Chapitre 18: Escape

It's been two days since Aoi and Arunika used wormhole magic to escape the forest. They'll be reaching the border on the coast in about another couple of hours.

"We're almost there, Aoi-chan. See those sea cliffs in the distance? That's the border. I have to say though, it was smart taking us to where you did. It was the same distance from no matter where you would've put us, but we'll have a smaller chance at being caught by doing this."

Arunika is mentioning the point of Aoi choosing to travel to the location she washed up at. She chose this because by doing so, they would have a smaller chance at being caught and can have an even more direct line to travel by forgoing having to traverse through wooded areas in the Southern region.

"Let's try and speed up. I'm going to reduce the effect gravity has on us so we can travel faster."

The two felt feathery in their movements and sped up considerably albeit stumbling a few times getting used to their bodies feeling more lightweight. The only problem that slowed them down was the air resistance they were getting by the wind blowing across the glistening shores. With the speed they were going, excitement picked up for the two and Arunika started hooping and hollering with how fun it was to move like so, and all Aoi could do was laugh along with her.

It only took about 10 minutes to reach the cliff side on the border. They managed to find a cliff side cave to hole up in for the remaining time they would need to wait. As such, the days passed uneventfully while they huddled together in the cave snacking on their rations and water while learning more of their skills to pass the time. Also, sex. A lot of flirting and sex.

'Finally! I've lost their trail. It took two days and ditching my horse but I've finally lost them. If I knew Alonsis and his cronies were actually this bothersome, I would have done this differently. I need to get a bearing of my surroundings.

...

SHIT! I'm actually a day off from my planned destination. The ship's going to arrive at the coast soon. If I hurry up and push forward I should get there just as the ship pulls up.'

Eva, who's been running from Captain Alonsis and his enforcement team non-stop for the past three days, is exhausted and worn out from the constant need to adapt and drop her trail. If she didn't, it would all be for naught and she could possibly cause a war if they found out where she's from. The last thing she needs is to be caught and tortured as a spy from another country.

Just her presence in the empire without a permit from them alone is enough to warrant a call to war. She's been here for the past few years as a double agent trying to track Arunika's family to bring them home. Eva joined the enforcement team as a means to find out more about her and find a possible lead.

It wasn't until about 3 months ago that she found out Arunika ended up becoming an orphan at the age of 8 and has been alone for nearly a decade. Her parent's were traveling the world as a means to obtain more information for the good of their people. They wouldn't have even known where to look if it wasn't for the one known as "Sage" telling the people of Dilmun.

"Sage" being his name as no one knows anything about him other than being a clairvoyant, an extremely rare type of mental mage. His powers are known to be able to affect memories, attack someone's mind from miles away, and read the future, but they don't know if he has more up his sleeve. He only reads prophesies when something is deviating from "the right path" as he would say. Not much is known about him other than the fact he travels the world to set things as they should be.

The only thing "Sage" told them was that Arunika was in the Kreutz Empire and if they didn't find her and her companion by the end of this year's Autumn then the world would burn. More life would be lost than any other war has taken if they failed the task of bringing them back home, and the Empire would enslave the world.

'Ah shit! My legs and lungs are on fire, but I have to get there. The disturbances in the wind are telling me they've picked up my trail again. I only have another hour left before I get there. I just hope the two followed my instructions and are waiting at the cliffs.'

~~~~~~~~~~
"AOI-CHAN! AOI-CHAN! WAKE UP!"
"Hrm? What? What is it?" Aoi asked rubbing her eyes and sitting up from her slumber.
"There's a ship approaching in the distance!"
Aoi reacted quickly at the mention of a ship and jumped up throwing the blanket off of her. She went to the opening of the cave on the cliff face and stared out into the horizon. Her eyes widened in astonishment. Indeed, there was a ship approaching the coast. The woman they met nearly a week ago was telling the truth!
"You were right to trust your instincts, honey. She was telling the truth."
Arunika pulled Aoi into a large hug and exclaimed, "Always trust my gut!" To which her stomach rumbled in response causing Arunika to blush.
Aoi chuckled and said, "And to me, it sounds like your gut is calling for food. Let's pack up first then eat some rations."
The two quickly packed what belongings they had and got dressed before sitting down at the entrance of the cave to eat their measly breakfast. As the minutes passed and the boat grew closer, the two started hearing shouting and sounds of battle approaching.
"You have no where to run Eva! Turn yourself in peacefully and I may be lenient on the torture!"
"I'd rather jump into the abyss of hell than to willingly go with you, you narcissistic pervert!"
"Insubordination, running from the line of duty, espionage, attacking your fellow officers, and now insulting your commanding officer. Those are just a few of the charges being placed on you. Keep digging yourself into a hole "Specialist" Eva."
The two looked up from their cave towards the edge of the cliff after hearing the conversation between Eva and who they assume is the captain of the enforcement squad.
"We have to help her," whispered Arunika.
"I have two more people showing up on the cliff, Captain!"
"Oh, so this is where you hid the orphan and space mage, Eva. Too bad we caught you."
"Looks like we have to anyway, honey." Aoi created a wormhole between the entrance of the cave and top of the cliff and walked through with Arunika. "Well, well, well. Look at what we have here. A bunch of dicks bullying a cute girl. I think you should run along now if you don't want to be perforated or smashed into the ground."
Aoi created a gravity field with strength equal to Jupiter surrounding them from one cliff edge to the next flattening the grass and pulling a couple birds from the sky to smash into the ground, then a patch a shadow spikes emerged from the ground above the gravity field.
"You have no where to run. We'll see how you'll get out of this. Greyald! Go and climb around behind them on the cliff."
After hearing the captain say this, Aoi turned to glance at Arunika who nodded in return in silent communication. Her aura flared and created multiple vine and rock whips on the cliff's surface. "You'll have no chance to get around us."
Alonsis sneered in mocking contempt. "Heh, you think some measly plants are going to get in our way? We aren't the enforcement squad for nothing. We've never had an unsuccessful capture and you won't be our first." He walked around to the edge of the cliff and gravity field and unleashed icefire flame and burned away all the vines protruding from the cliff face. "You're too young. Come again in ten years if you think those measly vines will threaten us. Go now, Greyald."
"Yes, Captain," The one called Greyald responded and activated his magic to turn his metal boots and gloves into climbing equipment to start climbing around.
"It looks like this is going to be more difficult than I thought," Aoi said. She turned to Eva and Arunika and asked, "Do you two trust me?"
"Yes!" "Of Course, Aoi-chan!"
"Good, because this is going to be tough casting a wormhole to a moving target." Aoi turned around and focused on the boat. In a few short seconds a wormhole appeared below the cliff and through it you could see a boat deck. "Now follow me and jump!"
They grabbed each other's hands and jumped off the cliff, but not before Aoi turned around and gave a mocking smirk and said, "You're a thousand years too early to think you could catch us."
~~~~~~~~~~

"FUCK! His Majesty will have our heads if he found out we let a space mage escape the empire! We're going back to my father's territory to get a permit to chase after them. Our empire needs to get our hands on that mage for our plans for the empire."

Captain Alonsis Schulz stood there looking out at the ship doing an about face and heading into the distance. A fierce light flashed across his eyes. He was determined to see his mother land flourish and the Emperor needed her to push forth his plans. If they don't capture her then the Empire will not last and be doomed to ruin.
