Chapitre 17: THE PAST COMES KNOCKING ON THE DOOR

The Han Mansion.

The living room completely perished. All the valuable vases and showpieces lied on the floor broken into a thousand parts. Mrs. Han stood in the middle of the mess in her angry state. She had pulled many strings to get into this rich family but now everything was ruined. She felt desolated and wasted.

After a while, the door opened and a petite figure walked in. Jia stopped in her tracks as she saw the messed-up living room. She spotted a person who was curled into a ball in a corner. She carefully walked into the room with the fear of getting hurt by the small glass fragments. She stood in front of her mother and looked into her reddened eyes. It looked like she had cried for a long time.

"Mom…." Jia said as she felt sympathetic for the woman. The woman raised her head to trace out the blurry face of her daughter.

"Jia… Jia….." Mrs. Han called out as she hugged her daughter. She felt relieved and tears started flowing from her eyes.

Jia comforted her mother and asked the servants to clean up the room. Jia helped her mother sit on the couch. She felt sad and disheartening to see her mother in this state. The last time her mother cried her eyes was when her father fought with her on some matter. She was barely four and did not remember a lot. There was just a vague memory of a woman crying and a man shouting at her mercilessly.

After her mother had calmed down, Jia passed a glass of water to her and asked in a low voice, "are you fine? Had another fight with dad?" Jia was already aware of the company's situation as it was all over the internet. She was worried about it but was sure that there would be a solution after all Jessica was the fiancee of Steve.

"It's all that Jessica's fault. She did not lend any hand to the company and now when we are bankrupt she is nowhere to be found. If not for her and her mother I would have been the mistress a long time ago. You would have been born into a loving family. She is a bad omen for us. Today your father defended her… I just so hate them." Mrs. Han was filled with anger.

On the mention of the past, Jia's eyes turned cold. She was an illegitimate child born and grown with no love or care. Even when she entered the family legally she still had to face the disgusting looks given to her by the people. She was jealous of Jessica who was loved and cared for after and before her birth, while she was always left alone.

**Flashback**

The nurse passed a wrapped-up baby to the woman as she smiled brightly, "Congratulations, it's a girl." Hearing the word 'girl' the woman's eyes turned dark.

"How could it be a girl. It should be a boy. It's not right. The man would not accept me in his family." The woman shouted like a mad person as she tried to push her baby on the floor.

The woman finally calmed down after giving a few sleeping doses. The hospital staff was shocked. They had seen many patients who killed their child just because of it being a girl. But this situation was extreme as the mother of the child herself attacked the child in an attempt to kill it.

This child was no one else but Jia. The child grew up to be a beauty like her mother. She had good grades in the early school years, but soon her marks started to decrease and the child turned lonely.

After the birth, she left her child to her mother to look after. She would frequently go to bars and when she returned she would curse her daughter for even being born. This dispirited the child and her heart yearned for love from her mother, which she received only after her becoming the official heir of her father's property.

Jia was not aware of her mother being a mistress to her biological father and not even about her father's official daughter. Once in her drunk state Jia's mother showed her the heir of the Han family and said it was her father. Beside him stood a beautiful lady and a timid little girl hugged the lady's arm as the man looked lovingly at them. The loving gaze pierced through the heart of Jia. She felt even more lonely and hurt as her heart bleed.

The day she saw the loving family a seed of hatred grew in her heart for the girl. As she grew up the seed grew more and more with the child's hatred. She wanted to snatch away everything from Jessica. She wanted the care and love she received.

Once she got the chance to meet the woman who was the perfect loving mother for Jessica. Jia saw the woman getting in her car and a scheme came to her mind. She ran up to the car and let the car hit her. She fainted on the spot with a bleeding head. Jessica's mother was a kind lady and took the small girl to the hospital.

After she woke up she tried continuously to gain the favor of Jessica's mom. She stayed in the hospital accompanied by the doctors for about a week. In the following days, Jessica and her mother would always visit her and ask about her family, to which she replied with silence.

Thinking that the child was orphaned Jessica's mother decided to take her in. The day she took Jia home, Jia's mother came and forced the little girl into their home. Jessica's mother didn't attempt to stop the lady from taking the child away, she was well aware of the affection a mother feels for a child. She was not aware of the brutal treatment Jia received after that.

Many days passed, Jessica's mother accompanied Jessica to distribute some food and articles of clothing to the poor in the name of charity. That day Jessica had just turned ten and was beautifully dressed in a princess-styled dress.

A black Bentley drove into the small ally. All the people gathered around the expensive car as the mother-daughter duo stepped out of the car. The mother was extremely beautiful and had a gentle smile on her face. The little girl was as sweet and gentle as her mother as she followed in her footsteps.

Jia was sitting in the row for some food. She had been hungry for days as her mother didn't let her even see the food. When she heard that a rich lady was going to distribute food and clothes she used them over. Her face was frighteningly pale.

Jessica's mother passed down the items carefully to the children and her smile grew wider as she saw the happy expressions on the face of the children. Suddenly her smile disappeared. She intensely stared at the pale and lifeless girl. It was the same girl who was taken away from the hospital.

She turned around to face her servants and asked them to take the girl with them in the car. The servants did as they were told to do and very carefully picked the girl and placed her in the car as if she was some precious treasure.

After distributing all the items Jessica and her mother took Jia to the hospital. There Jia was kept in observation for a few days as Jessica's mother urged her husband to take in the girl. Her husband was a little hesitant at first but soon agreed.

After a week at the hospital, Jia was bought to the Han Mansion. She soon won the hearts of her father and new mother. She wanted to totally replace Jessica's position in their heart. She was well protected by the Han Family for the following years, but she was still afraid of losing the happiness she had just received.

And her insecurities were confirmed on a stormy night… When she lost many things but also gained some painful memories.
