Claire seemed relieved that was an activity that wouldn't take all day. If Alex had to guess, she didn't want to go out at all but didn't have the heart to let the kid down because of how little time she was able to spend with him.
"Of course we can. And when we get home we can bake cookies together, okay?"
Ethan was pleased. "Cool! What kind of cookies?"
"I was thinking pumpkin chocolate chip. You've never had a pumpkin cookie before, have you?"
"Nope. Are they good?"
"I think they are," Claire said with a small shrug of the shoulder that wasn't squished up against Alex's. She appeared to have no intention of moving any time soon and he was perfectly fine with that.
He frowned. "They aren't like pumpkin pie, are they?"
"I promise the texture is nothing like pumpkin pie. You'll see that pumpkin can be delicious if utilized correctly. Don't you worry!"
