"You are not from here are you?" Erika asked him as he looked at the bright blue scenery above him.
"What made you think about that?" Light answered and temporarily removed his gaze on the sky to look at her.
"Though blurry, I have memories of people like you- different hair color and eyes- and words of something that I can recollect as mission from above." Erika said and looked at the green fields. Light wasn't really shocked to know that Erika had been a prospect already because he knew that she was also having a hard time dealing with this world and almost every word she said were of some degree- an aberration to herself.
"We are called chosens." Light said and he adjusted his position because the grasses had been poking his back as he leaned on the green grass below him. "We were given missions to save people."
"How does that work?" Erika asked, trying to sound uninterested even if her eyes told otherwise.
"If they permit the saving, we will save them and we will acquire their cuts and as our monitoring, we look at the scars. Not even one mission is easy. It always involved painful maladies."
"Met a person with DID? BPD?" Erika asked.
"Yeah. That's just some of them. I met someone who was a pathological liar and introverted- though that isn't a malady" Light said.
"Regardless. Jeez. If you are still hanging out here because you think you can save me, don't even bother. Someone needs you more than I need you." Erika said and turned his back from him "I guess people like you don't know the word priority because many people are suffering at this moment."
"Don't say that."
"Once I made up my mind, there's no turning back. This isn't about me though, please continue." Erika chuckled and faced him again.
Light took out his nearly black necklace and showed it to her who seemed to be enchanted by its beauty. "Once this necklace turns black, it'll be scary for me because I'd be replaced by another chosen and I'd be sent back to where I came from. If my chosen's necklace does, I'll be-"
Light's vision started to become blurry again because he was trying so hard not to think about the possibilities that can occur as he progressed with the mission he was tasked with- but he knew that keeping it inside him will only do him no good. He knew he needed to let it out so he'll feel okay. "I'll disappear- and my disappearance will suffice and compensate for her happiness. She will forget about me and the entire mission."
"You must really love her for you to cry your eyes out. You know life is comprised of stupid things, but you shouldn't stress yourself to things that are trivial. If that was how it's supposed to be, then don't try to fight it. Jeez. You are nothing compared to the Gods above. If your life will end there and then, you should make the most of your life while you still can" Erika said. "Every human was given a mission before they were born ya know? You are lucky to have figured it out already while you are still young! Some people struggle to figure out what they are here for."
"But my future is already decided for me. I'm good as dead" Light leaned on his arms as he hugged himself and he hid his sad face from Erika.
"Gosh. You must be very stupid." Erika said and Light looked at her. She approached him and held his wrists and she led it to his chest "don't you know that as long as this organ is beating, you are still alive? Don't waste your time contemplating about your death while you are still bound with time."
"I know I am being selfish but…" Erika let go of his right hand. "I never chose this path."
"You sure didn't but this path led you to be with the person you are crying for and if it is your duty to save her and make her smile and be happy, shouldn't you be joyful about that?" Erika asked him. "You are aware about your time. Some people, no- most people aren't. you can still make her feel happy even if you'll be gone soon. In every relationship, there will always be someone who gets hurt for the sake of the happiness of the other person."
Light looked at her and smiled. "Do you know that you are a great person, Erika?"
"Shut up. I don't need your opinion." Erika sulked.
"Jeez, you speak like that but your eyes keep telling me that you are caring." Light teased and combed his hair with his fingers.
"Maybe I do, Maybe I don't." Erika said and chuckled at herself. Her sweet disguise had been uncovered.
"Say, Erika, are you an angel?" Light asked her. She had been showing all her bad sides to Light ever since they first met but Light can read her. There was still a little humanity left in her eyes.
"Why would you ask me that?" Erika asked and sighed because she had concluded that Light was stupid for asking inane question.
"Because…. Because?"
"I try to become one. And every one of the humans you see are angels too- because at some point in their lives, no matter how cruel or unpleasant their personalities were, they still served as an angel to some people who are in need. So, the person who should be asking that question is me. However, I do believe that angels are giving everyone happiness. I'm glad that you told these to a stranger, and I hope I helped you with that fear of yours."
Erika's eyes were sad but the beauty of everything on that place seemed different to her sufferings. She was glad that she was able to help but she was mad at herself for violating her proverb : 'you cannot give others what you don't have' and that was probably why she held her fist so tight so she could restrain herself from being too comfortable to the human who just told her about himself.
