Chapitre 59: Glowing Eyes

"Disintegrate, you black dog of Rondanini!! Look upon yourself with horror and tear out your own throat!" Multiple voices resonated together as the final line was spoken. "Bakudo #9: Horin!" Six Shinigami dressed in their black uniforms had surrounded a hollow. It towered over them and almost over the buildings around them as well. "Bring it down!"

Multiple rope-like tendrils coated in lightning shot from their hands, finding their target and completely wrapping around the hollow. It let out an ear-wrenching scream as it fell, struggling to break free while trying to bite anything that got close. "Hado #4: Byakurai!" One of the Shinigami who was standing in front of the downed hollow raised his finger towards its head.

A bolt of lightning pierced its mask and head as its eyes widened and mouth was left a gap. Slowly the Hollow began to disappear, turning into a black mist. Everyone released their Bakudo's as they sighed. "These things have been showing up more and more." Hearing one of the Shinigami say something, another one spoke.

"True and I've heard from my friend in one of the other squads they seem to be getting bigger and stronger. Plus for some reason, the concentration of them in the west wing is increasing." One of the Shinigami laughed as they looked up. "Well, luckily the mortality rate is at its bare minimum. They may be strong but they're pretty stupid."

"Ya guess we're just unlucky that we have to deal with most side areas." With the street they were standing in evacuated, the group took this moment to breathe and relax. However, just as they did so, they heard a very familiar screech. "What the hell?"Jolting up, they all began to look around.

"There's another one? Didn't we check the perimeter before engaging?" The leader of the group double-checked and saw one of the Shinigami nods. "We did! I don't know where this one came from." The buildings were obstructing their view, so they could only see something that was in line with the street.

Suddenly they felt the earth shake beneath them as they looked at one another. "What the hell…" With zero warning, none of them could react as the sound of cracking infiltrated their ears.In the next instant, they felt their vision go dark as their brains temporarily lost contact with reality. It was a moment full of panic mixed with disorientation.

"Ugh…" It was pitch black, and all of them couldn't see a thing. "Crap! I think I broke my leg." There were multiple groans, and at least half were injured in some way. "Ok hold on. Gather around." The leader held out his hand and gathered his Reiatsu into a ball to produce light. All the members of their group went towards that light.

"Dammit, it's too dark we need to message someone for help." Surrounded by darkness on all sides, they could barely see a few meters ahead of them despite the light their leader made. "Does anyone have a Spirit Note?" One of the Shinigami raised his hand as he said. "Hold on, I'm right." He began rummaging through the pouch on his waist.

What he was looking for a special type of paper. It was similar to what Rei used as it provided a way to contact people of interest. While everyone was either on guard or trying to do first aid on their injuries, they heard the sound of teeth chattering. "Huh?" The sound of someone falling over caused everyone to look at a Shinigami who was shaking uncontrollably.

"What's wrong with you? Are you hurt?" The man didn't say anything and only shook as he slowly raised his arm and pointed ahead of him. All of them followed his hand and looked into the dark; however, they weren't expecting to see something looking back. No more than just something. Multiple glowing yellow eyes were staring at all of them.

By the second, more and more were appearing until they were completely surrounded. Some of the eyes were glaring at them from their height. However, others were much larger and towering over them like giants. "Oh god… This…" Immediately, all of them began shaking in fear just like the man from before.

"Ahh!" Finally, a scream is what triggered the movement. One of the Shinigami tried to pull out his sword; however, before he could, a hollow leaped towards him, biting off the top half of his body. "Dammit! Run!" No matter what they did in the end, it simply became a frenzy. And the screams slowly died out along with the flashes of Kido spells.

Meanwhile, the hole that had dropped them into this den was repaired by the natural Reishi in the air until everything went silent. A few weeks passed after that event, and Rei was currently in his room. He had secluded himself in his room and told everyone not to disturb him unless it was important. Like before, when he wanted to talk to Ryujin Jakka, he was meditating.

However, compared to the peaceful atmosphere in his room, what was happening inside of Ryujin Jakka Innerworld was entirely different. "Tch…" Running on the barren ground, Rei's eyes were locked on the sky. Raining down like arrows were pillars of fire directly aimed at him. In a burst of speed, Rei used a flash step.

His movements became a blur, and after images were left in his place. The pillars of fire impacted with the ground creating explosions of flames only adding to what he had to avoid. Every part of his body was singed, and even though this wasn't in the real world, his sweat was being evaporated before it could even drip.

Falling back a couple of meters, Rei had avoided any direct hits and took this moment to breathe. 'How long have i been doing this? I feel like it's been days and weeks now.' Suddenly dashing out from the flames coating the ground. Striking downwards at Rei as he rushed towards him, Rei blocked the strikes, and their two blades clashed.

"Are you at your limit?" Ryujin Jakka's manifestation looked at him with expressionless eyes, but the heat coming from around his body caused Rei's skin to feel as though it was on fire. "You sound like you want me to give up." Rei tried to push back, but Ryujin Jakka's manifestation swung his blade, sending Rei flying into the air and off of plateau.

Looking down as he tried to recover, Rei could see the sea of fire below him. Flipping himself right side up in the air, he regained his footing and began to slide on it as if he was on a hard surface. "Phew." Looking ahead of him, he saw Ryujin Jakka was already in the air standing in front of him. "Your ability to condense Reishi under your feet has improved. Before you couldn't even stand in the air for a few seconds."

"Appreciate the compliment… Though it looks like you knew it was possible to do this without me figuring it out myself." Rei tried to say that sarcastically but could barely pull it off, considering how worn out he was. "Teaching you too much at the beginning would overwhelm you. Besides this method of training is more effective."

Ryujin Jakka disappeared from Rei's field of vision in a single movement and a second later appeared behind him. Swinging from the side, Rei had to react quickly, moving his sword to block. The force from the attack sent him skating sideways before stopping. "I find that you learn faster during combat than simply practicing on your own. Being forced to multitask while fighting a skilled opponent increases productivity."

"I know around three people who immediately disagree." Holding his hand towards Ryujin, Jakka Rei spoke. "Clench, Tear, and Rip. Part the way and bear your fangs through the endless turns!" Ryujin Jakka's eyes changed slightly as they suddenly began to close in. Using his other freehand, Rei pointed at Ryujin Jakka's chest.

"Bakudo #61: Rikujokoro." With a spark of yellow light appearing at the tip of his finger, that light shot forward, creating six beams of light. Slamming into Ryujin Jakka's body in a ring-like formation were they frozen in place. "Casting a no incantation Bakudo spell while chanting Hado?" Rei gave off a smile as he finished his chant.

"Reflect the rage and hatred of the heavens. Hado #74: Misutikkujo!" Shooting out of his palm, the head of some kind of dog slowly grew larger to over four times Ryujin Jakka's size. Its eyes gleamed bright blue, and its entire body was partially transparent, with only blue fire being visible around its outline.

Opening its mouth as it charged towards Ryujin Jakka, it revealed its teeth and struck at full force. As soon as its mouth closed around Ryujin Jakka, it imploded into a bright blue light creating a shockwave that blew Rei black slightly. "Impressive." Ryujin Jakka gave off one final remark before the explosion completely blocked out Rei's vision.

The next moment he opened his eyes. He had come out of his mediation and was sitting in his room. Compared to how beaten up and exhausted he was before, his real body was fine. "I think I got a cramp." Rubbing the back of his neck Rei sighed. Standing up, Rei made his way out of his room. He briefly swept the entire building, sensing who was nearby.

'Looks like everyone except Shisui is still busy. Let's hope things didn't get much worse.' Making his way through the building, he walked to his office, where he found Shisui. Opening the doors, he looked inside and saw Shisui organizing stacks of papers with a slightly tired look on his face. "You look worse for wear."

Rei spoke up, first attracting Shisui's gaze. "Rei? Good, you're finally back. We were starting to debate if we should forcefully wake you up." Hearing that relief in his voice, Rei's expression changed. "Well, I was hoping things didn't get much worse but look like I jinxed myself. What's going on?"

Shisui opened his mouth but then closed it, calling him over to sit down. Rei obliged him and sat down at his desk as Shisui moved a few papers in front of him. "This would be all the good news. I'll tell you the bad myself." Frowning slightly, Rei began sifting through the papers reading each one carefully.

Some of it consisted of the positive growth of production and citizens in the Soul Society along with the addition of new Shinigami to their ranks. Following along with that, Rei found his guess from before was right. 'Kushina wasn't the only one who was brought here.' The list went on, but Shisui recognized two names. 'Hanzo of the Salamander and…' Rei looked up at Shisui in surprise. "Really?"

Shisui nodded in response to Rei's shock. "Due to the chance of them having their memories we have not recruited them yet but they're being monitored. That aside the Soul Society is growing faster than we thought it would so we can know many more there are like them hiding away."

It was good news overall, so Rei could finally relax when thinking about filling more captain positions. However, he would have to go through some effort getting them to cooperate. But he had time to deal with that later. Brushing past the rest of the information, Rei threw the papers on the desk.

The overall recruitment section was going over well which let Rei relax in that regard. "Alright, so what's the bad news?" Tensing up slightly he prepared to be informed of what exactly was going on. "As expected the number of hollows and potential victims has risen. The stress of us having to constantly seal off sections of the Soul Society isn't helping."

Rei continued to listen silently as Shisui continued. "Alongside that despite keeping injuries and more over fatality low fear is an increasing factor among the Squads sent out to deal with hollow sightings. Not to mention the immense increase of them appearing in the west side."

Shisui continued to go over everything one by one and as he did Rei's expression changed. Rotating in his seat he glanced out the large window in his office letting him oversee the Soul Society in its current state. 'It doesn't make sense… How can so many hollows be sighted yet we can't find a trace of them.'

Then Rei shook his head at the thought. 'Squads sent there are beginning to not report back… Should I seal off the western side? No were already dealing with the potential panic of these things appearing in the 'Paradise' I promised. I can't risk the possibility people will get hurt in the process.'

Despite how he acted in front of the crowds Rei's mind focused on the safety of the souls living here over all. He had already buffed security to an immense degree but over half of that focused on infiltration from the outside in. However these Hollows could appear from anywhere.

'I might have to conduct a search personally if this keeps up.'
