before, there is no way I can afford to eat even two meals a day." Katherine looked shocked," She said," Have you only been eating one meal a day?" Reskeme said," well I try too, But I usually don't have enough money to afford a loaf of bread some days." In a clearly pissed tone, Katherine said," I won't have one of my trainees slacking off, If you half to miss training because your too hungry I will beat your ass." Katherine said," you will eat three meals a day from now on, Reskemes jaw dropped. If you ever say your too hungry to train I will have a reason to punish you."
08. Reskeme was exited and said through a mouthful of food," soo what is with all of the soldiers doing marching drills in the courtyard." Katherine's smile turned to a stern expression She said," We have begun recruiting massively in preparation for the war." Katherine said," we need as many messengers as we can get to deliver messages to our troops on the front line." Reskeme said," Is that where I'm delivering the message you talked about?" Katherine said," yes the garrison is a day walk away and is our staging point for our front line troops."
09. Reskeme was anxious about the war, He said, " will I fight the enemy? In a stern tone Katherine said," of course you might half to fight the enemy, it's why we are training you." Katherine said," don't worry, we are sending an escort with you, we cant have valuable messengers getting killed." Reskeme was yet to completely understand that the army didn't care about individual soldiers, The commanders had to look at the army as a whole and if sacrificing one would save many they would do it in an instant.
10. Katherine said," The short trip is going to be dangerous, I keep hearing reports from the commanders that raiding parties are doing hit and run tactics." Katherine sighed and with a weary look said," When you fight the enemy do not show mercy!, they don't take prisoners and kill any humans they come across."
11. Reskeme asked," why does the enemy hate us?" Katherine shrugged her shoulders, and said," They don't speak as we do, they communicate mind to mind, It's very odd, But with soul casters, we have tried to parlay with the Darva before." The one pack leader we spoke to replied with hate and fury that nearly broke the mind of our soul casters. The Darva show nothing but hate and Rage when in the presence of humans, all the captured pack leader said," was that they would take back what we had stolen from them. "
12. Reskeme immediately got to his feet in excitement and said," I heard tales on the streets of Our armies and the armies of the allied Orcs pushing back the Darva menace 50 years ago. Katherine shuddered and said in a hushed tone," The Darva hate us and the orcs beyond reason, and attack us without mercy and with extreme ferocity." Reskeme asked," Have you fought them?" Katherine said," of course, I have fought them many times, They are smart and strong. I retired from the front however, we have lost too many of our trained troops over the past year and needed more trainers." Kellar is heading to the front to assist with the efforts, Katherine said," if I'm being honest we seem to lose more soldiers every month than we did the last."
13. Reskeme said," Why haven't we heard about the war, here in the city before now?" Katherine winced and said," I'm only telling you this because it's currently being released by the news office." We didn't want the city to panic and people to start leaving, We need villagers to help feed the troops, and having no citizens makes that difficult. Katherine said," you will meet the enemy soon enough, by the looks of things it's only a matter of time before they are ready for an all-out assault on the kingdom.
14. Katherine stood, She handed him A rolled-up scroll from her coat and said," Go change into your messengers' outfit at the guild and report back to the gate. I will have A squad ready to escort you to The eagles peak garrison in 20 minutes." Reskeme pushed away his plate away after gleefully licking it clean, He was nervous and excited. He left the lunchroom. Reskeme passed the training hall, and tried not to stare at any of the menacing soulders that would probably be heading for the front soon.
15. After 2 minutes of walking Reskeme arrived at the messengers guild hall. He opened the door before entering the building, Hank wasnt there but Reskeme decided he didnt need his boss to get dressed. Reskeme entered the side room, He got dressed and put his dirty cloths in a hamper. Reskeme put his scoll he was supposed to deliver in his uniform. Reskeme left the room and walked back out to the street, He quickly jogged back down the street to the front of the garrison gate. Three soldiers were standing in front of the gate and holding horses.
16. Reskeme was going to pass the three warriors when one said," are you Reskeme" he turned only to realize this must be the squad going to escort him. One smaller guard with long brown hair said, "This young boy cant be the one we are supposed to escort, he probably hasn't even learned to ride yet." Reskeme ignored the comment but was nervous as he hadn't ridden a horse before. A second guard said," It's definitely him he's the only boy I have ever seen carrying a spear through the city." The leader of the group was a short woman with black hair and brown eyes dressed in armour and a cloak. She said, "I'm Sergent Carley, don't worry about brad he is a bit of an ass."
17. Each guard was riding a huge horse with a bow, arrows and a sword on their side, Reskeme wondered how in the hell they had afforded all that cool armour. Reskeme walked over and said," nice to meet you." Carley pointed to the guard with long brown hair, This is Brad, she pointed to the other guard and said, "this is Dusty." Dusty was well-muscled and had bright blue eyes with blond hair, he simply nodded and didn't seem to care about who Reskeme was. Sergent Carley said," that's enough slacking off we are heading out hurry up and hop on your horse, Brad grab his lead rope soo he doesn't get lost in the city." Brad grabbed Reskemes spear and lifted him like a sack of grain onto the saddle of the small brown horse. All the guards mounted their horses and Reskemes horse was pulled behind them as they weaved through the city and left the outside gate. All he could do was hold on for dear life as his cranky horse tried to scrape him into every passer-by or cart they came across.
