Chapitre 3: [Major] First Duel

"Let's duel dad!" Isaac exclaimed, loading up his duel disk and drawing 5 cards.

"Of course son." Zack responded, following Isaac's example.

"I'm the birthday boy, me first!"

[Isaac Fortis: 4000/ Zack Fortis: 4000]

"Alright dad, first things first I'll summon my <Red-Eyes Baby Dragon> in defense mode!"

[Red-Eyes Baby Dragon/ Effect Monster/ 1200/ 700]

"Oh?"

"Next I'll set a face down, and end my turn!"

[Isaac Fortis: 4000/ Zack Fortis: 4000]

"Draw!"

"Alright son, I won't be going easy on you. I'll first activate <Pot of Greed>. This spell card allows me to draw two cards... not that anyone knows that."

[Pot of Greed/ Normal Spell]

"Dad that's too good of a card! They should ban it!"

"Your deck has one too, son..."

"Ugh..."

"Anyways, I'll next activate the spell card, <Gem-Knight Fusion>! This allows me to fuse two Gem-Knight monsters in my hand into a new beast!"

[Gem-Knight Fusion/ Normal Spell]

"I choose <Gem-Knight Garnet> and <Gem-Knight Obsidian> to form: <Gem-Knight Ruby>!"

[Gem-Knight Garnet/ Normal Monster/ 1900/ 0] + [Gem-Knight Obsidian/ Effect Monster/ 1500/ 1200]:

[Gem-Knight Ruby/ Fusion Effect Monster/ 2500/ 1300]

"Rah!" Ruby roared.

"Whaaa, why are you summoning such a strong monster on your first turn, dad?!" Isaac complained.

"He'll be even stronger after this, son: since <Gem-knight Obsidian> was sent to the graveyard via card effect, I can use his ability! It allows me to resurrect a normal monster from the grave!"

"I haven't sent any of your monsters to the grave, old geezer..."

"Oh, but I did. I used <Gem-knight Garnet> as a fusion material! He is who I am resurrecting!"

[Gem-Knight Garnet/ Normal Monster/ 1900/ 0]

Three holograms cluttered the Fortis family's backyard, two glittering knights and a by dragon, fiercely standing off... soon to be two.

"Finally I use my <Gem-Knight Ruby>'s ability! By sacrificing one "Gem-" monster, Ruby will gain that very same monster's attack points! I sacrifice <Gem-knight Garnet>!" Zack exclaimed.

[Gem-Knight Ruby/ Fusion Effect Monster/ 4400/ 1300]

"Ehh?! 4400 attack? Luckily I am hiding behind my dragon..."

"Son... <Gem-Knight Ruby> does piercing damage!"

"Piercing damage? You mean it can damage me even though my monster is in defense mode?!"

"Yep! Battle phase, <Gem-Knight Ruby> attack his dragon!"

(A/N: Normally monsters in defense mode will protect your life points, while monsters in attack mode will leave you vulnerable, piercing changes that by allowing defense points to be used in damage calculation.

Damage calculation: Phase of battle where highest attack points defeats lowest, and the difference is dealt to your life points as damaged. Damage calculation doesn't take place with a defense mode monster, unless piercing.)

[Gem-Knight Ruby: 4400 - Red-Eyes Baby Dragon: 700]

After flinching from the fake explosion and taking life point damage, Isaac reacts.

"Thankfully, my <Red-Eyes Baby Dragon> has an effect! When it is destroyed by battle, I can summon a Red-Eyes monster from my deck! I choose the almighty, <Red-Eyes Black Dragon>!"

[Red-Eyes Black Dragon/ Normal Monster/ 2400/ 2000]

"The <Red-Eyes Baby Dragon> attaches itself to the monster it summons as an equip spell as well! Giving my Red-Eyes a boost of 300 attack points"

[Red-Eyes Black Dragon/ Normal Monster/ 2700/ 2000]

"Nice move son... for now I'll set down two cards face down and end my turn. Since my turn is over, Ruby's attack points go back to 2500."

[Gem-Knight Ruby/ Fusion Effect Monster/ 2500/ 1300]

[Isaac Fortis: 300/ Zack Fortis: 4000]

"Alright dad, I draw!"

"First, I'll activate <Cards of the Red Stone>! By discarding on level 7 Red-Eyes, I can draw two cards! I discard a <Red-Eyes Black Dragon>!"

[Cards of Red Stone/ Normal Spell]

"It also let's me send another level 7 Red-Eyes from my deck to the graveyard! I choose another <Red-Eyes Black Dragon>!"

"But what will you do with those new cards of yours, son?"

"Win! Duh!"

"I now activate my facedown card, <Red-Eyes Spirit>! This allows me to special summon a Red-Eyes monster from my grave! I choose one of the <Red-Eyes Black Dragon>s!

[Red-Eyes Spirit/ Normal Trap]

[Red-Eyes Black Dragon/ Normal Monster/ 2400/ 2000]

"Now I activate <Heavy Storm>! This will destroy all spell and traps on the field, including the <Red-Eyes Baby Dragon> equipped to my original Red-Eyes!"

"There goes trap hole and mirror force..." Zack mumbled.

"Now that <Red-Eyes Baby Dragon> was destroyed, <Red-Eyes Black Dragon>'s attack goes back to 2400! However, Baby Dragon's effect activates!"

[Red-Eyes Black Dragon/ Normal Monster/ 2400/ 2000]

"With <Red-Eyes Baby Dragon>'s effect, whenever it is destroyed while equipped to a monster, I can add any level 1 dragon monster to my hand! I choose <The Black Stone of Legend>!"

"Hoh... I see where you're going with this son, but none of the monsters in your deck have more than the 2500 attack of my Ruby!"

"Heh, just you wait dad. I normal summon <The Black Stone of Legend>!"

[The Black Stone of Legend/ Effect Monster/ 0/ 0]

"I activate <The Black Stone of Legend>'s effect! By tributing it, I can special summon a Red-Eyes monster from my deck!"

'It's over this turn! A competitive player from my world is just on a different level from anime-tier duelists!' Isaac thought.

"I choose... the <Red-Eyes Black Flare Dragon>!"

[Red-Eyes Black Flare Dragon/ Effect Monster/ 2400/ 2000]

"It's over dad!"

"None of your monsters can beat my <Gem-Knight Ruby> how is it over?" Zack asked, genuinely confused.

"Because, dad, I have the field spell card, <Mountain>! All my dragons now gain 200 attack and defense points!"

[Red-Eyes Black Dragon/ Normal Monster/ 2600/ 2200]

[Red-Eyes Black Dragon/ Normal Monster/ 2600/ 2200]

[Red-Eyes Black Flare Dragon/ Effect Monster/ 2600/ 2200]

"All of my monsters attack, leaving you and your <Gem-Knight Ruby> left for dead!"

"Inferni Fire Blasts!"

[Isaac Fortis: 300/ Zack Fortis: 0]

"Good game, son."
