"Hello? Did I miss anything?"
Adam looked at the little girl who was embracing him. She was hugging him tightly and did not seem like she was willing to let go of him anytime soon.
"Adam!" Lilith exclaimed as she raised her head.
She just woke up due to Eve's loud voice. Lilith walked towards Adam and Eve and just stood awkwardly. She wanted to embrace Adam like Eve was doing but she could not.
'When will you accept my emotions?'
That was what filled her mind as she looked at Adam who was looking at her. She was still lightheaded due to recently waking up so she did not register Eve's hug as anything that she should be wary of.
"Hey, Adam!" Brian said as he stood up. He, like Lilith, was asleep just moments ago.
When Brian heard Eve, he suddenly felt energy rising up from within. His groggy state was negated and he genuinely feels excited now that Adam was awake.
"Hey, Brian. Can you take this girl off of me?"
Adam replied to Brian's greeting and requested something of him. Adam didn't know what to do with the little girl who buried her face in his chest.
Brian looked at Eve before looking back at Adam and shook his head.
"Sorry, Adam. But let her be for a while. She's been waiting for you to wake up all this time." Brian said with a helpless smile on his face.
Brian scratched the back of his head and gave a light chuckle. Adam was confused because of Brian's words. His words implied something that Adam was not aware of.
"All this time? How long was I out?" Adam asked.
Everyone remained silent. Eve, Lilith, Brian. They did not say anything at all. The silence only made Adam's suspicion worse. But the silence was broken soon.
"It has been a month since you were in a coma." Tim said solemnly. He stood from his seat and sighed.
"A month!" Adam was shocked.
"Yes, and welcome back, Son."
Tim said as he opened both of his arms wide. He waited for Adam to give him a hug. Adam was troubled because the little girl was still hugging him tightly, he could not move his legs without disturbing the girl.
However.
Someone else rushed to Adam, who was still held by Eve and hugged him. It was Jenny, the mother who was worried sick about her son. She had a hard time the past month and was anxious about when Adam would wake up.
"Adam. Don't ever go by yourself. Never again!" She passionately said with tears flowing on her face.
"Yes, Mom."
Adam did not refute. It was his mistake and due to that mistake, he almost died.
His mistake was that he rushed to make the explosions happen. Due to his rush, he did not make sure that every Folinr he struck kicked the bucket.
'It was that Folinr.'
Adam was thinking about the Folinr with the slit neck. The wound he gave was not deep enough to incapacitate the Folinr and let it die due to blood loss.
'Perhaps I shouldn't have gone by myself too.'
Adam took a glance at Brian whose face was full of smiles. He looked at the people around him and smiled.
"Thank you. Mom. I'm back."
The past month was a mess within the Vault. The people no longer felt safe and a lot of them wanted to relocate. There were people who want to leave the Vault because of the raid.
However.
Once a couple of them made it to other communities, they learned of the world's peril once more.
"They have come." Tim was talking to Adam. He informed Adam of what was happening in the outside world.
And indeed, they have come. Monsters suddenly crawled out of the big holes in the ground. The monsters were not like the creatures that first emerged 10 years ago.
The monsters did not need any particular reason to attack anyone. They just attacked people.
And the weirdest thing is that when these monsters die, they don't leave behind a corpse or a physical body. They leave behind tiny gems and some other material like fur or bone.
As of yet, the gems have no value because the researches regarding the gems did not bear any fruit. The tiny gems were of extremely different cellular structure than any other mineral in the world.
"That's not the only thing." Tim continued explaining.
"Gift Levels."
Tim only said that and everyone in the room nodded, which includes Adam. There were currently 3 people within the room that had upgraded their Gift Level.
"My explosion is now stronger. I also have an easier time controlling it now." Tim explained his Gift's upgrade.
Jenny nodded her head and spoke.
"My Gift level also rose up. Madness fills my head every time I try activating my ability so I don't know what the upgrade entails."
She explained. Her ability was the ability of a berserker, so she could only give her upgrade a try when she goes berserk.
"My Gift also leveled up. However, I don't know what it does." Adam replied.
He indeed doesn't know about his Gift. What he knows was that he had the power to devour and absorb a trait from a creature but the only time it ever activated was when he ate the Folinr.
He was not aware of the demon, that was the devourer, resides in his body. Adam was not in control of his body at that time because he passed out.
"So." Adam said.
"How long is this girl going to stay here?"
He pointed to the girl that was burrowing her head in his chest. Adam felt awkward pointing out the fact, but he could no longer bear it. There was also another person in the room who couldn't bear the phenomenon either.
"No fair."
"What did you say, Lilith?" Adam looked at her.
Lilith looked away for a while to avoid Adam's gaze. Only to look again and stare begrudgingly at Eve, who was having the time of her life.
"Why do you always act like you don't know?" Lilith asked Adam seriously.
Adam looked at her and sighed. He knew that Lilith was interested in him as the opposite sex. Adam had no problem recognizing Lilith's affection but there was a fundamental problem.
'Too flat.' Adam had his preferences. He shook his head at this thought though.
'Not just that. I don't really like dating before a certain age. It feels weird because I am as old as hell."
"Good question. I got nothing to say." Adam replied.
He could not bother himself with love at the moment. The world was turning to shit so it was not in his list of things to prioritize. However, that statement of his hurt the young lady.
'I've been looking for you for so long. I can't give up now.'
"So. Eve, was it? Care to remove your hands now?" Adam politely asked as he remembered the little girl's name.
"No!" Eve replied just like a child.
Adam felt troubled. He could not deny that the child was too affectionate of him. He could only laugh at his memory of their interaction under the mango tree.
"Why are you suddenly being like this? You were quite cold when we met in the garden." Adam said. He did not specify which garden.
"I was not. I love you ever since!" She was talking about the time she was created, at the time they were in the Garden of Eden.
Adam did his best to recall the event in the garden. He remembered that this girl tried to pin the blame on him by putting the fruit she picked on his hand.
"You put that fruit in my hands so that I would get punished, didn't you?" Adam asked about her act. The mango fruit was still unripe in his memory.
"I did it because I was coaxed to!" Eve was talking about being tricked by the tree of knowledge.
Hearing her statement, Adam only laughed. He laughed at the pathetic attempt of lying, or so he thought.
"Haha. It's a good thing I'm the Director's grandson then. I was never punished, for your information." Adam replied.
Eve was confused about his sudden change of topic. She had the wrong idea that Adam was talking about their time in the Garden of Eden. Because of Adam's last statement, she remembered her atrocity when tried pinning the blame on Adam.
"Ugh. I was not talking about that." Eve exclaimed. She was flustered because she had the wrong idea.
'I still haven't confirmed if this is really Adam!'
She remembered just now. She asked all about Adam from his parents but she could never confirm from their words. The only way to gain that confirmation was by the person himself.
"Haha. Trying to act innocent now, young lady?"
Adam laughed as he said. He was having fun with the exchange of words. Someone did not like their fun though.
'Eve, I didn't know you were a competitor.' Lilith thought to herself.
'Wait a minute.' She found that things were weird. She never found Eve's existence within the Vault before so why was she so attached to Adam?
"Adam! It's me! Eve! From the Garden of Eden!" Eve excitedly said. Her frustration from earlier was nowhere to be found.
'I knew it!'
'Eve?'
Two thoughts intertwined after Eve's declaration.
