Renir learned that there will be more of that sword-like water creatures not because of his twitching ears, but because he sensed it, and the twitching of his ears was just the result of it.
This was the first time that this ever happened to Renir. His ears didn't twitch like this even if he sensed something approaching.
But this time, it was different. A different kind of sense formed in Renir and he only got this when... he ate the first sword-like water creature that pierced through his left shoulder.
Renir gritted his teeth as he remembered the hole in his shoulder.
Since these third water creatures were so full of energy enough for Renir to recover, he decided to eat more before resurfacing.
Just seconds after his ears trembled, Renir heard another swoosh from three different directions.
He didn't know how to dodge so he let his body do the work and felt how he would dodge the three incoming sword-like fishes.
His body twisted and swirled in a curved form. But that was not perfect since when the three water creatures passed by him, they faintly left slices on Renir's pale skin.
Renir frowned but that pain was not too much of a problem for him now. He can endure that much.
He had no idea if that was the minimal casualty he could have but it was already great that none of them actually pierced him.
The upgrade really did drastically improve his sense and reactive ability, Renir was happy about it, just that now was not the time to celebrate.
But those three were not the only reason his ears were trembling as two more from different direction was about to hit him right after the three.
However, this time, Renir needed to catch even if just one. While his body moved according to his new sense, his metallic claws was on its way to meet the two water creatures.
Swoosh*! and Renir caught two at the same time!
Renir widened his eyes, wondered by his new sense. Knowing it would improve by eating these sword-like fishes, he devoured them with all his might.
But that was it, his new sense only improved so much until it stayed the same.
Fortunately, Renir already got his fill as he felt both of his feet were about to fully recover.
Even if the water grazing his skinless feet was painful when he paddled them, it couldn't be compared from before when even the bones where missing.
Renir felt energy recovering him and he was relieved that the abyss of the flood gave him something valuable.
His senses weren't further improved but increased. Renir couldn't explain it like how he couldn't explain how he sees using the sense of sight without a proper study.
Paddling his feet was rippling the abyss that propelled Renir up more than he wanted to. He was so fast he could exit the abyss in seconds.
Renir's ears twitched and many of these third water creatures were following him!
Although he had no use of them any longer, later on, he would. His ears were trembling again, this time, Renir sensed something approaching him faster and bigger.
Of course, the monstrous slime, Giganslik is back like death train.
Renir couldn't see well yet but he ignored the Giganslik and continued to swim up, which was already perpendicular to the Giganslik's direction.
His eyes literally shone when it reflected the flashing of the bolts of lightning from above, he successfully exited the abyss.
Renir heard swooshing under him and his ears stopped trembling as he saw that the Giganslik hit all the water creatures that followed him.
Luck must've been on his side now.
But he decided not to get back there to eat the murdered water creatures as he felt he needed air.
The surface was near him and the Giganslik just passed by him. It was a shame that he didn't get to observe that giant slime as it passed by to see if it recovered or not from what Renir left on its body.
When Renir was about to resurface he met those little vampires that were one of his topmost hated creatures!
But now, he didn't let them swarm him as he opened his mouth wide open with his metallic jaw and like a whale, he caught all those that approached him while his metallic claws helped on putting some amount on his mouth.
Just a little more and Renir could be scarier than the Giganslik. But that will be after he defeated that monstrous giant slime.
With a big chump, Renir's left shoulder slowly but fully healed and the swarm reduced significantly. He was now like a net instead of a fishing hook with this technique!
"Huaahh!!", for an uncountable time, Renir sipped in a large amount of air as he resurfaced.
He looked around and saw that the mountain was not that far from him.
The scenario repeated with the Giganslik following him and him, swimming back to the cliff.
'One more time!', Renir endured as he swam back to the mountain with all his might.
This time, this time for sure he will finish that giant slime once and for all!
Was the thought that kept repeating inside Renir's head to keep the fire inside of him blazing.
Renir, while swimming, realized every time a thunder roared on the clouded sky, his ears twitched.
That gave him the idea of what was the sense he newly gained, but he currently didn't have the time to think about it.
But he knew that the Giganslik reached its maximum speed once more.
'Perfect!', Renir thought optimistically.
But he reached the cliff first and climbed on it easily since the flood already reached it.
When he stood up, he turned around and wasted no time to immediately ducked!
The Giganslik jumped out of the water and was already on top of Renir, soaring through the rain at a high speed.
To Renir's elation, he heard a loud thud!
Without the thought of hesitation, Renir turned around and jumped at the flattened and unmoving Giganslik.
Its inside was thoroughly more crushed that before. And luckily, Renir saw that although Giganslik did recover, it was not much.
While he can, he dived down the monster's unmoving body and continued by pummeling down the crushed rocks. It was easier now than before.
'I could do this!', Renir smiled.
But as if it sensed danger, the Giganslik moved and since its body was already flattened, it used its elastic body to jumped out of that situation as always.
Renir didn't see the point of clutching onto it and let go, because he was so sure that monster will come back.
The Giganslik dropped into the flood with a huge splash and dived deep down.
Renir was familiar at this when moments later, he saw a shadow beneath rapidly gaining size.
"It's going to do what it did before again!", Renir exclaimed but something was strange. This time, it took the Giganslik more time to emerge.
But Renir only did realize why when he saw the Giganslik's speed upwards as it jumped out of the flood.
Before it didn't reach the clouds, but now, it flew passed it.
Renir couldn't see it, but the giant covered the declining moon with its size. It was like a heavenly being that was about to fall from the heavens!
Renir gulped, he was scared but not because of what the Giganslik did but what he himself was about to do.
Amidst the noisy downpouring rain, roars of thunder, and flashes of lightning, Renir looked up, unmoving as he waited for the Giganslik's devastating descend.
Faster than the drop of rain, the Giganslik fell at its fastest speed!
Renir squatted and observed the one that was falling before stomping the ground as powerful as he could and made his body jolt from the ground.
But that was not all as he pulled his right hand from beneath and thrust it upwards with all his remaining strength.
Renir planned to clash with the Giganslik's devastating descend!
And that should be the final clash!
When they made contact, even with a piercing form a bang exploded that disrupted the fall of the surrounding droplets of rain!
In a blink of an eye, a huge hole was created in the middle of the Giganslik's body and Renir emerged from it with his body filled with scrapes and blood.
He... had won?
His right hand was mutilitated to its bone, even his metallic claw couldn't withstand the great force of impact and broke.
Renir stopped mid-air with his eyes closed and a peaceful face before his body began to fall.
But as he landed, there was no sound since he was caught by the Giganslik's unmoving body.
The impact of the fall made Renir's eyes open.
His whole body was shivering, spilling vigorous blood all over that the rain was failing to wash it off.
But he turned his head to his right with great hardship and saw the remnants of the Giganslik's core - its first original body, the black slime.
With his remaining strength, his left hand reach for his devastated right hand and grabbed the black slime.
When he pulled it, he groaned in pain since it was embedded in his mutilated right arm that was left with a sharp bone.
Tears fell from his eyes but he endured and pulled the black slime.
If he did not, he will lose consciousness and die. With his little left strength, the black slime was heavy for him but with fortitude, he brought it to his mouth.
Chomp!*
