"By the way did I tell you that I'm expecting a Grandchild in December?"
Deb Oh knew what her uncle was doing, he was trying to divert the heavy conversation to something lighter.
"Really? Wow! Congratulations, Uncle! You are going to have 2 grand children!"
Putting on a cheerful spirit, Deb Oh celebrated with her uncle over the phone, the last 4 months had been hard on her with the pandemic virus killing people in the country everyone feared for their lives which made every moment she could spend with her uncle more precious than ever.
"I don't want her to look like the other side of the family! Her other grandfather is an ugly man, imagine if Bia turns out to be a carbon copy of the man! I've been praying ever since I heard the news from my wife!"
"Okay? So, if she looks like your in-law what's so wrong about that?! Having a healthy baby even if she may not be pretty is better than having a deformed child or a disabled child! I take care of those kids and I feel the pain their parent go through, seeing nursing staff coming in to care for them and being powerless to take care of their child! Please for the love of God don't talk like that!"
Deb Oh didn't know what possessed her to speak to her uncle in such fashion, he was the only one she felt the closest to and spoke with the most. His flippant comment raised the ire within her, making the resentment that was buried in the dark recess of her mind to spring forth unrestrained.
