"Demia has always been a lion among sheep on the continent of Prokos. Even more than three hundred years ago when we still bore the Winged Dragon on our royal heraldry, we stood above all others. The Declaration mountain range was even named so to represent the ancient Halduk Empire's futile attempts to draw an unstoppable wall between them and us. I say this because it is truth, and yet, in those days Demia was different.
"We conquered where we needed to, to support our incredible numbers, to ensure enough resources to prosper. The dragon was a heavy being, it needed strength to stand straight.
"But then, with the advent of qi, everything changed. Outsiders descended everywhere, far more than you think. Dozens of them, multiple in every kingdom, new sects popping up everywhere on the map as a wealth of knowledge and power was spread. The world descended into chaos immediately.
"And every one of those outsiders had one task in mind before all others.
Psstt... read me.
I've seen quite a few comments on the whole Vampyr thing, both excited and disappointed, and I just wanted to clear up the trajectory of the story a little for those unsure of where it's headed (no spoilers of course).
The idea behind this novel started with asking how a vampire comes about in a world of cultivation, and the answer that perhaps it started with a man obsessed with the sun.
From there, it was about how that idea may be different from what we expect, and what said man would do after the fact. Does a man forced into shadow suddenly lose his obsession for the sun?
There has been the introduction of the shadow world and the path of slaughter recently, both derived from things I think integral to the 'usual' idea of a vampire, but I have no intention to take this novel down an edgy killfest route (any more than I already have... whoops).
Going forward will still be as it always has. Lucian discovering the type of man he is and his place in this world and others. Exploring the idea of what a Vampyr is and could be, and an even greater focus on cultivation and newly, the reason for and meaning of cultivation in the universe of PoA.
Well, that's about it. If it sounds like something that interests you, feel free to stick around and explore some fun ideas and self-proclaimed great combat :)
