Chapitre 5: Chapter 5: A few explanations.
The sun had just risen, and faint rays of light passed through the windows and lit up the room.
The walls were painted in white, the room was empty. Except in one corner where a double bed was located.
Inside a child lay unconscious, his long, ash-red hair was soaked with sweat, his eyebrows were furrowed and he mumbled. "Mother... I will... avenge... you"
This child was Prometheus who had been asleep for 10 days, he had been taken in by a mysterious benefactor. Who had provided him a place to rest.
Ten days had passed since then but Prometheus remained unconscious, his wounds were too serious.
But strangely this morning, Prometheus was struggling in his bed and talking in his sleep. It was a good sign that he was getting better, he could wake up at any moment.
Suddenly Prometheus's eyes opened and flames came out of his eyes, but soon they were extinguished, and Prometheus was struck by a headache.
"Damn, it wasn't a dream". Prometheus stayed a few minutes holding his head until the pain passed. Then he started looking around.
"Where am I? " He was in an unknown room he'd never seen even in his former life. Prometheus scratched the back of his head.
"I'm in a white bed in a white room, my body has been washed and my clothes changed,"
He kept quiet for a few seconds. "That meant someone saved me, but who?"
Prometheus thought for a few minutes before talking again " But there is more important... that bastard, who dared to take advantage of my mother. "
Prometheus close his fists. "I didn't kill him... I didn't have the strength, but I'm going to find him and kill all the people close to him. Then I'll take care of the one they call the Red King."
Prometheus fell silent as if he'd just remembered something. He closed his eyes and didn't move for 15 minutes. He was using a rank 0 spell to check the state of his mana brain.
then he opened his eyes again. "fuck... I hurt my mana brain again."
Prometheus put his hands on his faces. "Calm down." he slowed his breathing, and tried to regain the cold and distant air he normally took. Prometheus was what was called an emotionally unstable person.
Early in his childhood Prometheus was a joyful and hopeful little boy until the death of his mother, which was a traumatic moment for him, as if his world was collapsing.
From that moment on Prometheus began to be cold and distant with others to avoid becoming attached to them.
It was only later when his mentor Kang Lie was murdered that Prometheus totally changed, he lost all confidence in humanity and the desire for revenge began to grow in his heart, to the point where he began to practice sacrificial magic.
This cold and distant behavior was only the fruit of his past which had led him to distrust others and never become attached to them for fear of losing them.
Prometheus had often dreamed of living a simple life away from magic and revenge, but he knew that this was impossible, for as long as he was alive the Landcasters would do everything in their power to destroy him.
Prometheus whispered."You know how to heal this wound".
He tried to get his mind back, to get his mother and his mysterious benefactor out of his head to concentrate on the present situation, he had to heal his mana brain and as soon as possible.
The mana brain was the main weapon of the magus, without it Prometheus was just a regular person, if not worse.
In his world every child was born with a mana core. A mana core attracted and stored mana permanently, without the possessor does anything.
It was thanks to the mana core that regular people were able to do rank 0 spells, the mana core gave them sufficient mana reserves, and they only had to make gestures and fields to use the mana in the way they wanted.
Normally nobody was born with a mana brain, the mana brain was a creation of the first magus.
To get it, the mana core needed to migrate into the brain, which then fused together.
To be more precise it was necessary to migrate the mana core to areas 6 and 4 of the brain, also called the primary motor cortex, which were used to move the body.
After the migration and fusion of the mana core with the brain the magus was able to execute spells by thinking.
But making the mana core migrate was dangerous and difficult. Failure in migrating of a mana core could have serious consequences.
Even after the migration of the mana core it took some time of adaptation and training before the mana brain was under control, also a weak mana brain had a high chance of injury, which was the case with Prometheus.
Moreover to execute a spell a magus could no longer make stupid incantations, he had to understand and know perfectly the spell he execute, a miscalculation or a wrong thought could do a lot of damage.
But what could be more normal, any advantage comes with its disadvantages.
There were also other variants of the mana core and the mana brain was only one of them.
There was for example the mana heart used by warriors, the mana eyes used by scouts or trackers and other variants. But the most famous was the legendary mana body which was the fusion of all these skills.
According to the legends the mana body was the power of the kings. But in reality the mana body was an extremely rare anomaly that usually killed the carriers before the age of 50.
Despite his wound Prometheus was not desperate, on the contrary during his previous life he had done research to cure his mana brain wound, potion, spell, he had found many ways to warn this wound, but currently he could only use one.
A spell of rank 0 which allowed to restore the mana brain of Prometheus up to 50% of its capacity.
In his previous life Prometheus also possessed only 50% of his mana brain capacity, which was enough to defeat many enemies.
But that wasn't all he also knew about a potion that could restore 20% of his mana brain's capacity. But Prometheus had to consume it within the next 3 years and at the moment he didn't have the necessary ingredients.
Prometheus closed his eyes and began to make the incantation necessary to do his rank 0 spell
(PS: very important everyone regardless of the specialization of the mana people are able to use rank 0 magic but sometimes the incantation for the same spell varies).
Prometheus stayed lying with his eyes closed for 2 hours while he was doing his rank 0 spell, suddenly a bell rang 12 times, it meant it was noon.
Prometheus opened his eyes and heard the sound of pats coming from the corridor.
Suddenly a door opened and a woman dressed as a maid entered into the room. She looked at Prometheus who was awake, she look surprise for a few seconds.
Then, as if it was nothing, she looked away from Prometheus and walked towards the bedside table which was next to Prometheus' bed.
She put an plate on, on it there was bread, a chicken soup, and a milkglass.
The woman looked at Prometheus again, "Seeing that you are finally awake, you will be able to eat."
The woman's face did not change, she remained cold and austere. The maid turned around and began to walk away.
But Prometheus asked her, "Wait, who do I thank for this help and this meal?" The maid did not turn around and answered nonchalantly,
"When you get better you will meet the master. Now eat."
Prometheus didn't wait and grabbed the plate, he was so hungry. Ten days ago he was skinned on the bones, now it was even worse. Prometheus was in a deplorable state, if no one helped him he would not even be able to walk by himself.
Prometheus started chewing the bread, it was so good crunchy and warm, like the bread you buy early in the morning. (Yes I am French;))
Then he dipped it in the soup which made the bread soft and tender, at the same time he felt a sweet chicken and spicy flavor, then Prometheus caught the glass of milk and drank a good gulp, it was fresh and tasty, Prometheus fell pleasure he was so hungry.
In a few minutes Prometheus finished his meal. Prometheus felt his eyes becoming lordly, and before he knew it he fell asleep. Prometheus' body was still fragile, he would need a lot of rest and a good meal to recover.
And while our hero takes a nap, let me explain a few things. Like why our young hero has a mana brain, what is a magus family and what mean the rank of archimage.
Let's start with magus families. Magus families are comparable to noble families, with one difference. The nobles pass on a title to members of their families who earn money and influence thanks that title. Whereas Magus families pass on an innate skill.
Each magus family distinguishes itself through its innate skill which is necessarily unique and linked to magic. And between the magus families there are ranks as there are ranks between the noble families.
A baron is inferior to a count, which is inferior to a marquis who is himself inferior to a duke. The same kind of social pyramid exists among magus families but it is smaller.
At the very bottom there are the minor magus families, above the medium magus families, then the major magus families, and finally at the top the capital magus families which are 4 in the kingdom of Beerkeley.
In general, the usefulness and power of innate skill give the magus family its importance. But sometimes the innate skill can mutate, which is normal since innate skill is a mutation at the origin.
In this case, the family of Prometheus was a middle-ranking Magus family, whose innate skill was to possess a mana brain from birth. Which in reality was not a very useful skill for a magus.
The family of Prometheus was only a middle-ranking Magus family because of the military exploits of Prometheus' father.
Now that everything's a little clearer, let's talk about rank among the Magus. There are 6 ranks that classify the power of the magus and 4 ranks that classify the social status.
At first there are the normal people who had a mana core at birth. The magus call them sorcerers, they represent 95% of the population and are divided into 3 classes.
First are the rank 1 sorcerers, they are able to control a small amount of mana and can summon the basic elements. Earth-fire, Light-shadow, Ice-ary, they usually represent 70% of the population.
(PS: The elements that are linked by a - cannot be used at the same time, they are incompatible, fire consumes matter, earth creates it, light illuminates, shadow darkens, ice slows down matter, wind speeds it up)
Then there are the rank 2 sorceres, they too can invoke the basic elements but they can do it in double castings, they represent 20% of the population.
(example fire and light at the same time ice and shadows...)
Then there are the rank 3 sorcerers who are capable of triple castings as well as executing rank 0 spells.
To make a spell of rank 0 you need to be able to control several elements at the same time and triple casting is just the beginning, some talented spellers can even do exa casting or more. Rank 3 sorcerers represent 5% of the population.
In general a level 3 sorcerer is a person who had the potential to become a magus but who chose to specializing his mana core in another part of his body.
(Example: the hand to become an maker of an enchanted weapon or magic scroll.)
Sorcerer is a very vague word that only magus use to refer to all people who do not possess a mana brain.
For magus there are actually two types of titles, titles of power as mage and titles of nobility as magus. The classification system of power is in 6 grades and of nobility in 4. Let us also specify that sometimes the title of nobility is the same as the title of power.
the first title magus apprentice, which designates a social rank as well as a minimum level of power to be achieved. A magus apprentice must be able to cast rank 1 spells as well as create 5 spells.
Generally magus apprentice is a rank that students in a magus school must reach before their fifth year of study if they want to graduate and obtain the official title of magus apprentice.
In most cases, magus apprentices represent 60% of the mana brain owners.
(You will notice that you must first reach the power level to obtain the title of nobility in this case).
After obtaining his title and his diploma, the magus apprentice will have several choices, continue his magic studies with a specialization in a higher school of magic, or train with a mentor or joining the army, sometimes even training on his own. After 2 years all magus apprentices are forced to pass an exam that will determine if they deserve the title of magus.
Usually only those who have obtained the magus title are able to rise through the ranks and obtain the wizard title, to obtain the wizard title you need to be able to cast rank 2 spells. Wizard represent 30% of mana brain owners.
Next comes the magician title, magicians must be able to perform and create rank 3 spells, in addition they can bond with a familiar that is either an object or an animal. Mages represent 9,9999... % of mana brain owners. Mages are generally respected people in society who play important roles in magical society
( example: Teacher of magic, general of magic commando, SS adventurer, S- rank state police officer, etc.)
Then comes the title of archimage, archimages are rare and feared, they exist only a few and are rarely seen, even a duke cannot afford to despise them.
Not much information circulates about archimages and it is therefore difficult to know how to reach this rank of power but it would seem that archimages are capable of performing rank 4 exits.
(In general the leaders of major magus families, or director of a schools of magic are archimages but not all the time).
Above the rank of Archmage there is the title of Wizard King.This rank is more of an honorary title than a title of magical power because there are no spells above rank 4.
Wizard kings are usually people so powerful and influential that they can compare themselves to a king, to reach this rank it is no longer a question of power alone.
Wizard kings have powerful subordinate armies and strong reputations. Their numbers can be counted on the fingers.
(PS: An emperor mage is stronger than an arch-mage in 1 vs 1 in general but not necessarily, it's a question of experience and talent).
Then there is the rank of Emperor magus. The Emperor magus is a terrifying and legendary existence. According to his legend, the emperor-magus was the chosen one by god.
The Emperor Magus is said to have received a ring from God that gave him divine powers. The Emperor Mage is the only living being able to make spells of divine level. The legend says that he could even defeat God.
However, the apparition of a Mage Emperor is so rare that the last Mage Emperor Merlin died 1000 years ago and his ring disappeared with him. But legend says that the Mage Emperor's ring never stopped looking for a successor and that one day he would find one.
