Chapitre 35: Break his heart
Reese used to love the lights and sound of the city. How come this time everything felt bitter for her?
She unconsciously ran her way to the villa she used to live in. Now, she's standing in front of the villa all silent and emotionless. The cold breeze of the night made everything more cold and sad for her.
The place that always welcomed her, supported her and made her smile- now all gone. She missed Ms. Ann's cooking and Butler Mo's guidance. Of course, what she will miss the most was the man who believed her, Severus was a blessing to a wicked monster like her.
Every step Reese takes, hurts more than thinking that everything ends here.
As soon as she reached the villa's front porch she held the doorknob and gently twisted it to check if the door was locked or not, but to her surprise, it was not locked.
She carefully opened the door and saw the whole place in dark, there were no lights open like she used to see once she came back and this was the only sign that the people who used to live inside this villa are now nowhere to be found.
The very moment Reese entered inside the villa, her strong sense of smell could clearly detect the scent this place used to have and she missed it more than enough.
She took a glance from the dinner table where she used to secretly enjoy Severus' sweet and sour pork and everything else Ms. Ann makes for her- either for breakfast, lunch and dinner. She also remembers her small talks with Butler Mo and Ms. Ann whenever she was alone here when she had no classes.
After that, Reese went to Severus' study room by the end of the first floor. She opened the door and there she saw different books on bookshelves inside the study room, the night lamp on his table.
Dahan-dahan na nilapitan ni Reese ang lamesa ni Severus at natagpuan ang iilang libro na nakakalat sa ibabaw ng lamesa nito. Reese was surprised to see that the books on top of his table were the books she published then, those were the books he bought before they went to meet his friends.
Reese chuckled lightly by just the thought of the conversation they had about her book. Telling her that the book describes what Reese really is. She picked one book and saw that there were a few bookmarks inside each book.
Reese scanned the book's bookmarks and each bookmark there were things that he highlighted. Like, he was highlighting a very important quote from the book. Binaba ni Reese ang libro at muling umikot sa loob ng study room ng binata.
This was the only room Reese wasn't able to check out. Usually, Severus rarely spends his time working inside this room. And just now, Reese finally had the chance to check the room out.
Lumabas si Reese sa study room at kaagad nagtungo sa ikalawang palapag ng villa, tumayo siya sa harap ng kuwartong dati niyang inuukupa. She chuckled as soon as she took a closer look at the door in front of her.
She remembered that day when Severus was worried about Reese that he was able to kick the door open and it ended up getting wrecked and Reese had no choice but to stay at his room back then.
Reese opened the door and it was the same when she last visited this room. Kaagad na lumapit si Reese sa kamana dati niyang tinutulugan at humiga dito. She closed her eyes trying to make herself feel the comfort she had when she used to sleep at this bed.
Napatingin si Reese sa study table niya at nakita ang mga libro na binabasa niya dati para sa klase niya, she also saw the blueprint she had with the unfinished task. Bumangon si Reese sa pagkakahiga at kaagad na inikot ang paningin sa buong kuwarto.
She missed the light color painting of this room, the room she has now was painted dark and every single interior of the mansion was heavy and old- and it shouts how old the place was but its oldness was the beauty of the place. It's as if Reese was living inside a castle.
When Reese had finally realized that he spent so much time inside the room, she decided to go to the last room she'll be visiting before she leaves.
Reese stood in front of Severus' room and she gently opened the door. She entered the room and everything was still in its rightful place. Reese spent her time looking at the picture frames inside Severus' room, they were still the same pictures the last time she saw it.
She held their wedding picture as she looked around the room. As the night gets longer, Reese's time to see this place one last time gets shorter.
"R-Reese…?"
Reese was startled when she heard a frail voice behind her, it was coming from Severus' doorway and her familiarity with the person's voice grew stronger that she never knew that she could tear up easily by just hearing his voice.
Reese was too scared to face him and realize that he's here after four years. She was scared to face him and cry in front of him. If she does do it, she might probably blurt out words she kept for so long and would be the reason for her to change everything she had planned- and that is leaving this place permanently and forgetting every single memory she had when she used to live as a mortal.
"Reese, face me."
Reese, who was dumbfounded, stayed still as she tried to process in with what's happening. She couldn't believe that after four years and all, she could hear that voice, again…
She gently wiped her tears before she had the guts to face the man she won't be seeing after this day.
Binaba ni Reese ang picture frame at kinuha ang lahat ng lakas para harapin si Severus na naguguluhan sa nangyayari.
She finally had the guts to face him and she smiled at him as if she did not leave four years ago without any goodbye or explanation.
"It's you." Simpleng saad ni Reese sa binata. "It's been so long, Severus."
Reese was glad that she did not stutter or broke down right after seeing Severus. Nothing much had changed in his appearance, he looked the same since the last time she saw him.
Nabigla si Reese nang mapaupo si Severus sa harap niya at matamaan na sinabunutan ang sarili buhok. The silence was too much that Reese couldn't take it, that she felt guilt after so long of missing him.
She used to think that it was not the right idea to leave without saying goodbye, but for what's happening right now? She thought that it was better leaving things as it is.
Reese sighed and she looked at Severus with guilt in her eyes. "Look," Reese paused as she took courage to speak up without stuttering. "I'm sorry for entering without permission. I shouldn't have done it --"
"And you really think I care about that?" Severus said in a low voice, still not facing Reese. "After you left without saying anything for four years, 'yan pa talaga ang inisip mo?"
Reese could really sense disappointment in his voice, but what dominates in his voice was longing and misery.
"I-I'm sorry…" Reese said in a low voice.
"Sorry won't fix everything, Reese." Severus stood from where he was and looked at Reese straight in the eyes. "Where were you these past four years when I was suffering with your absence? Where were you when I was struggling and doing everything just to find you? Did you know how much I missed you, Reese?"
From what Severus had told Reese, Reese's doubts and what ifs during those years she was gone was all a lie- thinking that in those years she thought Severus had forgotten her when he never did.
"I'm really sorry, Severus. I really am. I decided everything by myself and I was scared to face you that day at the hospital and the police were chasing me that time and all that was in my mind was I have to leave." Sagot ni Reese at mapait na ngumiti.
"All these years I thought you were dead, and yet, here you are. In front of me, telling me that you're sorry." Saad ni Severus. "You could have at least told me everything, I could have helped you face their accusations --"
"Those were true, Severus. I murdered them, that's why I tried to escape the police." Singit ni Reese.
"I don't care about those matters. I can still accept who you are and I am willing to ---"
"But will your family accept it?" Biglaang wika ni Reese.
Hindi makapag-salita si Severus sa sinabi ni Reese at naiintindihan niya naman iyon. That's the reason why she left, the reason why she never came back.
"It doesn't matter to me if they accept you or not, Reese. I accept you." Saad ni Severus.
Reese shook her head and smiled at him. "I'm sorry, but those things matter to me. They are your family, Sev. I am just no one, you can't choose me over them. I won't allow you to do that."
"No, Reese. You are my wife, you are not just no one." Tanggi ni Severus at lumapit kay Reese at hinawakan ang pareho niyang kamay. "You'll stay here for good, right?"
Binawi ni Reese ang kamay niya at malungkot na tinignan si Severus. She doesn't want him to beg like that, Reese doesn't deserve a man like him and everything should end before she gets married to Kier.
"I was never your wife, Severus. We were not married at all." Seryosong saad ni Reese at bumuntong hininga.
"Can you at least tell me why you left and never showed up again?"
"I was desperate to find out my true identity. And now that I found out who I am, I got to realize that a monster like me doesn't deserve to be happy and to be with you, Severus. I'm sorry." Sagot ni Reese.
Reese was startled when Severus suddenly came to her and hugged her after those years of suffering and longing.
Reese can't hug him back, she can't give him hope that everything will be back from the way it used to be, because in her reality, she has to forget those memories she had when she lived as a mortal- because she's not one anymore.
"Reese, please stay." Severus begged.
Reese tried her very best to restrain herself from staying, she doesn't want Severus to end up getting killed by her elders. She can't risk another important person to her. She has to make him forget about her existence, everything has to stop.
Reese had no other choice but to break his heart for the second time.
"I can't stay here anymore. I just came here to put things into end before I get married."
After saying that she's getting married, Reese decided to make Severus lose his consciousness so that Reese could leave. And as soon as she was able to do it, she gently brought Severus to his bed and smiled at him one last time.
"I love you, Severus Lim." She muttered before taking her eyes off of him.
Sorry, Severus.
