Chapitre 9: The emergency call and the family reaction

As soon as they made it to his office and the door closed Robert asked Lee what was wrong. "Sir, we have a call from the police. There's been an accident, your niece has been taken by life flight to Grand Central hospital and the prognosis is not good." Mr.Lang handed the phone to Robert and he shakenly takes the call, "This is Robert Drake, whom am I speaking with?" He takes a deep breath to calm his mind down a bit, "this is detective Michaels from Grand Central police. I'm sorry to inform you that your niece Rogue has been inactive catastrophic car accident, sir I would strongly recommend that you come to the hospital immediately. From what we have seen she will need major surgery and since she is a minor they will need your permission." Detective Michaels hated making this kind of call but it's part of his job, he waits for a response and only hears Drake's breath and nothing else. "Mr.Drake are you there? Hello?" Robert is temporarily speechless and shaken before taking a hold of himself, "Why are you calling me and not my wife regarding this? I cannot leave my company at this moment we're in the middle of a major business deal." Mr.Lang is appalled and disappointed by his boss's comments but quickly masked his expression, he knew that the Drake family didn't really love the girl but she was still family and they were her legal guardians they should at least make sure that she was taken care of. "Mr.Drake, we called your wife first and she didn't answer our calls. As her guardian you must take care of her, we need you or your wife to come to the hospital or we will be forced to report the issue to Children Protective Services and they will assume custody of the child and any property that she owns will be managed by the government until she becomes legal age." Detective Michaels knew that as soon as he told the girl's uncle the consequences, he would reluctantly take care of the matter. He couldn't believe what he heard out of Mr.Drakes mouth, it completely shocked him and it infuriated him how that poor kid was treated as a bother by her kin. Robert told the detective he would take care of the problem and hung up. He grabbed his cellphone and called his wife, when she didn't answer, he called her assistant Melinda. "Melinda, this is Mr.Drake where is my wife? I'm calling her and she is not picking up the call." "Mr.Drake, Mrs.Drake is at the spa getting a treatment and her phone was turned off so she wouldn't be interrupted. How can I help you?" "Damn it. Go and get my wife on the phone this is an emergency." "Yes Sir, one moment please." "Madam, I'm sorry to bother you but your husband is on the phone and says that it's an emergency." Melinda apprehensively approached her boss, she knew she would be furious with her for bothering her but she had no choice but to bother her. Caroline waved away the masseuse and took the cell and pettishly said "darling it better be an emergency for you to interrupt my weekly massage, what is the matter?" Malcolm sneered at the phone, "I wouldn't be interrupting you if it wasn't an emergency. I just got a phone call from the police there has been a car accident.." Caroline panicked thinking that her children were hurt, "Oh my god are the kids okay? What happened, where are they at the hospital" "Calm down Caroline, its not the kids, Rogue was the one that was hurt." "The brat was hurt? Why are you calling me for then?" Caroline callously laid back down on the massage table, "Caroline, I know you don't care at all for Rogue but she is my brother's only child. It sounds like you completely forgotten that she is the real owner of Drake enterprises?"
