Sonic's vision cleared up. There didn't seem to be any cheap camera filter this time. He appeared to be in a grassy field with rolling hills. Mountains lined the sides of the horizon. The same mountains from Green Hill Zone. Looking down from the hill he was on, it first registered in his mind that Sonja was there. She looked slightly younger, maybe between 18 and 21. She had shorter hair, and a ponytail rather than pigtails. She was wearing a black tank top and long jeans. She had legs instead of a ghost tail.
In her arms, was a small toddler. She had dark black hair, and light brown skin. She had her eyes closed and was crying. She screamed as two gloved hands reached for her. But Sonja didn't pay any mind. Looking at the gloved hands, they were connected to... Tatters! His clothes were much more vibrant than before and less dirty and dull. His facepaint was in perfect condition, no scratches or peels to be seen. He looked somehow happier as Sonja lent the child to him. The child extended her arms towards Sonja, crying and screaming. She kicked Tatters in his Eggman-like stomach as a squeaking sound accompanied the kick. To her devastation, she was pulled from Sonja gently and completely into the caring hold of Tatters.
Tatters was unphased by the kick. He must have not even felt it. He paused for a second, just smiling at the girl. Then, he started dancing around and laughing, spinning the girl around as he stared deep into her eyes, happily. The Sonja in this time was clapping and laughing.
"Mommy!" The toddler cried. Mommy...? But... how was this possible? Sonja was young, and had never told Sonic about a daughter. To forget your own child... it must be terrifying, and she didn't even know it. Sonic turned to the Sonja in his peripheral vision, the real one. She was crying and trembling, though she tried to hide it.
"Sonja, you okay?" Sonic asked. But no words came out. He could feel the slight pressure from talking and he was moving his mouth. But he couldn't hear himself.
Something soon caught Sonic's attention. In the distance, was the mansion. What Miles had called Orglace Mansion. Puzzle pieces formed together in Sonic's head. But he was pulled away from his thoughts as he noticed Sonja crying louder, completely breaking down. Looking forward, Sonic saw a woman. She looked like the woman in the shadow from when he saw Baxter get shot. Sonic furrowed his eyebrows. She had darkish brown hair, blue eyes, glasses, a lab coat, a blue skirt, and a small figure. Marilyssa Orglace.
Marilyssa kissed Sonja on the forehead. Sonic looked somewhat jealous of this Marilyssa. But then, Marilyssa turned to Tatters. He was dancing around joyously with the toddler still in hand. He had a sunflower in the other hand. He looked like he was about to give this toddler the sunflower when there was a metallic BANG!
Sonic gasped sharply, his expression softening into one of sorrow. Past Sonja seemed to also get this expression. Real Sonja absolutely lost it. Tears flooded out of her eyes as she screamed and cried.
Marilyssa had kicked Tatters in the rear as he had his back turned to her while spinning playfully. The sunflower fell out of his hand. He landed on it, crushing it. Marilyssa swooped in and grabbed the toddler from him before it hit the ground. Past Sonja tried to run forward, but was stopped by Marilyssa holding up her hand.
"What are you doing, Marilyssa?!" Past Sonja shrieked. This confirmed Sonic's theory of this person, in fact, being Marilyssa. Marilyssa handed the still screaming toddler to Sonja, who took it confusedly.
"Stay back, Sonja..." Marilyssa sputtered, genuine fear and concern in her voice. Marilyssa took a step forward towards Tatters. "You... I created you, gave you form, gave you LIFE. And now you traumatize my daughter like that?"
"Lady Marilyssa, I'm sorry!" Tatters apologized. For once, he had a frown on his face and fear in his black hole eyes. "I didn't mean to, I swear! I thought she was having fun!" Tatters scuttled away on his hands, not able to get up.
"You liar!" Marilyssa shouted, authority in her voice. She kicked Tatters again. While he was down. Sonic tried to run forward and stop this but, like usual, was stuck in place. "Do you know what happens when one of my own creations cross me?" She asked. "They. Get. Demolished."
Creations? Just what was this madwoman talking about?
"Please, stop!" Tatters wailed as tears fell from his eyes, ruining his facepaint and making the red trickle down his face. "I just wanted her to SMILE!"
"You don't make people smile. You will never make anyone smile," Marilyssa muttered, putting her foot on Tatters's forehead. Tatters gasped. He tried not to make any sudden movements. He didn't even try to resist. Marilyssa half-smiled like Sonic. "You will die never knowing the feeling of making someone happy to have you around. Now get out of my sight."
Marilyssa pushed her foot down slightly. But then, a lightbulb seemed to light up over her head. Her eyes widened as the smile faltered. "Actually..." She said, raising her foot from Tatters's forehead. He got up and looked down at her. Even without legs, he was taller than Marilyssa. "I have a better idea." She grabbed a hold of Tatters's hand and clenched it tight.
"Ow!" Tatters whined, taken aback. "You're hurting me!" Marilyssa pulled him forward, making him walk as to not fall on his face. He held the crushed sunflower in his other hand as he was taken away. "Ramona! I'm sorry! I didn't want it to be like this!"
The child looked as Tatters was taken away. She looked at Past Sonja, who was crying in fear, shaking. Marilyssa and Tatters disappeared into the mansion doors.
White enveloped Sonic's vision.
