Chapitre 61: Conflict

As in the last class Sian explained the difference between primordial and progressive magic, in today's he explained briefly about how spells work.

With expressions thirsty for knowledge, Illianna, Tina and Emily were paying attention to every word Sian said. Although they were also paying attention, Ophilia and Fran did not show much interest in learning. Both seemed satisfied that their daughters were learning to use magic.

"Wait, I still have a question."

Just as Sian was about to end the class, Illianna interrupted.

Apparently, although Sian claimed that her ability could create spells, she herself did not believe in this possibility. But according to Sian, it was all a matter of her closed mind limiting her own skill.

The description of her skill said that she could create objects as long as she had the necessary knowledge. The object that her skill referred to was a very broad term, just as a stone could be considered one, a spell was also the same.

Because of this wide scope, Sian believed that her skill had no limits on what it could do. But despite this, the owner of the skill in question kept a skeptical mind about it.

After class ended, Ophilia and Fran left Emily playing with Tina and went to buy some basic necessities. Putting the 3 guys to work, Sian also went back to work along with Illianna.

Seeing that she kept her notepad in the spatial storage, Sian had questions about how she could do that even without understanding anything about magic. When he asked, this was actually a function called inventory of that such called system she owned.

"The more I hear about this system, the more convenient it seems to be," Sian looked at Illianna with an envious expression.

"It has its benefits." Clearing her throat, she turned to Sian. "Thank you for your help."

Hearing unexpected words of thanks, Sian was about to tease her, but suddenly he changed the direction of his gaze.

"Some strangers are approaching," he squinted his eyes as he looked at the wall. "From the way they're moving, they seem to want to sneak into the site."

"Do you think they might be people who have a grudge against you?" Illianna asked.

"That's what we're going to find out now." Opening his hands in front of himself, Sian made a gray film appear. "Let's see what kind of rat is daring to sneak in here."

Quickly, the rounded gray film began to take on color and showed the image of 7 children, five boys and two girls. They were hiding behind the wall near the entrance gate.

The boys were wearing a white short-sleeved shirt with blue shorts with suspenders. The girls' clothes were almost identical, the only difference was that instead of shorts, they wore blue skirts. Since he had seen them before, Sian knew that this was the uniform of the children of the orphanage.

"Is that the clairvoyance spell of space magic?" Illianna looked up curiously.

"Yep," Sian replied. "It's pretty convenient when I want to spy."

"Now is our chance, there are no adults around."

A boy with short black hair who looked to be the oldest in his 12 or 13 years of age spoke to the children behind him.

"Can it even transmit sound?" Illianna looked surprised.

"I am quite proficient when it comes to space magic," Sian said proudly. "Even Ayze has a hard time dealing with it."

"Are we really going in?" A little girl with long hair who looked to be 11 asked. "The teacher said we couldn't come here anymore."

"We need to do it."

With his head beyond the gate, the boy looked from one side to the other carefully.

Since the three guys were on the other side of the huge mountain of earth that Sian had dug out, it was impossible for the boy to see them. It was even more difficult to locate Sian and Illianna, since they were both inside the floors dug underground.

Because of this, the only people he could see were Emily and Tina.

Seeing that it was all right for them to proceed, the boy turned to a little goatkin girl who looked to be at most 6 years old.

"Hear, since you followed us saying you want to help, you have to be quiet, not draw attention and not get in the way, got it?"

"Okay~" She nodded her head, making her long white hair that stands out from afar sway.

Having received confirmation, the boy turned and walked through the gate. Right behind him, the girl from before took the little goatkin's hand and entered, followed by four more boys who looked to be between 10 and 12 years old.

Proceeding quickly, they arrived where Tina and Emily were.

"Did you guys come to play?" Tina asked.

"Yes, we came to play!" The little goatkin girl replied in high spirits.

"No, Agnes, we didn't come to play." The boy who appeared to be the oldest scolded her.

"Orion always wants to be bossy." The little goatkin girl named Agnes grumbled as she dragged the other girl to Emily by the hand. "Come on Gina, let's leave him and go play."

"Where did you get that pretty hair tie?" Agnes pointed to the huge red bow tied to the back of Emily's hair, "It's so pretty, I want one too."

"Mommy and Daddy gave it to me." Emily replied cheerfully.

"Hey, you two, we didn't come here for that." The boy named Orion approached Gina and Agnes.

Walking through the two of them, he approached Emily. "We've come to take Emily away from that bad guy."

Just as he was about to hold Emily's hand, Tina cut between the two of them.

"She's not going with you."

Not understanding anything, Emily just stared.

"W-we need to get her out of here," Orion said with a nervous expression. "The teacher warned us not to come, but that guy is dangerous."

"Do you know that her father is a duke?" Tina held Emily's hand.

"He's not her father," Orion said in a withdrawn voice.

"He is my daddy!" Emily shouted.

"He's just fooling you."

"No!"

"Everyone says he's a duke, but has he ever done anything a nobleman does?"

"He plays with me," Emily replied.

"But doesn't he work?"

"Daddy does work," Emily nodded.

"Then what does he do?"

"...Plays with me a lot?"

"Even if you add 'a lot,' it's still the same as before," Orion protested.

Seeming to struggle to find an answer, Emily cutely tilted her head and spoke as if she had trying to guess. "Gives me a lot of yummy food?"

In an attempt to convince the others of her poor argument, Emily put her little hand in the magic bag that Sian had given her and handed out cookies to the children.

Orion tried his best to keep the children from accepting it, but the reinforcement that came with him was not cooperating with his intentions.

"It's very yummy!" Agnes said as she devoured the cookie. "Can you give me one more?"

Her actions were soon followed by the other children, the only exception being Orion. He remained quiet as he looked alternately between Tina and Emily.

As a spectator, Sian saw it all clearly, it seemed that Orion wanted to grab Emily and run away, but at the same time, he seemed afraid of Tina.

Looking at the screen, Sian laughed triumphantly. "Sooner or later those children will like me."

"I have my doubts about that," Illianna said. "That boy seems to hate you."

"I bet that's that damn teacher's fault," Sian muttered. "But sooner or later I'll pay her a visit."

"I wish I had a Dad like yours," Agnes said as she chewed on the cookies.

"I want one too," another boy said.

"What are you guys saying?!" Orion shouted. "He's a bad person."

"He's not! He helped my mother and me!" Tina retorted with an angry expression.

"Did he really help?" Gina asked.

"Of course not, she must have been tricked," Orion vehemently denied with his head. "You can't believe bad, cowardly people, this must be some scheme of his."

"If you speak ill of him again, I will beat you up like I did last time!" Tina said with a threatening expression.

Since Sian had never seen Tina act this way, he judged that something had probably already happened between her and the boy named Orion.

Orion nervously walked away. "W-we don't need to fight!"

"You always badmouth people without knowing anything, it was the same when you were laughing at my mother." Looking increasingly angry, Tina stared at him. "If you say anything, I will beat you up!"

"I-It was all a misunderstanding." Orion stepped back even further.

"She's quite bold," Illianna said. "I like her strong personality."

"Then it's the two of us," Sian stated. "She's a pretty determined girl, I have high expectations for her."

"There's no way you can beat all of us," one of the boys said as the others also approached.

"Wait!" Orion stopped the boys and said to Tina, "We don't need to fight, we're just going to take Emily back to the orphanage."

Sticking her hand into her magic pouch, Tina pulled out a stick about two feet long. "If you get any closer, I'll beat all of you up!"

"I didn't expect it to get to that point so quickly," Sian said as he undid the projection. "We'd better get over there before they end up getting hurt."

"I'm seeing all of you!" Sian shouted to the children.

Coming out of the basement floors, Sian saw the alert looks on the children's faces as they looked from side to side until they found him. Walking slowly over to them, he realized that except for the little girl named Agnes, all the children in the orphanage had shrunk away.

"You did well, as I would expect from Fran's precious daughter," Sian placed his hand on Tina's head.

"So," He smiled at the children, "what do you want with my lovely Emily?"
