Looking at his friend sprawled on the floor, the man glared at Bolin but what he got is complete disinterest. Bolin just waited like everyone else.
For a moment he had a feeling of fear, but knowing that the whole gang is backing him up he became careless. Bolin saw is hand incoming towards his face and he stopped it with one swift movement.
"You seems didn't learn your lesson? Should I knock you out as well? I can even make you disappear. So what will it be? You go or I make you go?'' Bolin didn't have fear. He heard about that gang when he was in the city. Group of misfits, pickpockets and bullies.
The man shivered as he saw death lust in Bolins eyes. ''We go...''
He picked up his friend from the ground and put on the horse and as they rushed away he got aware of one fact. The little girl seemingly was surprised as well. It seems that that big man has nothing to do with her. But if he stays to work there, things will be more complicated from now on.
As soon he entered the room people inside stood up quickly to help him with the other man. ''What happened?''
He shook his head and went straight to the head of the gang. ''Big brother, there is someone who came to work for little miss. As much as I can see he doesn't work for her, but if he stays there, I fear that we will have trouble finishing our task. He is too strong.''
The man that he called big brother stood up, walked to him and smiled. ''So you just run away like a coward? What use is of you if you can't handle one man?''
''Big brother, please listen to me. That man is not as simple as you think. He...'' But his next words stopped as the man took a knife and sliced his neck with one swift move. With eyes filled with surprise, the man fell to the floor while his mouth filled with blood. He held his neck and tried to explain to him something but was kicked to the other side of the room where a man sat and just stabbed him one more time.
The other man didn't even wake up when he died as well. After finishing up he pointed at the two bodies. ''I don't need useless people. If you make the same mistake as those two, you will end up dead as well. Don't be stupid and piss me off.'' He glanced at the man that just cleaned his knife and chuckled. ''You wanna go?''
The man snorted. ''Why should I? I do not belong to your gang and I have no intention of cleaning up your mess. I am just a messenger. The farm needs to be again bought off. If those people find out what is there, our boss will get extremely pissed off.''
He became serious and bowed slightly. ''I understand. We as well hate having loose ends. If you don't handle this well and gather too much attention you all will end up just like those two men you just killed.'' In passing, he wiped his knife on the gang's boss's clothes and left as he started laughing eerily.
On the farm, the people were stunned by her idea. Especially man with the big face scar. ''Miss, why do we do that?''
She smiled. ''Most of the vegetables can be salted but too much salt is sometimes bad for your health. The residue from the vine is called vinegar and can be used for many things. But the most important use is to make vegetables be useful in wintertime. I will show you how to do it and you just follow my lead. This is sour so most people can't eat it. But once you get used to, you will want to eat it often.''
She explained everything about how to make pickled vegetables. The cabbages were pickled with salt and left in jars as well as all kinds of beets.
Some vegetables are left to be dried and whit many people all the stuff was done actually until lunch.
Shu Ya had a huge smile on her face as she saw them finishing up and pointed at a few simple crude tables wit simple benches. ''All sit down, lunch is done.'' They had porridge for breakfast but for lunch, they knew they will get good food as delicious smell came out of the kitchen.
They asked the few people that helped in the kitchen but they just mysteriously smiled and told them to wait. they knew that something good was cooking and anticipated it. But as there were many they choose to eat on shifts or just stand on the side. Some even sat down on the floor making Shu Ya giddy but Louli calmed her down. ''Miss they are northerners. Few minutes sitting on the floor is nothing. They are used to do that in their houses as well.''
Soon the food started coming out making everyone's mouth watery.
Thick stew, vegetables in all kind ways cooked, meats of many sorts and tasty rice for everyone. They are used to take their own bowls from home so when they made a line for rice at first they feared that it won't be enough but then realized that they made three big pots only with rice.
Shu Ya smiled. ''You all did a good job. You finished everything fast so I chose to give you good food. I don't say I can do this all the time but at least this time. But in summer I will be able to make again good food. If you come to help me with the land I will pay you fairly. As you all finished under one day, as promised I pay double to each of you. After you are done, please make the line so Mingli can pay you all.''
Hearing that not they not even going to be paid for one day, then double they became completely baffled. Looking at her clear eyes they all suddenly felt ashamed. So they denied it. ''Miss, we finished until noon. So just pay us for the whole day. We finished fast as we are many. If we take more than we deserve people will look down on us. We are not bad people.''
She sighed and nodded. ''I just wanted to make sure that some of you will come to help me when winter passes. I still hope so.'' She sat down on the chair while Mingli handled the money and people.
Not long after that people went on their carriages and with smiles waved at her.
