Chapitre 9: 09. Fever

When he said his sons should come she expected small children of her age or younger. But what came was three teenagers that had different characters. One was silent but smart, the second one was full of vigour and emotional and the last one was playful but behind his eyes could be seen knowledge and craftiness as well.

Shu Ya saw that all in just one glance and bowed in front of them.

Lady Hong pulled her back into the chair and started piling food in front of her. Shu Ya had to stop her. ''I am indeed somewhat hungry, but if I eat too much in the evening, it won't do me any good.''

Lady Hong just stopped and smiled at the boys. ''Eat, eat...'' They didn't even explain who she is sp Shu Ya felt strange. But after a while, she felt a tinge of hunger in her belly and rose her hand to pick up the chopsticks. As she started eating a bit of her arm could be seen and bluish bruises crisscrossed all over to her wrists.

But that was seen by just a tiny moment and she just started eating. Not long after she felt full and stopped while Lady Hong looked at her in worry.

''Is the food not at your liking? I can tell the cook to prepare your favourites. Just tell me...'' But saw Shu Ya smiling.

''Sorry. Today was quite... tiering day. I would like to go back to the place and rest. I think I am too tired to eat now. Please excuse me.'' Her eyes felt so heavy and after eating a bit, she started feeling sleepy.

''Foolishness. You will sleep in our guest room. Servants, bring her to the guest room and leave some midnight snacks and tea for her.'' Lady Hong could see Shu Ya swaying a little on her feet.

Shu Ya was sent to the guest room and was about to close her eyes when the youngest son suddenly appeared near her bed. ''Why did you show me those marks?''

Shu Ya slowly pointed at the old urn. ''I need your help. I know it is not much and after your father did so many things for me I couldn't push him to do more. I fear that the ashes inside are not my mothers. Somehow I have that feeling. Please... help... me...'' Her hand fell down and she fainted.

He quickly came closer and held her hand. As her hands were tiny the sleeve rolled up to her shoulder and multiple bruises and scars could be seen all over in different stages of healing. But what made him worried was warmth in of her skin. He touched her forehead and realized she had a fever and a not a little bit.

He rushed out and ordered servants to call for the doctor while he rushed back to the main room. ''Mother, I was a bit in worry about miss Bai and went to see how she is. First I thought she was asleep but her face looked pained so I went near. I think he has a fever.'' They all jumped as he explained. ''I already send servants for the doctor.''

They all forgot about food and rushed to Shu Ya's room. When Lady Hong saw completely blushed cheeks on Shu Ya's face she quickly ordered. ''Bring me fresh clothes for her as she will probably sweat and cold water to calm her fever. Quick. You all, out!''

She literally kicked out all the men that just went to the main room. The youngest started pacing and then stood in front of his father. ''I fear she has something in her heart. I didn't want to mention it in front of their mother, but she opened eyes before fainting and told me she has suspicion that the ashes are not her mothers. She told me not to tell you as you did so many things for her, but how can I find out without your help? Father, is it possible?''

Lord Ka's eyes became completely dark as he jumped. ''Those people seemingly did things they shouldn't have. I need to get back to them. Tell your mother if she asks that I got news about one of the cases so I had to leave. Watch over Shu Ya. It is important you do that.''

The boys could only accept the task and look at how he rushed out in just a few steps. Soon the noise of horses could be heard and then silence enveloped them.

In the room, Lady Hong was waiting for the doctor fist, before changing Shu Ya's clothes and all she could do is just try to lower bit of her temperature as she put some wet cloth over her forehead and ankles. Her skin was burning hot. While she was putting the cloth on her ankles she saw few bruises but as she knew that Shu Ya was running around in mountains she didn't think too much about it.

the doctor arrived and rushed towards the bed where a small child was lying. He took thin silk cloth and put it over the child's wrist. As he concentrated his face became darker and darker.

''It is a wonder this child survived this far. She was starved for days if not longer. Not only that, but it also seems there are some problems with her liver, kidneys and lungs. Was she tortured?'' He looked at a small child's face and except her face and hands, he didn't see anything else. He wondered.

But the child suddenly rose her hands as to grab something and then her hand weakly fell on the side. As the sleeve slid until her elbow many bruises and cuts could be seen in different stages. from deep blur to slight yellowish that was while ago. It was a clear sign of beatings.

The doctor's eyebrows furrowed. ''I have no idea who this child is but doing such devious things... I fear that if she doesn't find proper medicine, her life will be hard. Whoever beat her up, they knew what they were doing. It will be hard for this child to have her own children in a lifetime. And her life won't be long. I will prescribe some medicine that you can find and will order the good one from the capital, but will we be able to find it. That is another question. For now, let us save her. She needs to be saved.''

He wrote a whole bunch of medicines and gave a prescription to his assistant.

''I will go out. I planned to ask you to rub alcohol all over her body, but she has many open wounds so what you have to do is to help me clean her wounds and to put some medicine on them.'' He started explaining while servant behind Lady Hong started writing it down.

The doctor left so they rushed to change Shu Ya's clothes, but what they saw...
