Chapitre 15: Friendship

URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT:
Hello dear viewers, long time no see. I have been absent for more than 2 years due to personal issues during covid and starting college/university. I am thankful to all of you for your support of this project. I would like to announce that I just got back to posting fan-fics and it is about anime/manga - Blue Lock. While Dr. Octavius was looking for a new place Peter just came out from his hangar. He was working there all day, particularly on the prototype of another type of web which he called the diamond-web. It was not because of the look of a web, but more because of its durability, as it was much stronger than the regular one and could hold larger masses. However, it was not finished yet, as the web was too heavy, so the web-shooter was unable to launch it on long distances. The purpose of this web is to allow Peter to immobilize physically strong opponents which would give him a big advantage.
When he got back home he saw that Aunt May and Uncle Ben were not sleeping, which was very atypical as it was 1 a.m. They were sitting on the sofa and watching a breaking news report when Peter entered the house.
"Hi Peter. How are you?" Aunt May asked.
"Hi, I am fine. I was working on the project I told you about and just didn't notice that it's night already."
Peter told Uncle Ben and Aunt May that he was working on a genetics project with his friends that they planned to present in September. In reality, although the science exhibition was to take place in September, Peter was not bothered about it at all and was planning of doing it a day before the exposure.
"That's good. Maybe one of the big science companies like Oscorp will hire you one day. Although things are not looking good for them" Uncle Ben said.
"What do you mean?"
"Didn't you see the news? Look" he said while pointing at a TV with his finger.
"According to our reporters, 3 scientists fell down from the building as a result of a blast wave from an explosion in one of the Oscorp laboratories on the top floor. Dr. Walters and the head of the project - Dr. Octavius survived, but his wife Rosalie Octavius became a victim of unforeseen circumstances. From what we heard from the board of directors the accident occurred because of error in calculations before the test."
"No... another strong villain..." Peter was thinking. "But why so fast? Only about 2 months passed from the Green Goblin's defeat. It seems like actions are happening very fast in this world and villains will appear more often. I need to stop Otto before he can harm others, he is very strong and smart. Maybe if I can persuade him, we can work together. I remember that in the Spider-Man 2 movie he became a victim of his own invention, he is a good person who got very unlucky."
"That is very unfortunate. But how did the other 2 survive?" Peter asked.
"They said that one of them managed to clutch at the edge of the building with the help of a special mechanism or something like that" Uncle Ben said.
"Well, this is very interesting but I am exhausted. Good night!"
"Good night!" both May and Ben said.
Peter was on his way to the stairs when he heard something...
"We received new information, the board of directors of Oscorp decided to hire a new leader for their company. According to our sources, it will be Norman Osborn's son - Harry Osborn. He has already been approved for the position and will soon begin work. We are reminding that the leader of one of the biggest companies in the USA has turned 16 recently."
"What... that is not the way it happened in movies and comics, but why did they hire him now? They could have done it right after Norman's death, but they didn't. They had a huge decline in stock prices after the accident with shareholders and the situation did not improve much. Do they really think a 16-year old teenager will be able to make the company work more effectively than experienced directors?" Peter was thinking while going upstairs. "No, they did it on purpose! They want Harry to fail so that all the blame falls on his shoulders. I will not let them do this, he is my best friend and I do not care whether he forgave me or not."
Peter texted Harry and said that they should meet as soon as possible. He did not respond.
(Next morning)
Peter put on his suit and went to Harry's house ear;y in the morning, he knew that he was going to have his first meeting that day and that he needed to warn him in advance. Peter entered the apartment using the opened window in the bedroom, Harry was still sleeping. Peter woke him up.
"Peter?"
"Hi, how are you?"
"I am fine, how did you get in?"
"Your window was open"
"Let's go to the kitchen, I have something to tell you" Harry said.
They went there and started having breakfast.
"Peter... I haven't seen you in a while and all this time I was thinking about what you said. I watched the recordings from the cameras about 3 weeks ago. I did not want to watch them because I refused to believe that my father was a killer"
"I am very sorry Harry..."
"It's ok. You told me the truth, that's what a real friend would do, right?"
"Yeah..."
"But I cannot forgive you yet, I need some time. Although I never had a very close relationship with my dad, I always loved him and tried to be like him."
"I understand"
After a moment of awkward silence...
"You want to say something else?"
Peter had a guilty look.
"Come on, you disappeared for almost 2 months and you came to my house on the first day of my new job. You surely have something to say."
"I want to warn you"
"What do you mean?"
"I am almost 100% sure that they made you a company leader now on purpose so that all of the pressure from media falls on you"
"No, how can you think way of people who were working with my dad for so many years?" Harry responded with frustration.
"Listen, why they did not hire you 2 months ago then? Why now? The moment Oscorp is in its worst market position for the last 5 years they decide to hire an inexperienced teenager, that is not a coincidence!"
"You know what, I think it has nothing to do with my future and my reputation. You just do not want me to become a company leader, because you are jealous."
"No, how can you think of me this way?" Peter answered angrily.
Peter took a deep breath and said...
"I think they will try to persuade you to do the actions that will harm the company even more. Like investing in useless projects or something of that sort. Harry, it is all about business and nothing personal. Even though they were close friends of your family, you never know their real intentions are".
Harry was thinking about Peter's words.
"Alright. So you think they want to get rid of me to control the company fully?"
"Yes"
"I do not want to agree with you, but it's possible"
Peter and Harry talked on this topic for 15 more minutes and were about to leave, as Harry needed to go to his first meeting.
"Hey Peter, thanks for warning me"
"That's what a real friend would do, right?"
"Yes" Harry answered with a small smile on his face before shutting the door.
