Rain.
Outside the building was a very devastating rain. It was a good thing the party was able to find shelter within the ragged building in due time. The heavy rain brought the temperature down even further that it was basically freezing outside.
And indeed, hail was starting to form within the eye of the storm. It was getting colder by the minute and the noise of the very loud rain made it worse for the weary people taking refuge within an abandoned building.
There was no electricity, that meant there was no light, and that also meant there was no warmth within the walls of the building. The fire pit within a barrel was surrounded by people who were having a hard time sleeping.
One certain boy was having it harder than the rest.
'Holy crap. It's as cold as the northern lands.' Brian complained in his mind.
He was so near the barrel that he was practically hugging it now. That was to be expected, Brian did not have any clothing with him. He was only wearing a single piece of loincloth to cover his genitals.
He did have a coat of leather, a very crude one, but he left it at his cave in the Soileward Estate's forest. Plus, he didn't expect a sudden change in weather like this.
In his first year of living in the forest, he was quite surprised to see how weak the animals residing in it were. He saw animals that resembled some of the animals from his home world.
'That's a bunny? It looks like one but it doesn't have the horn.'
'A stallion that doesn't charge at you with murderous intent. Surprising.'
'Is that a human? Yes! A human! But why does he have no mana?'
Those were his thoughts. The last one was when he saw Adam trying to scare the albino marten.
Remembering that scene where he got beaten up by a kid with a stick. His cold body shuddered even more.
'That was shameful. As a 30 year old adventurer, I shouldn't have grown complacent due to the ease of food acquisition in that forest.'
And now Brian turns to look at Adam who was snuggled in Tim's jacket. It was too big for him alone, that if Brian were to use it with him, it would be just enough. However, Brian an had aversion towards Adam.
Because he felt a weird power emanate from Adam earlier in the vehicle. And the screams he heard within his state of unconsciousness were screams that a five-year-old shouldn't experience.
Also, his main reason for actually avoiding Adam was due to being ashamed of himself. Still, Brian was cold and he needed to cover himself.
'Maybe I can talk to him?'
Brian decided to throw his pride down the gutter. He was in pretty bad shape and staying stuck up didn't help him one bit. Brian scooched towards Adam.
Adam saw him slowly getting near.
"What are you doing?"
'I got caught.' Brian thought to himself.
"Can you share that with me?" He pointed towards the jacket that was covering Adam from head to toe.
"Sure! Come on in." Adam's innocence was beaming.
They were cuddled together in one jacket. If one of them was a girl, this would look very cute. However, they were both boys, so it only looks a bit cute.
"Say. What's your name?" Brian asked Adam.
From their encounter earlier, Adam only beat Brian up without even saying his name. This made Briam even the more irritated earlier.
"My name is Adam!" Adam said excitedly.
"Adam Soileward."
"Nice name kid. Say, why's you beat me up earlier?" Brian asked.
Brian was now comfortable snuggling inside the jacket with Adam, turning him talkative. Adam, being a child, just answered his questions with innocence in his eyes.
"Because you looked like you were invading my house. That forest was ours."
"Oh? Wow, that means you're rich then?" Brian asked in shock.
"Since you own a forest in your backyard and all."
"Yea! I love my home." Adam replied energetically.
After remembering the destruction of their house, Adam went silent. However, the clueless Brian who was passed out since earlier did not know of the events that transpired.
"So where are we? I don't think this is your house." Brian said as he looked at the depressing faces of the people inside the building.
'What exactly happened while I fainted?'
While he was thinking that, the silent Adam opened his mouth.
"It's gone."
"Excuse me?" Brian retorted.
"Our house is gone." Adam said with tears suddenly flowing from his eyes.
"The tornado destroyed, hic, the house." Adam was audibly sobbing.
The events that happened today are traumatic to a child. However, due to the pain from the body reconstruction and the events that happened right after, Adam didn't have the time to collect himself.
Now that he was able to recall the things that happened, Adam cried like a child, since he is a child. However, even if his alter-ego was here, he still would.
The original Adam has lost his home plenty of times throughout his numerous lives is pretty sentimental whenever it comes to family. It could be said that Adam should be used to it now, however every time Adam reincarnates, he is as mindless as a child due to the birth process. This in turn would make him a child that would look towards family. As Adam grows up and remembers who he was, he would get more and more attached to his family and home.
Brian didn't know what to do. But he had to do something. So he just snuggled ever so closely to Adam.
'What a cute sight!' Tim thought to himself.
Seeing this scene, he couldn't help but take a picture with his watch. Adam was sobbing but there was another child staying together with him.
'But still, who is that kid?' Tim asked no one in particular.
The rampaging rain outside made it difficult to sleep. No, that isn't it. No one was sleepy enough in the party yet. The time still says it is only around 18:30 so it was pretty early for anyone to fall asleep.
'That rain is super annoying.'
Everyone had the same thought. However, the rain got worse. The sound of the wind was getting stronger and stronger. Plus they could hear the tappings on the walls. It was a hail storm!
The uncomfortable temperature and the annoying sound made it impossible to fall asleep. Everyone couldn't fall asleep.
Looking around. The people in the building also huddled together closely, and the people that were alone shivered in the dark corners of the building. All alone and very much cold.
After a few hours of the storm, things became peaceful. This was a chance to get some sleep.
Everyone fell asleep except Tim. He kept watch while being half-asleep, a habbit he got used to during his time in the service.
As 3 hours passed, the world was getting brighter and brighter. Warmth filled the atmosphere, the Sun has come!
'It really is weird. My watch is saying it's still 10 pm.' Tim thought in his mind.
"This doesn't make any sense at all." He thought aloud and his mouth was twitching.
However much he denies it, the rising sun was there to crush any of his doubts about the current events.
Tim woke everyone up but before he did, he ate some meat from the bag. After everyone except the children were up from their slumber, they all gathered around the fire pit and discussed.
"Dear, things are going straight to hell in a handbasket." Tim said to his wife Jenny.
"I know. But what is happening? Why did this suddenly happen?" Jenny replied.
The cataclysmic events that transpired yesterday(?) were biblical. It might be yesterday but the time says otherwise. The sudden visions that showed itself, the gigantic holes that showed up within the country, and the massive storms. Even until now, it was still raining but it was pleasant instead of being annoying.
"Have you ever read the bible?" Ivan interjected.
Ivan was talking while making hand symbols. He was talking to everyone and that includes his wife. After saying that, Tim and Jenny looked at him with curiosity in their eyes.
"These events are written in the bible." Ivan declared.
His hands were visibly shaking. After thinking about things for a while, and knowing what happens next made him really scared.
"The day our lord and saviour comes back, will be the day of reckoning." Ivan continued.
"He has come to judge the living and the dead. But not without suffering. We are going to die!"
Ivan has gone hysterical. Due to this, Tim stopped him from saying anything more and held him by the shoulder.
"Calm down man. Collect your thoughts." Tim reassured Ivan.
The usually cool-headed Ivan lost his cool. The fear has finally gotten into him now that things were calming down. After being reassured, Ivan akso calmed down.
"So, what happens in what you read?" Tim asked Ivan to continue.
"I don't remember much, but the four horsemen of the apocalypse is bound to come after the cataclysm." Ivan stated these words with a serious face.
"The first horseman, the white rider, is said to be the horseman of conquest. War is bound to come."He continued.
"The second horseman, the red rider, is said to be the horseman of war. However this interpretation is incomplete or so the studies say. He is to be the symbolism for civil war that brings about needless bloodshed."
"The third horseman, the black rider, is said to be a merchant carrying food. However he takes all of the food away and brings about a famine."
"Lastly, the fourth horseman. Riding an ashen horse, with pallid green tinge, is said to be Death himself where Hades follows."
After listening to Ivan's words, Tim and Jenny were silent. Of course, Ivan's wife is still silent since she's a mute.
"So after the devastation of the world suddenly changing, the things the four horsemen represent will happen?" Tim broke the momentary silence.
"Yes."
There was silence once more. But this time, Tim stood from his place and woke the children up.
"It's time we head out. Let's move." Tim declared to everyone.
Tim hurriedly packed his stuff and got ready to continue traveling. After doing so, he held the still sleepy Adam in his arms.
'I can never get used to this sudden change in weight' Tim's thoughts about the weight changes as he carried Adam.
Instead of staying fearful of what's to come, Tim chose to keep everyone on the move. If those things were true, then staying stationary in an unsafe area would make it worse.
Ivan nodded his head then turned to his wife. He informed her of their plan of action. She nodded her head slightly and followed behind Ivan quietly.
The children were fed some food, some would say it's breakfast, however it was supposed to be nearing midnight. The adults on the other hand, did not eat anything.
And so everyone continued their journey towards the nearest subway station.
