"I... was inside Yelli room," the guard read in hesitation.
"Good, did you send this scroll?" the king said pointing to the small scroll in his hands.
The dumb maid hesitated.
Janet rolled the small ring in her hands and glared at her. This was her secret signal that said, 'Little Shit, you better not expose us, or you sister will end up in shreds.'
The Dumb maid sobbed louder and nodded her head vigorously.
King Rukle sighed. "Detain her. we shall have a detailed investigation later,"
The maid Janet started sweating. 'If King investigates deeply, I will be exposed. I have to do something,' she thought. She pulled her sleeves high and rolled her small bracelet.
The dumb maid saw this action. Her eyes went blank for a moment. Slowly, she nodded her head.
She pulled the paper from the guard's hands and scribbled, "I was the one who exposed the secrets, and I deserve to die." She sobbed louder and swallowed a secret pill hid in her sleeve.
"Wait!" the guard shouted and pulled her up, but the maid had already lost her life.
By the end of the discussion, Yelli left the room with her head raised high. She threw a gaze at Deric and humped in her heart. 'Did this kid think he can expose me that easily? Hump, he must be dreaming,' she thought in her heart.
Last night she made a special visit to Janice's room. Recollecting her plan, she softly chuckle. When she noticed her scroll in his hands her heart almost stopped, but she recollected herself and calmly send him away.
She knew her neighbour Janice had a lecherous son who was arrested recently for assaulting a young woman.
"I know about your son. I can help you save him from his death sentence," she said, sipping her cold tea.
"What! You can?" Janice exclaimed.
"I can, but I need you to help me with something," she said with a grin.
"What is it? I will do anything for my son," Janice begged.
"I want you to find me a scrape goat." Yelli whispered, sipping her green tea calmly.
"I… I can find someone." Janice who was folding her bedspread tore it in anger. "Her name is Julia, my son wanted to marry that bitch but she refused and accused him of being lecherous. It was that bitch that kept grinning at him like a fool." She cursed.
"Hmm, what if she spoke the truth," Yelli whispered in a mild manner.
"Haha, it was because of that bitch's words my son is suffering. I will tear her tongue out," Janice laughed maliciously.
Yelli banged her cup onto the table. "Are you an idiot? That doesn't keep her from exposing us," she said thought clenched teeth.
Janice's entire body trembled. "I… she… she has a sister. I... I will tell my husband to kidnap her. He has twenty hounds in his care. If Julia does not comply with us, her sister will be fed to ravenous hounds," she chuckled out loud.
"Well, I hope you handle it wisely. If you mess it up I will have your son's head in a spike," she stood up from the couch and adjusted her skirt. "Oh, by the way, mend that bed spread and give it to me," she said.
"But… But it's mine," Janice whispered.
Yelli glared at her. "Just do what you are told to."
Striding out of the courtroom, Yelli put her head down to hide her small grin. 'Everything worked according to plan. Except… that prince…'
"Prince Deric, I know you are angry about me denying your visit to the king but… you can't accuse an innocent like that," she said, wiping her tears.
"I was only stating the truth," Deric said with his eyes narrowed.
'He is thousand years too young to beat my intelligence,' she thought.
With a kind smile she whispered, "Prince Deric I hope you trust me now. I didn't have any part in this,"
"I would trust a snake rather than you," he said.
"Oh my prince, so hateful at such a young age, maybe it's because you grew without your mother,"
His jaw clenched at her remark. "Don't you dare talk about my mother?" he raged.
"Oh, but it's just an observation," Yelli said and chuckled. She gazed at his clenched fists and internally prayed, 'come on hit me.'
"Or maybe it's because of your dandy father that you grew such distrust for others." She goaded him with her eyes narrowed.
"You... You dare," he shouted and raised his hand to slap her.
'Good slap me. I can act pitiful in front of my darling King and have you put in your rightful place. In the dungeons,' Yelli thought internally with a small smirk.
"Deric! Stop!" a soft voice said from behind him.
His raised hands stopped, he slowly lowered it. 'Shit I was too impulsive, if I had hit her it would make her seem even less guilty,' Deric thought.
A small kid stood in front of him. His blond curly hair in disarray, his small face hid behind a familiar veil.
'It's him, it's the boy I met in the crowd,' Deric thought in glee.
"Don't you dare try to hurt Ms. Yelli? She is like my mother," the boy threatened. But his sweet, soft voice was not the least bit threatening.
Standing behind the veiled boy, Yelli stepped forward and held his shoulders. "Prince Erudite, please, let the prince hit me. I deserve to be hit. I should have noticed the traitor Julia in our midst's but… but I failed to," she cried.
'So he is the young prince Erudite.' Deric thought. He gazed deeply at him, trying to see his face behind his translucent veil.
"It's not your fault, Ms. Yelli," the young boy said. "And you," he pointed to the hostage prince. "You stay away from her. Otherwise I will hurt you."
"Greetings Young prince, I don't think we had the pleasure to meet. I am prince Deric from the kingdom Lafta," Deric said with a small smile and held his hand out.
"It's displeasure for me." Erudite softly mumbled.
But his keen ears caught his whispered. 'God, just a day here and I'm already hated by everyone,' Deric thought with a sigh.
