Chapitre 5: Chapter 3.5 (Reiji's Perspective)

I eagerly took the sword and ran west of Blackbay where father and I would go hunting for meat from time to time. It was dark so I had to be careful where he ran to. Father always said that when at a decent distance from the village; I should always look for tracks and patiently follow them until he found the animal. I searched and searched to no avail. I realized I had to switch tactics, If I could not find any animal, I'll have to wait for it to come to me. I scavenged for fruit and wild nuts. I peeled nuts and cut the fruits to bring out the enticing smell and placed them in a 20 metre intervals in the upwind direction then stalked the trap in one of the high trees which was ways away so that the animals would not catch my scent. I enhanced my eyesight so that I could see farther. I waited for hours until the sun eventually started to come up. I could feel the exhaustion beginning to sink in as I was about to dose off. Then I heard it; a deer fell into the trap I had set. As it was eating the fruit, I concentrated my magic toward my legs until I could not anymore then leapt. I shot in the air so fast that I only had enough time to draw the sword old man Fujikawa gave to me. I could feel the wind burn on my cheeks. The sword whistled with the wind as it was drawn but by the time the deer heard it I had already cut it. I flipped and landed on my knee facing the deer. I was still in motion so I had to stab the sword into the ground. The sword dug the ground until I came to a halt. I stood up amazed at how far I could jump. That was at least a kilometer!

There was dust everywhere because of my landing so I kept on high alert. When I got to the deer, it was still alive but barely. Then I looked into its eyes and I felt the life drain out of me. I had actually done this. I thought it was a simple task but taking a life is not as simple as they portrayed it to be in books. I felt a crushing guilt and I felt something tugging in my stomach then it came rushing out of my mouth. After I felt a bit better, I picked up the shinken (a katana used in sword related practice) but it felt so heavy. Right there and then I understood what the old man meant when he said that the sword could be a heavy weapon, even for the strong. I braced myself and tightened my grip and looked at the deer. I knew if I looked away, I would never be able to pick up a sword again. I looked at it in the eye again and knew that I had to help it out of the misery I had caused it. Then I stabbed it where the heart was and ended its suffering. If this was the price I had to pay to someday to see my sister and probably my mother, I would have to try by all means to avoid it. The end can never justify the means. It dawned to me that in the world, a line between good and evil could easily be blurred. I picked up the deer with both my arms and slung it over my shoulder as I sword sheathed and on my lower back as it was the most comfortable. I carried the deer back to the old man's house. He stood in front of his house and I laid the deer at his feet and looked in his eyes with a serious look and said nothing.

I understood why he did what he did and nothing else can teach you the full gravity of the importance of life than life itself. The old man then said as he looked me straight in the eye:

"Are you willing to go all the way to get you sister back?"

In a few hours I had learnt so much about the horrors of the world and I was about to hesitate then an image came to mind. My entire family was in one place again. Laughter filled the air and it reminded me of the times we had. It quickly snapped me out of the despair that had blinded me from my goal. I had to bring my family back together again. I nodded with all the strength I had left in my body.

-"I will teach you everything I know before you go search for your sister. If your resolve is too weak, then you will not be able to complete your training with me and I would have wasted my time. This is your last chance to back down."

-"I am ready."

-"You will also help in crafting your own sword. The difference between a rank A and rank S may very well be how much they understand themselves, abilities and equipment."

Believe it! -Naruto Uzumaki
