Chapitre 101: The Gauntlet

"Ah! Arthur! My favourite material provider! Gyahahaha!" Professor Mulberry began to laugh an uproarious laugh that seemed to make the entire forge are vibrate whilst the assistants and students who were working on their weapons all flinched at the sound.

"I have literally only given you a single kilo of that stuff" Arthur chuckled

"Aye! And its bloody amazing! I got the new forge done last night and have been playing around with the stuff since! Gyahahaha!" Harold just couldn't keep his voice in due to his excitement, which somehow fitted his form to a T.

He was a tall man, about 6'8 tall, extremely broad and muscular shoulders, a short beard which always seemed to be on fire, shoulder length hair held back in a ponytail. His face was also very square with sharp edges everywhere as he had moulded himself out of clay, an eternal smile on his face which only got wider when he worked to the point his teeth would show and dark forge tanned skin.

More often than not Harold would be found wearing a vest short, baggy pants and a leather apron, as well as welding goggles seeming glued to the top of his head, only coming off when he needed to cover his eyes.

"Quite the metal it is! I mean, look at this beauty!" He pulled an item off his workbench and held it up to Arthur, "Just look at it! I didn't even need to polish it! The soot and slag just fell off! It's the perfect metal!"

Arthur inspected the item or well, armour piece in front of him, it was a gauntlet a left handed one, long enough to go up to halfway up Arthur's forearm. The gauntlet was made up of numerous small plates along the fingers as well as two larger plates going down the wrist to keep it flexible.

The plates only looked to cover the top half of the arm and were riveted onto a black leather glove with small black pieces of metal and a leather strap at the end of the last plate on the fore arm to tighten around the arm to prevent it from coming off.

Most interestingly though was the small, circular vial socketed into the back of the hand that was filled with a black powder which also had a slight purple hue to it, constrasting against the nearly pure white gauntlet which only had a bit of red mixed in, in the form of small veins running across the entire piece.

"I have hit this thing with the power hammer for three hours straight! All I did was dent the damn thing again!" Harold growled giving one last look to the gauntlet before grinning widely "Catch!" he shouted throwing the gauntlet at Arthur.

Arthur flinched and raised his hand up grabbing the gauntlet by the wrist, staring between it and professor Mulberry.

"I ain't giving it to you for free kid! I need someone to test that out, I decided to try something new and incorporated some gravity dust into the thing, that's the small vial on the hand if you're to blind to see that"

Arthur didn't even get to respond as Ruby bolted out the back forge area, bags under her eyes, hair and her dress a mess all covered in soot, yet still looking as excited and happy as ever, "It melted! Professor! It melted!" she shouted jumping around in a circle as professor Mulberry began to laugh even harder.

"Gyahahaha! Finally! How hot's the forge at now?" He quickly walked over to Ruby, leaving Arthur still silently staring at the gauntlet.

Arthur soon gave a snort and chuckled as he unfastened the strap, forcing his hand into the glove, and bent his fingers to make a fist as well as splaying them out just to test the flexibility before fastening the belt again. As he bent his fingers he could see that each of the different small segmented plates along the fingers ended in a point, eventually ending just before the tip of his finger leaving it open and showing the black glove underneath.

Holding the glove up to his face Arthur continued to inspect the incredibly impeccable piece of work, his right fist rapping against the metal only getting a slight reverb and 'ting' sound in the process. His eyes also trailing over the small red veins similar to what he saw on the grimm egg in his room.

"Aye, I have no idea how this metal does it, but it got those weird veiny thingies when it cooled" Harold explained coming up to Arthur, hand strocking his beard as he inspected the gauntlet on Arthur, a smile forming on his face in the process, "Perfect, fits like a charm!" he cackled.

"Oh, I want one" Ruby's eyes began to sparkle as she jumped and grabbed Arthur's hand looking it all over, "Activate it! Activaaattteeee iiiitttt!" She pleaded, doing her best puppy dog expression.

Arthur had sort of given up on being able to get a word in, and simply chuckled at Ruby's excitement, soon giving a glance to professor Mulberry to ask how.

"Oh, right, you should only need to focus your aura into the dust and then you should be able to use it like normal" He explained.

"Right, simple enough, you have anywhere to test it?" he asked, not wanting to disturb the other students who were beginning to get frustrated by the professors loudness as some were ruffling their hair having accidentally dented or even cut a gouge into their weaponry.

"Aye, follow me, you can use the testing range" Professor Mulberry said and began to walk across the forge to another room, Arthur following behind him whilst Ruby happily hung on his arm.

"Here you go" Mulberry said, as Arthur began to look around the room which looked like a gun range on one side while the other had various dummies standing in the field, "No real reason to use the gun range, just type in how many dummy's you want and enter the field"

"Got it" Arthur replied, and pressed [2] on the touchpad infront of the field causing two beowolf shaped dummies to appear in the centre of the field.

"Hardlight dust?" he muttered seeing the similarity to Velvet's own dust as the Beowolf looked like wireframe versions of themselves, also completely inanimate, nothing like Pit's robots which could still move about just a lot more janky than actual grimm.

"Test it! Test it!" Ruby kept chanting as she jumped up and down on the edge of the field.

Arthur shook his head unable to keep a smile from forming on his face at her antics. Soon raising his hand in front of himself pointing his palm at one of the hard light dummy's, his aura beginning to manifest on the gauntlet trailing down it until it entered the small cylinder of gravity dust.

He also noticed that the veins on the gauntlet also began to shine ever so slightly and began to squirm and wriggle moving about the gauntlet, changing their form, but he instead opted to continue the test of the gauntlet as he pushed the gravity dust towards his palm, his arm realing backwards before quickly launching forward towards the hardlight dummy causing a burst of dark energy to come from his hand that sent a shockwave towards the dummy, launching it backwards, whilst leaving Arthur remaining in the same position, arm outstretched forward.

"Yes! That's what I'm talking about!" Mulberry cheered, "Gyahahaha!"he began to happily laugh as he grabbed Ruby into a bear hug causing her to squeak like a squeaky toy as the professor forced all the air out of her lungs.

Arthur straightened his body starring at the dummy that had been launched across the field out of the way of the hard light projectors causing it to quickly dissipate, his eyes too travelling to the back of his hand seeing the dust in the cylinder had decreased by about fifty percent.

"How much you use!?" Harold called out.

"About fifty percent it looks like" Arthur replied.

"Right, here!" Harold dug in one of the pouches hanging on his hip pulling out a small cylinder similar to the one in the gauntlet, throwing it toward Arthur who caught it with his left hand holding it up in front of him seeing it was also filled with gravity dust.

"Swap them out, and go full power! And don't leave any space, actually hit the damn dummy!" He grinned sending more tremors through the room, which didn't stop with just the room as it travelled to the students near the door to the test range.

Arthur quickly flipped his hand around inspecting the cylinder seeing two small clips on either side of it, "you just pull it kid! Nothing else!" Harold interrupted. Shrugging Arthur grasped the edges of the cylinder pulling it out and swapping it with the filled vial, his eyes also trailing over the incredibly pale red shape beginning to form on the gauntlet.

Once he was done another hardlight beowolf appeared in the place of the one he had knocked out of the field, looking between the two grimm Arthur came up with an idea, a grin forming on his face as he clenched his fist tight, the sound of the leather glove rubbing against itself coming from his hand.

Walking to just infront of the two grimm Arthur opened his legs, stabilizing himself on the ground his body leaning forward as he threw his arm back, aura beginning to control the dust into his fingers and knuckels.

"Oh, this is going to be good" Harold chuckled as Ruby also began to sparkle once again as she realized what he was about to do.

Arthur took a deep breath, as he threw his arm even further up before slamming it down as hard as he could against the ground, somehow imagining a giant red fist taking the place of his own and moving at a super slow speed as he seriously punched the ground.

As soon as his fist hit the ground the earth around him shattered and began to compress into a small crater as a shockwave appeared around him sending the two hardlight constructs flying, impacting with the back wall, whilst Ruby quickly grabbed professor Mulberry to keep herself from being blown away, the professor seeming unaffected by the shockwave. His goggles having fallen over his eyes to prevent the cloud of dust entering his eyes.

The dust soon dissipating enough to see only a small crater with Arthur nowhere in sight.

"Arthur?" Ruby muttered in confusion her head tilting to the side.

"…" Arthur was silent as he stared down towards the massive building of Beacon he was currently flying straight up from, surprisingly not panicking at his current predicament.

"Note to self, take physics into account when punching stuff with this" he muttered as he spread his arms and legs to increase his surface and slow his assent and soon approaching descent.

"Never ignore Newton Arthur, never ignore Newton" he muttered.

"… Is… Is that Arthur?" Blake muttered staring through the window of the dorm room at the falling figure, Yang and Weiss also moving next to the window, both also seeing the figure.

"How did he?" Weiss muttered

"I have no idea but that looks like so much fun" Yang began to laugh.
