"I don't," Liu Nuan denied it outright. "Who is he?"

She didn't back off, "I don't know. Why are you asking me? How would I know him?"

"So you're not the one who hired the mercenaries through this man?" Xiao Li's voice was chilly, now tinged with a furious undertone. "To kill Xiu."

Liu Nuan was scared out of her wits but she didn't accept defeat. She knew if she did, it'd be the end of her.

"W-Why would I hire someone to kill Xiu?" she retorted. "Don't try to blame me for something I didn't do. The attack on Xiu has nothing to do with me."
