He placed his rough hand on her back and placed the other one on the back of her head, pressing her even harder into his chest. Closing his eyes he answered her very calmly. "No! Your mother could not escape the fire that night. By the time I got there, your mother was taking the last breath of her life."

And in the meantime, Raina burst into tears. She clenched his shirt in her delicate and small hand.
