(After fighting the Equalists)
"What are we going to do?" Korra asked.
Gon looked at her with an unsure face. He could not attack the Equalists at all because they would not understand his reasons. If he said, Amon sent people after him, who would believe him? He had just helped the non-benders and did not want to lose their trust.
"Let us just go to bed," Gon said.
"Bu-" Korra said.
"That is all we can do now," Gon said, "It was nice meeting you, Bolin."
Gon and Korra quickly went back to the Air bending temples. They were trying to hide the fact that Korra was a pro bender from Tenzin.
Korra did not want to get in trouble while Gon just wanted to uphold his promise.
Once Korra and Gon passed through the gates, they saw a tired Tenzin waiting for them.
Korra looked awkwardly at the Tenzin and said, "I am sorry that I disobeyed you, but pro-bending has helped me. I managed to move like the wind when fighting."
Korra looked at Tenzin, expecting him to scold her, but he just smiled.
"I know you did. I watched your match, and it was great," Tenzin said, "Perhaps my teachings were too harsh. Now let us all go to bed."
"Okay," Korra said, smiling.
(A day later)
"Wake up, Korra," Gon said, "Tenzin wants to see your second try at the gates. Hopefully, it won't be as bad as last time."
"Haha, so funny," Korra said sarcastically, "I am up."
Korra and Gon quickly came out of the living quarters to see Tenzin and his family waiting for them.
"Ready for a second try, Korra?" Tenzin asked.
After seeing her pro-bending match, Tenzin had high expectations for her. The start of the game had been rocky, but after a while, Korra started to dominate. She weaved through all of her opponent's attacks and had soon won the game. Tenzin hoped she would do the same for the gates.
"Yeah," Korra said.
Korra quickly started to weave through the gates. She dodged the first gate and the second and the third and was soon out of there.
"How did you do that?" Gon asked, "Yesterday, you were failing and now..."
Korra looked at him and started to laugh.
"One word, pro-bending," Korra said, "I will meet up with Mako and Bolin, do you want to come?"
"No, I have something to do," Gon said.
"What is it?" Korra asked.
"That is a secret," Gon said.
Korra huffed and left before she could become angrier.
Gon decided to go back to the Equalists rally to see what they were doing.
As he walked there, he thought, "Why do I care so much about them? Why does it disturb me?"
The more he thought about it, the more he remembered the past Gon that lay there sick and near death, the boy who got hated by his own family because he had no power. The past Gon had suffered, and that had caused him to suffer because he was now Gon. He did not want anyone like his past self to suffer but did not wish for benders to suffer.
The equalists wanted to eradicate bending, and he could not allow that. They were radicals. He understood their perspective of equality, but the equality they wished for could get created in many ways.
Gon's idea of equality was training non-benders to the point that they don't need protection. Benders took years to master their elements. It would take the same time for non-benders to master martial arts.
Gon sighed and continued on his way, still in his thoughts. He overlooked Asami on the other side of the street, waving at him.
"Hey," Asami shouted.
Gon looked up, finally noticing her.
"Hey, Asami," Gon said awkwardly.
"You missed our date yesterday," Asami growled.
Asami was very angry. She had dressed up and everything for the date, and he had not shown. It was also awkward seeing all the waiters pity her.
"Sorry, I was distracted," Gon said, "How about I make it up. When do you want to go?"
"How about now?" Asami said.
"Okay," Gon said, "Where to?"
He wanted to leave his thoughts for a few hours and relax.
"There is this noodle place nearby, follow me," Asami said.
They soon got there and started to eat.
"What were you doing that you could not go on our date," Asami questioned.
"I was at the equalists rally," Gon said.
"Are you a non-bender like me?" Asami asked.
"Nope. I am a bender, alright," Gon said.
Asami was bewildered by this, she had heard of benders going to equalist rallies and beating them up for their beliefs. She could not believe that Gon was one of them.
Gon seeing her face decided to say, "Don't worry, I did not attack them. I just wanted to see what their views are, and frankly, I don't believe in them. They are radicals. I don't understand why people would join them."
"I don't believe in them, too, but you don't get to judge!!!" Asami shouted with tears rushing through her eyes, "All our lives we get seen as trash, even I didn't have it great. A bender killed my mom!!!"
"I am sorry that your mom got killed by a bender," Gon said as he hugged Asami, "But don't think for one second that I don't understand what it feels like to be a non-bender!!!"
"How could you understand!!!" Asami shouted.
"My dad thought I was a non-bender and so he decided to abuse me, destroy me mentally and make me feel worthless," Gon said, causing Asami to be surprised.
"How could he think that?" Asami asked.
"Because I was for a while," Gon said, "I had a special power, causing my bending to get unclocked later on."
"Just because there are some bad seeds does not mean we should blame everyone," Gon said.
Asami did not know what had taken over her, but after seeing Gon's sad face, she moved in and kissed him.
"Bye," Asami smiled as she left the date.
Gon was still in a daze. It was the first time he had kissed someone before. He had gotten locked up for most of his life and hadn't been able to go on a date.
Gon quickly left his dazed self behind and decided to go on his way to the White lotus rally. As he went, he saw a tired Korra and Mako running towards him. They looked scared.
"He Korra, what's up," Gon asked.
"The Equalists have taken Bolin," Korra said.
