Chapitre 80: An Undesirable Outcome

Kan'na released a complex magic circle. This was one of her pre-made 'trump cards'. The circle expanded and blue electricity moved into the shape of a lamp. This lamp rose to the sky and thick lines of electricity formed a cage. This isolated Kan'na and Orothus.

The Lich questioned the idea, "This means you don't get help you know? Why would you even use this?"

Kan'na originally planned to use the spell to hold off Orothus for some additional time, however a text in the group chat made her change her plans.

Akiol: Vertigo is on route towards Orothus with his missing finger. Once he is reunited with his lost bone he will regain his original power. Good luck.

Kan'na couldn't have the already strong Lich grow stronger. So she forbid any outside interference. Orothus raised a hand and a wave of wailing souls forcefully rushed towards Kan'na.

She formed a magic barrier, then and additional two. The souls were stopped by the first, yet proceeded to eat through the magic barrier.

Kan'na frowned, the souls eating her spells was uncalled for. An idea sparked and Kan'na quickly formed a magic circle. This idea could be a turning point in battle if it worked.

The way magic works in A World's Legacy was easy to understand. Spells started by invoking a magic 'rune' of the desired element or form. Then a sorcerer would chant instructions for the rune to obey. These list of instructions required a strange pattern to them in order to work in the desired way. Once those two steps were completed the spell would fire off with a bit of MP.

The class 'Magic Author' was created in mind to be able to customize the 'chant' part of a spell. It still had its own set of rules to follow, albeit more lax than the other kinds of spells. Magic circles used a large amount of 'runes' for the instructions, while using special patterns to set the order of instructions.

For any player to learn this class they would have to study the runes like a language. Kan'na found this step easy since it was similar to what she created in the past world. She didn't have as much freedom, yet it was still allowed her to keep her style of fighting.

This time she attempted to make a 'pseudo' holy type spells. Holy spells didn't require any runes due to they being from the gods directed through priests. Only powerful holy spells required chants too.

Due to Kan'na not being a priest meant she couldn't use the 'power of gods' to make holy spells. So instead she used a mix of light and various other types to make something similar but not as affective.

She fired the spell towards the wave of wailing souls, as it hit the mass the wails increased in volume before distancing themselves away from the spell. Kan'na rated it five out of ten. If anything it could be used as warding, but not effective enough to dispel.

Orothus clapped his hands, the bones making large 'click clack' sounds. He nodded in approval, "To make an effective warding spell so quick. Truly you are a remarkable mage."

"I do believe it's called sorcerer now." Kan'na corrected.

"Ah yes, I suppose the inborn ability of magic has risen. Knowledge is slowly degrading. However your ability is innate, rather it was acquired through knowledge. Am I correct?"

Kan'na nodded, it was through her efforts in study that she learned how to do this. Both in-game and her previous world.

"Therefor it is safe to call you a mage, or perhaps Magus would fit? Regardless you have earned my praise, however I must end you here. Due to you interesting me I shall let you pass on peacefully, instead of becoming a slave."

More souls were sent flying in rapid succession. Kan'na left a brightly glowing sphere of light above her, the newly made warding spell for souls. Creating several attacking spells she fired them off.

Orothus sent more souls to clash midair with the spells, whilst sending more towards Kan'na.

Kan'na eyed her MP while fending off the attacking souls, it had always been her downfall since she had joined the vrmmorpg. No matter how hard she tried she couldn't keep her MP cost down. Quickly downing a MP regen potion she continued creating more spells.

It was at that moment Orothus' attention was drawn elsewhere. In the distance he saw his generals marching towards him. While this was appreciated it was the box Vertigo held that really drew his attention.

He felt his missing soul inside that box, his missing piece to perfection. Floating towards it he was stopped by the electric cage.

Now annoyed at the spell he attempted to forcefully dispel the cage. Only for it to remain strong. He turned to Kan'na, "Why is this cage stronger than the rest of your spells?"

Kan'na didn't answer, that was in par of willingly giving the enemy information. She wasn't about to do that.

Orothus noticed Kan'na refusing to answer and didn't pry further. He had to take a little more time to move the cage. He studied the flow of mana and attempted to adjust it. Yet he could not.

Following the flow he realized that all the mana was coming from the electric lamp. This was strange to him, normally spells required mana to come from a person. Unless there was some magic crystal fueling the spell he didn't know why the spell still stood.

He flew up to the lamp, making sure to send some extra souls towards Kan'na, and studied the lamp thoroughly. After a few minutes it came to him, the lamp was absorbing pure electricity from its surroundings.

While that sounded simple it was actually dangerous for a mage to do. The power of nature was never meant to be contained or controlled. One random occurrence and the whole spell could collapse and backfire. The Lich had to admit the girl had guts.

He then forced mana to solidify around the lamp. Blocking access to the natural electric element. The spell began to die out without a source, like a candle being snuffed out.

Eventually the whole cage faded and nothing prevented Orothus leaving. He flew over to Vertigo and descended to the ground. Vertigo dropped down to one knee and raised the box as an offering. Orothus opened the box and there lay his finger. It began to float and connected to Orothus.

A large wave of death energy swept the battlefield for miles. The undead grew stronger under their Lich's power. The generals strength had returned, the Lich's power had returned.

Kan'na had tried to stop it, yet the souls were not extinguishing. Even worse they seem to have gotten use to her warding spell. As they blocked any attempt at stopping Orothus.

Kan'na despaired, there wasn't much she could have done to stop this event from happening.

Jarvis was in an even worse situation. With the stronger undead Staff could no longer keep the undead at bay. Seeth's pits could only delay them shortly. The undead never tired so climbing out of the ground proved not an issue.

He couldn't do anything in this situation. So he called back his tames and used a teleport scroll, he feared Orothus might take the 'World Carrying Tortoise'. So it was safe to just retreat.

Kan'na didn't retreat just yet, she wanted to attempt one last thing.

Orothus recalled his souls and floated back to Kan'na. His power could be seen physically, the deathly aura surrounded him like a dark mist.

"It seems like your plan has failed... I suppose this is where I say goodbye." Orothus stated.

Kan'na released all her pre-made attack spells. All of which flew towards Orothus at different speeds. The Lich didn't raise a single finger, all the spells couldn't scratch his magic barrier.

The spells only server as a distraction. Kan'na released her magic circle. This circle floated above the two fighting spells users, it grew to a diameter of a mile. Several chains flew out of the circle and approached Orothus.

Kan'na had been crafting this spell ever since the electric cage fell. She had originally hoped to fire it off before Orothus regained his power, but the souls proved a lot more troublesome than anticipated.

The chains reached a certain point before splitting into smaller chains. These chains began to surround Orothus. The Lich watched in interest as the chains completely isolated him.

This was a sealing spell created by Kan'na. The chains all had different properties ranging from magic effectiveness reduction to space maneuver prevention. She had created this spell to completely seal Orothus.

Her MP reached near empty after firing the spell, her coat's additional affect came into play and her MP went back to full. She used this to form several magic circles just in case the seal didn't work.

The chains shook violently before exploding into small pieces. Orothus was once again impressed, "Even after regaining my original power you had made me expend some effort."

Kan'na fired off her magic circles, this was the obliteration cannon from before. This time with additional speed multipliers and size increasers. The beam shot towards Orothus at high speeds, the light made the battlefield turn a pale yellow.

The beam faded after a few seconds, the Lich still stood with an outstretched hand. Kan'na sighed, that was the last thing she had up her sleeve. She had failed.

Orothus flicked his sleeve, "That was the strongest one yet, I shall return the favor accordingly."

A large version of the previous souls appeared above the Lich. Pointing his finger at Kan'na the soul let out an ear piercing screech and sped towards Kan'na.

She didn't have enough MP to do anything. The giant souls collided with her and exploded, a large shockwave formed. As the magic residue dissipated there was nothing left.

Orothus nodded, "Now my soldiers! Destroy the town that dared hold my finger hostage!"

The undead soldiers roared and marched towards Goldlight. The rhythmic sounds of their steps would send any person into despair.

Somewhere on a hill an undead watched the scene, a grin on their face.
