Tim didn't hear back from the private investigator until the day of the soiree. Up until that point he only saw Stephanie's daughter at dinner and for a couple of hours in the evening when everyone sat around chatting.
He still wasn't entirely sure what to make of her but could tell that she was very closed off. If what her boyfriend hinted at was true, he couldn't even blame her for it.
When his phone rang, he barked into it immediately. "Tell me what you found."
"I didn't find much," the PI said apologetically. "Alex Jorgensen from Acton, Massachusetts doesn't exist. The only Jorgensens in that town are a man named Ray, his wife Heather, and their three young children. The older generation there knew Ray's father Frank as well but that's it. Whoever you met is using an alias.
