Fallon was normally a silent person but when it comes to class, she dominates recitation. However, she don't seem like herself for some reasons because she hadn't even said a single word. She's still hugging the present she used to hide and decided to wear it. It was her first time knitting a scarf and she found out that it was fun yet tedious. She originally planned to give it to someone but that someone seemed happy with what he was currently wearing- a black one - and it looked good on him. For the past few weeks, her seatmate had been annoying her- she could sense competition at any time of the day and just the sight of him annoyed her to a great extent. Light seemed so far from her now with the new kid and Nick blocking her view and that agitated her.
The new kid had been reciting and reciting more than her and that threatened her. Joy was still the strongest threat to her since she's always miserably defeated every time she tried to challenge her- and what makes her more mad is that Joy never even tried. She doesn't even treat her as a worthy rival because she heard that she never reviews and never takes notes- even when breaktime, when Fallon was studying, their circle was on the rooftop eating happily. Nick has been a threat to her but that person really doesn't care but the results of the mock test yesterday had made her sense that he's a genius if he only tried to take things seriously.
'It's so soft.' she thought to herself as she touched the fabric of her scarf. She had given everything she'd got when she knitted it to the point that there was nothing left for herself.
As usual, Joy was paying attention to the class with Mari and Nathan while Light and Nick were staring at the ceiling. Light has been like that in all the classes and when Joy asked him,
"Hey, how do you do that? You don't even pay attention to class!"
"I have already read them and I've memorized everything so what's the point?"
Joy sat comfortably on her chair and looked at Fallon who was looking at Light. She knew that Fallon looks at Light in a special way, but what can she do? She needed to be with him because of their mission.
' Why did he choose me?' she asked herself. That question had been making her restless because she can't have an answer to that. Whenever she tried asking Light, he would just intimidate her with a cold, scary stare. It was effective though, because she would immediately back off. She looked at Light and realized that he was also looking her as he leaned on his table. Joy felt her cheeks burning - an indication of her intense blushing which would be too visible because of her pale, white skin- but Light was also blushing. Joy knew that it was because of the freezing coldness- ['You know, it can make you have rosy cheeks'] and with that thinking, she did not avert her gaze from him.
All of a sudden, all the people in that very same spot vanished as they locked eyes with each other. It was a miraculous moment because Joy saw the soft side of Light as he looked at her warmly. His golden eyes seemed like it was shining as it looked at her - she can hear the background noises fade as her heart's beating intensified with the very look of his being. He was perfect - even more perfect than perfect. He was the only one that can replace the glory of the sun and the moon because the world could have light with just his presence - he was the epitome of dreams - the kind that will make one refuse to wake up. He was the song that will stay with her forever--the poem that spelled her- the memory of luminance that will forever cheer her up.
Light approached her and touched her cheek. He erased the tears and the sadness away from her and washed her with his presence-- and his touch that rippled through her skin had awoken her. Lights of different colors had started to float around the-there were pinks- blues- reds- yellows - every beautiful color that they could imagine were there- every feeling was conveyed through the colors. Light smiled at her. It was a smile that she longed to see- a smile that was nostalgic to her. Had she seen that smile before? She wasn't sure. But she was certain that it was a smile she loved and missed. She felt like she had searched for that smile all her life and now- it was in front of her- and she could never let that moment pass.
"Light, I..."
______
"Does the two of you need to book a hotel or something?" Mr Koshi asked. He was their Humanities teacher and was known to be very strict. The two of them flinched and Light removed his hands from her blushing face. Joy was reluctant to let him go but she did not have the choice. Mr Koshi was about to speak again but the bell rang loudly and interrupted her. Nick came to the rescue and clapped hard to show how happy be was that the lecture was over and Nathan followed. The whole class just walked away towards the library and Mr Koshi just went away while screaming [Ah, youth this days!].
However, Fallon stood up and ran away. Her dark aura had been very visible to Light and he subconsciously ran to her but Joy's presence made him stop. She was also running to get to her and he decided that letting Joy take over would be for the best.
Joy ran to get to her as she headed towards the comfort room of their school. She washed her face to erase the tears that had streamed her face. She promised herself not to cry anymore because no one cares. No one would even notice that she had ran away and cried her eyes out in a dirty CR.
"I hate myself!" She screamed and pulled blade from her pocket. She was to cut herself again because the pain inside her was so unbearable so she will inflict it to another part of her body. She was ready to cut herself but Joy came dashing from the door and took away the blade from her. Joy cut her arm as she took the blade and threw it away. Fallon was so agitated every time she sees Joy. She's an eyesore to her - a living trophy of all the times she had been second- the proof of her loses- a statement - an evidence that she is useless even if she tried hard. "Why are you here?"
Joy looked at her with a concerned eye and hoped that she could feel her sympathy. Her gaze suddenly dropped to her arms- they are full of scars and wounds- some new- and some are healing. Fallon felt her gaze drop towards her cuts and she immediately hid them like she was ashamed of them.
"Why are you hiding them?" Joy asked her and approached her. Fallon glared at her and took a fighting stand- she was ready to strike any time. Joy tucked her sleeves and it revealed her wrists with Maria's cuts. They are slowly healing but they are getting there. Fallon was shocked to see them and dropped her stance. She did not know that she was also suffering. She did not know that she had been fighting for her life all this time. It's what deep sadness was about--fighting for the life. "They are your battle scars. Don't be ashamed of them."
Fallon recognized something different from Joy. Was she showing her her alter ego- her personality that was hiding behind her wide smiles that she kept showing people? Was her impressions on her got debunked and rebutted? She wasn't sure anymore.
" Those are your evidences that you are fighting. Thank you for fighting and staying. This world need you." Joy said and attempted to hug her but the bell rang again. Fallon cleared her throat and just left her all alone. When she reached the doorstep, she looked back at her.
" I did not ask for your opinion. "
Joy felt her world fall apart. She showed Fallon her vulnerable side but she ignored it and left her all alone.
"Of course she wouldn't be easy." she thought to herself.
