Chapitre 90: Chapter 90

Kelderian reeled back as if hit in the face.

"You do realize this means war, right?" he asked the screen as he saw the Superstore steal his sale of a Legendary Creature egg right from under his nose.

One of those things cost as much as ten swords, and the Superstore yanked that sale from him, just like that, thus his anger was warranted.

"Well, this wasn't a particularly dirty trick," a staff member commented.

"What do you mean?"

"We used the trick first, right? Give him the requirements for Diamond Label?"

The employee had a point: after all, the only thing the Superstore did was open the Superstore Custom and give Jake the criteria for VIP access.

"What did you just say?"

The employee quickly shut up.

"If I say it's dirty, then it's dirty! Enough with the back-talk!" Kelderian shouted, forcing the employee to apologize.

As soon as his staff member bowed, Kelderian deflated onto his seat and let out a sigh.

The Superstore appearing on the scene had him on his toes constantly.

And then the staff member who apologized suddenly had a flash of insight.

"Director."

"What is it this time?"

"Well, since Mr. Smithson bought a Legendary Creature, he's going to have to feed and take care of it, right?"

"Yes, so?"

"Legendary Creatures have very specific tastes in food. Why don't we start an event selling products for Legendary Creatures, then?"

This employee may be tactless, but he had some great ideas.

'He's a clever guy but has all the subtlety of a bull in a china shop,' Kelderian thought. 'He does have a good eye for the business, though.'

"I was thinking about that at the same time as you did. After all, great minds think alike," he replied, pretending not to be surprised by the idea.

"That's absolutely true."

"Then what's that look on your face for?"

"What's on my face?"

"Never mind, let's get this event on the road!"

"Shoe-ping."

"What's wrong? What's the problem?"

"Shoe… ping."

Jake found Noa strange; it didn't listen.

'Pretty sure this Legendary Creature understands what its master says. Wonder why I can't make you form a party, though?'

"Noa, is there anything you don't like? What's wrong? Can you tell me?" Jake asked, his extremely solicitous attitude towards his new pet a contrast to his previous demeanor.

"Shoe…"

Noa's answer was only a powerless cry; right then and there, Jake realized what was up.

"You're hungry, huh? Yeah, you must be!"

'A feeble cry -- it must be hungry! Wait a minute, what do I have to feed you? Damn it, why didn't I check out what legendary creatures liked to eat? Monster meat, pizza, chicken, ramen… what?'

And then a notification conveniently appeared before him.

[Dear customer,

Your new Legendary Creature won't just eat or wear anything.

For customers who have never raised a creature like this before, we've prepared a "Novice Legendary Creature Masters!" event: please check it out at the store!]

'Just in time.'

The notification came just in time for Jake, an event that fit his needs and that of his new Legendary Creature.

'Diamond Label?' Jake thought, confused – as it turned out that the Awakening Store's Diamond Label was the one selling products for Legendary Creatures.

"Shoe-ping! Shoe-ping!"

"Someone's excited!" Jake said with a smile as he saw his pet look at the Diamond Label and back to him with eyes glistening. "All right, let's give it shot! Let me tell you, you just found the best master around, Noa!"

"Shoe-ping!"

"Wow, how many of these are all there?"

"Just enough," Jake answered as he was currently surrounded by boxes, a wide smile on his face.

It had been a long time since he had purchased this much.

"You could swim in those packages if you wanted, you know."

"I know, right? Sweet dreams are made of these."

Jake knew what was in those delivery boxes, which is why he never had any expectation regarding the items: all of these were for Noa, anyway.

Still, though, the feeling of opening new boxes is like a drug that Jake was addicted to.

"What are all these things you bought?" Liam and Song asked, curious about what all the boxes and packages were.

They already knew that Jake had this habit of buying things that blew people's minds. The Legendary Creature, was one such example, as only a handful of awakeners in Nohas had them.

While the Hunters' Guild raises monsters, they are nowhere near the level of Legendary Creatures, due to the rarity by which one can find such an item within Nohas proper.

"Necessities… for Noa," Jake answered.

"You mean you bought all of these for Noa?" Liam asked, agitated and surprised at the number of packages around Jake.

"Yes, I went shopping and found a lot of things that she needed," Jake answered calmly, the shopper's high still on him after spending the points he gained hunting monsters in this way.

Noa is probably the luckiest Legendary Creature in Nohas, thanks to her shopping-obsessed master.

Liam just shook his head.

"You really are a piece of work."

"Damn right," Jake said, replying to Liam after he heard his friend sigh.

"Now," he continued, turning to Noa, "shall we open these one at a time?"

"Shoe-ping!"

"That's the spirit!"

The first event to be held on the Diamond Label of the Awakening Store is the "Novice Legendary Creature Masters!" event, where a wide variety of items from designer brans were sold throughout the event.

From food to medicine to grooming amenities, all of them were of top quality and costed top dollar… or points, as the case may be here.

'A portable pet bathtub that makes water with the user's mana! This sounds convenient. And that brand name! Oh boy.'

Jake had just looked through the Legendary Creature dental care line and saw that even the toothpaste was from a luxury brand.

"You seem like you're enjoying yourself," Jake said as he saw Noa having fun in the portable tub. "You like bathing, huh?"

Noa nodded.

'So, you like water, huh? Interesting.'

Several minutes later, Noa had jumped from the tub and went over to Jake, who was preparing a great deal of legendary creature food for her: sirloin steak from the Mad Cow and sashimi from the Dragon Fish.

Imagine feeding your pet something like prime Wagyu Steak.

That was the quality of food Jake was preparing; at the sight of it, Noa went to her food with a happy "Shoe-ping!" and started digging in.

Once she was done, Noa had now begun to sound livelier, and made her way to a "Legendary Creature tree" – something that looked like a cat's climbing tree, but was larger, more complex, and could be shrunk so Jake could stash it in his inventory.

As to what would happen if Noa ended up outgrowing the climbing tree? Jake didn't care.

'Why did I buy this again? Never mind. I buy things out of want, not need.'

Once he was sure that Noa was good to go, he established a schedule to get Noa fed and bathed, and was now busy buying things that would help him in turn.

Not too long after that, Jake was now confident that Noa would be okay starting a party.

"All right, Noa, let's make a party!"

"Shoe-ping! Noa cried cutely, and a party was formed successfully.

[You have successfully organized a party. As the party leader, do you want to invite other members?]

'Great! It's like a party system in those online games! Well, I only got Noa to help form the party… Let's get to inviting!'

[The maximum number of people you can invite is 10.]

'All right, ten people, excluding me. Seems Noa's limit right now is 10. Now… how do I invite others?'

[If you look directly at the people and express your intention to invite him, an invitation letter will be sent.]

Seeing that the invitation method was very simple and clear, Jake started to send out invitations.

"Whoa, what is this?"

"What's this strange screen?"

Everyone around him reacted with confusion, until Jake's voice carried over the noise.

"I had Noa here make a party. Accept my invitation," he declared, and gave them a rough run-down of what was going on.

A few moments later, Jake saw the screen pop up.

[Party leader: Jake

Party Member 1 - Liam

Party member 2 - Song

Party member 3 - Miguel

Party Member 4 - Edgar

Party member 5 - Kroose

...

...

Party member 10 - Walker]

'Well, now. I'm up to 11 members,' Jake thought, 'if I include myself. Can't include everyone, though. Still, Party Formation is a skill that can gain levels – as it increases, I can add more members to the party.'

There are also other changes to the party that Jake had yet to discover, but Jake had a good guess that he could add more members as the level of this skill increased.

'Anyway, this skill is quite interesting,' Jake thought, carefully looking through the screens containing the status of his party. 'I can see their stamina, mana, and damage level.'

So far, Jake has fought numerous battles.

If you started with the ones Jake went through after he was summoned to Nohas, there were still quite a lot of them he had to go through.

You could say he has good luck in fighting, but as Jake always believed in, he has to fight to make money.

Monsters in the tutorial area, and fellow awakeners now, all of them were merely opportunities for him to gain points.

He found himself teaming up with Liam as his stay in Nohas went on, and while he was making good teamwork with Liam, there was still that something missing.

Now, though, he doesn't have to worry about that anymore.

With his ability to see how others are, he can now control the battlefield much better.

'This is great. Time to move onto the next one. Now that I've seen what the party creation skill can do, it's time to move onto testing out Noa's Encouragement Buff.'

"Let's see what the Encouragement Buff does, Noa! You up to it?"

"Shoe-ping!"
