Meanwhile Surell made it back to her dwelling. It was far away from the castle, deep within the swamp lands. She hated the place. She and her father had built a wooden stilt shack next to the murky waters. As she entered her house she saw that her father was waiting for her.
"You're back," he said, "and I see that you are not the new queen. I told you it was not going to be so easy. That demon lord has unimaginable power. I am sure, whoever he chose as his wife, must be near his equal."
"It wasn't fair!" Surell stomped her foot. "I won! I beat Tyrell and the elf. All that was left was the weak, worthless girl."
"If she was so weak and worthless, why did you lose?" Surell's father said.
"Oh, what shame it must be for the great General Jarl to have a daughter who cannot beat a human!" Surell snapped at him. "There was something wrong with her! She's not normal!"
