Chapitre 11: Chapter 11

That night at home, Kear had a talk with Veno.

'I'm going to teach you how to fight. You need to be able to defend yourself and you need to work out a bit more.'

'Kear…'

At first Veno was against it, but if he really was going to work there then he needed to at least be able to defend himself.

---

Over the next month, Kear trained Veno with some basic moves to defend himself. If she ever went away, then he would be safe enough. Focusing on school Veno's grades started to go up. He wasn't the best in math class, but with Kear he got better. For his part time job, Veno was able to make money. With Rin's advice he stored 90% of his check into the bank for savings. The other 10% was used however Veno wanted. Granno, Wren, and Plavlin all wanted to go to that club, but they weren't old enough yet. He spent money buying a couple games for them to play and some other things for the children in the orphanage.

Kear had totally given up on the idea that this wasn't real. She thought it was and she was able to cope with it. In a strange way, if she could help out this young man she would.

Veno on the other hand came to really depend on Kear. For the most part they were in their own world. He did have feelings for Kear, but nothing romantic. At this point she was like another mother to him.

Veno would let Kear talk with Rin. In a way Kear needed someone to talk to. Veno had told Kear that Rin used to be a therapist and Rin accepted Kear. They would talk about miscellaneous things, but sometimes Kear would talk about her nightmares. They were always filled with the same thing in some form or another; being killed. Veno couldn't not listen to it, so he knew about it too. Everything she described was chilling to hear. He really felt bad that Kear had to go through that.

At school with Kear's insistence, Veno got to know Juniqu a bit better. They talked and just last went on a date. They went to a restaurant to eat some dinner. Kear also dressed him up for the date. The vest was really growing on him from the first day he bought it with Kear. So he had bought a few and some dress pants along with it that would complete the look. Kear was happy to see him growing up as a fine young man.

Veno's friends were finding it harder and harder to get together with Veno. He spent the rest of the time training his body with Kear's instructions. They had found a gym that would allow them to work out and it was a perfect fit for their needs.

At around five o'clock that afternoon, after finishing their homework, Rin knocked on the door. She received a call from the police asking out Veno.

"They called asking if you were available to translate for them."

"I had totally forgotten about that resume we posted."

"They asked me if you could do it and I told them that you were interested in different languages and learned them all on your own. They asked if you could visit them tomorrow in the afternoon."

"I don't work tomorrow, so we could do it."

---

The next day Rin drove Veno over towards the police station. Walking in there was a detective that led them inside giving them some details.

It was a child that was out alone in an alleyway. The kid didn't understand them and they couldn't understand what the kid was saying. It didn't sound like anything they had ever heard of. They looked online for people that could translate for them, but none of them worked. Then they saw what Veno had posted and called to see if he could do it. They knew he was young, but they couldn't figure it out.

Veno was led into the room and Kear swapped with him before sitting down. The child had dark brown hair and was wearing some clothing the officers had found for the kid. Since Veno home was an orphanage this kid would have eventually landed there.

"Hello!"

"…"

Kear started trying every language she knew. It was a long process, but the little girl eventually understood it. It was a niche dialect. It was from one of the enemies of the United Federation, a human enemy. Well that didn't matter for the kid, but she was able to know where it came from.

"Can I ask your name?"

"Korral…"

Korral and Kear were able to talk to each other. It looked like someone had hurt her mother and she was hiding. This was probably something that they didn't share with Kear, maybe due to wanting to test her or a sense to protect the young Veno.

Kear relayed the information with the officers. She told them what the Korral liked, her name, and what she described her parents as. It was hard, but the little girl described how her dad hit her mother. Korral didn't understand it all, but it sounded like that girl wasn't going back home at all. Though that wouldn't be too bad, because she could join them at their home.

Rin was in the room at the same time listening to Kear. She had come to understand this woman that was inside Veno's body. Rin was able to tell that she meant no harm, and in no way was a split personality. There was no way Veno could know everything that Kear knew.

---

Some paperwork and a few days later, Korral lived with them legally. Seeing Veno and Rin had built trust in Korral and later she was able to play with the other children; making friends and laughing for the first time they had seen her.

Kear was there to help translate anything, but Korral was smart and started to understand their language and was able to speak single words. Soon phrases and sentences over the next month.

Kear was happy that she was able to help that child. Over her years of watching others get torched, while she translated, really stuck with her. Now that she was living with Veno there was more color in her life. It made her happy to help others.

While it was something I wanted to be said, I didn't want to spend too much time. This was just the time when Veno and Kear were introduced to a new job.
