Chapitre 34: The Twelfth Night - Part 1 - The Glitters more Valuable than any Gold

Countless waves on the surface of the flood created chaos as they relentlessly rise brought by the howling wind.

The sky was partially filled with clouds. It would not entirely cover the moon so soon, the moonlight will be refracted like holy lights on the chaotic flood when it arrives.

However, beneath the surface of the flood where terror currently reigns, was abnormally quiet on the other hand.

Renir felt the familiar comfort as he thought, 'I died again...?'

He was the only source of light in his short proximity with the golden light. His body was freely but gradually drifting from the flow of water.

His eyes opened, feeding his consciousness to what happened.

'I died', he repeated in his thoughts, his eyes became lifeless.

But this repeating thought led to him realizing, '...They.... died too?!'

Abruptly, his eyes widened!

Right after, his third bead of revival cracked and fully broke into pieces before disappearing in the water.

A surge of golden light came out as it broke. The spirit-rejuvenating light warmly enveloped his whole being, and that was the last push for him to get back his clear state of mind.

'Where are they?!', he panicked.

Sceke already revealed that they are not as strong as he is, meaning, they were in danger!

'But we all died at the same time,', Renir logically reasoned, 'They must be still covered with this golden light!'

Immediately, his white jacket softly fluttered and flailed as if Renir was not traveling at an immense speed, contradicting the water resistance.

He looked around, but even though he could not see something, just absolute darkness, he felt he was going in the right direction. In the entire time, it was as if his eyes were closed.

But strangely enough, he couldn't doubt his "guts" and he was proven correct when he saw a dot of light to similar to him.

Undoubtedly, that was one of the people he met!

So hurriedly, Renir flapped his feet to make a whooshing sound as he unstoppably coursed through underneath the water.

With his feet, just after a few seconds, the dot was large enough for him to recognize who it was!

It was the man with a small height, 'If I remember correctly, his name should be Hanzee!'

After he thought of this, he reached Hanzee who was still covered by the golden light and pulled him up the surface.

"Huwah~!", Renir met the newly chaotic state of the flood with the howling wind and the relentless waves occurring everywhere he looked at.

He swerved his head left and right to find the indestructible mountain.

The splashes and howls from the surface woke the recovering Hanzee.

Slowly, his eyes opened to see the panicking Renir while being blown by the strong wind.

'Strong wind?', Hanzee thought as his mind was slowly reaching its clear state, unlike Renir who immediately recovered just as the last surge of golden light touched him, ' Is it already the twelfth night?'

Renir looked far and saw the peak of the indestructible mountain, the only place he knew they could evacuate.

Before Hanzee reached the state of a clear mind, he was reminded of how abnormal Renir was when the wind blew even stronger as they accelerated towards evacuation.

Hanzee's right cheek was being pushed by the strong wind while going against the big waves.

The only question he could ask in his head was, 'How?'

Only in the records could Hanzee find another man like Renir in the City of Misfortune.

They were legends that have enough power to challenge the trials of the Gantlet's third stage...

'If it was him, he could conquer the City of Misfortune.', Hanzee sadly and slightly thought with envy.

Hanzee wanted to speak to Renir but because of the strength of the wind, there is no way he could shout loud enough for Renir to hear, he thought.

But he didn't have to wait since his inside fell down as he realized Renir unexpectedly jumped out of the flood and into the entrance of the cave.

Hanzee couldn't see well within the darkness even with the golden light dimly surrounding the two so he created light with his fire. He looked around to see only him and Renir so without hesitation, he asked before Renir turned his back to him, "Renir, where are the others?"

The soft red light was reflected on Renir's sharp eyes when he turned his head to Hanzee, he replied, "On my way.", at the same time the wind blew stronger to extinguish Hanzee's fire.

When the light was gone and the darkness filled Hanzee's eyes again, he heard a splash louder than the splashes the waves created.

Renir dived off...

Hanzee sat up with complicated emotions. He whispered under the loud wind, almost making it inaudible;

"It's only the twelfth night...", he stared, amazed.

The legends that were written in the City of Misfortune's records gained their powers equal to Renir's, if not stronger, only after completing the second stage of Gantlet.

If Renir continued to increase his power, how much of a monster would he be after the second stage of Gantlet?

Worry and this kind of thought circulated in Hanzee's head.

Meanwhile, Renir continued to swim furiously as he could while following his "guts" because he could notice the golden light that surrounds him was dimming.

As soon as he saw a glitter underneath the water, he dived underneath to see one, near the surface...

It was the little girl!

So Renir took her before her golden light vanishes and signal the water creatures to swarm them.

He had noticed, just earlier that the golden light was banishing the water creatures away.

He unsurely learned this while he was swimming, he sensed that the water creatures were fleeing rather than the other way around.

But the one thing he unconsciously ignored was that his ears haven't twitched a lot even though he was sensing various creatures since his encounter with the Water Sentinel.

As he resurfaced, he felt a clutch from the little girl to his jacket. He looked at her as if she had something to say so Renir stopped.

Due to the strong wind, Ye made her voice loud enough for Renir to hear;

"My grandfather was still there!", she cried as if she was pleading, "He was hugging me earlier but then he released me!", even though she was shouting as loud as she can, it sounded like whispers through the string wind.

As she said this, the dimming gold light that should be comforting her completely vanished.

Renir had a complicated expression, he knew that there was someone there but he planned to come back again after he brought the little girl to safety, "If I left you here, you will be harmed by the water creatures...", he said to her ears.

Hearing this, the little girl threw a tantrum, "No! No! You can leave me here! Please! Please! I will wait!"

Renir frowned and since there was no time left, he reluctantly let go of the little girl.

He couldn't just bring her while he searched in the depths since he knew she could not hold her breath long the same as he is.

So he wasted no time to dived deep and used his senses and eventually, he found the grandfather even without the golden light anymore.

Renir reached out his hand in the darkness and he felt the grandfather and realized this old man was lying on the very ground floor, the land before the flood.

Renir pulled the old man and realized his weight and also realized why the old man was dragged down!

However, with Renir's superhuman strength, he had no problem pulling the old man up to the surface but as he resurfaced he noticed blood and heard flailing while still on the water.

Renir hurried and took the little girl.

With the old man on his back and the little girl on his left shoulder, he swam towards the indestructible mountain. While so, he heard the painful sobs of the young girl and it woke the old man.

"Ye?", the old man inaudibly whispered but Renir heard this even with the strong wind because it was just beside his left ear.

Within just a single minute, Renir jumped out of the water and smoothly landed on the cave entrance, and gently placed the bleeding little girl and the worried old man.

Hanzee was even more baffled when he created light using his fire for a glimpse before it was immediately extinguished by the strong wind.

'How was he so fast?'

And before Hanzee could say anything, Renir left them with Old Ze and Ye.

Once again, Renir swam while following his senses with full trust. Without it, he didn't know how to save these people without the golden light that covered them.

And eventually, the moon rose and its moonlight refracted through the clouds like holy lights and there, Renir he saw the woman, Veronia, fighting on the surface of the flood.

Conveniently, he didn't have to dive to search.

Even Renir was amazed when he saw Veronia disappearing into a black mist, that was never disrupted by the strong wind as if it was immaterial, before returning back to her original form to evade the incoming water creatures of the water.

With one step, Veronia skipped another and will turn into the black mist mid-air.

She was grateful that her new transcendent skill uses too little energy. But still, if this continued, her energy will eventually exhaust itself to void and she will be left there to bleed until death.

Fortunately for her, as the moon showered the flood with its refracted moonlight, she saw Renir traveling with an unbelievable speed.

Veronia was mid-air so Renir just waited for her to fell on his back.

"Renir!", she immediately shouted as soon as she knew Renir could hear him, "Sceke was eaten!"

She said those words in the hope that Renir could do something about it, but later realized that no matter how strong Renir was, he could never go against the Water Sentinel so she sadly quietened.

Even if there was a chance for Renir to accomplish such a feat to save Sceke. The two were total strangers to each other just earlier. She could never ask him for a huge favor that could result in his death, that was why she gave up.

Renir had his eyebrows frowned the whole time while he swam across the surface of the flood as if he had not heard what Veronia said.

But he himself noticed the relentless sobbing on his back.

When they reached the cave, Veronia just curled on the ground and cried loudly.

"Sceke was eaten!", she repeated.

Hearing this, Hanzee and even Old Ze had their eyes welled up by tears.

No matter how many beads Sceke have, there was no way to save him from the Water Sentinel's stomach.

And they all knew except Renir that Sceke had the fewest.

But while they mourn, the moonlight reached them, and eventually, they noticed Renir was gone...
