Chapter 16:

"Is everyone ready?"

Was the question of the hour. Yue Fei after making his final preparation turned to face his crew. Looking over the group once more. Everyone fully donned in their panoply of war. Many of which are still checking over their tools of death. Another habit that Yue Fei has noticed, many among the defense force had pick up on this. Always preparing, leaving no room for doubt, minimizing chances of failure. Some were sharping their blades with whet stones they had on hand. Others were checking the air of their pressure guns. Many of the generators built like massive backpacks connected to their suits, humming, and thrumming loudly. Gust of air being devoured into the canisters to fill its needy stomachs.

"Alright let's get moving." Yue Fei said as he led the way into the darkness beyond. The others ceased their checks and followed in after him. The coat of darkness covered them. The dense shadow concealed everything from their sight. Not even the bright lumens of the built in torches, within their suits could unveil the way before them. Thud, thud, thud, the heavy stomps of their armored boots, echoed. Off the stone walls, then seemingly devoured by the darkness.

All this factor caused the party to tense. Their palms began to sweat. The sensation was suffocating, the darkness seemed intent on consuming them. They felt more confined within their metal shells, the dread and unease intensified. Hands gripped upon their weapons ever tighter. Ears and eyes heightened listening, waiting. Still nothing happened, this news didn't calm their senses, but instead caused their paranoia to skyrocket, yet none dared to voice out their thoughts. No one wanted to be the one to say the first word. So onwards they went, deeper into the earth that they now find themselves in. Step by step down the stairs they descended, the stairs just didn't end.

Yue Fei who took point couldn't even see the bottom of the stairs. No matter how deep they have gone, it kept on going. 'How long do these god forsaken stairs go on for? We must have gone down at least about maybe a hundred meters down at minimal.' Yue Fei remarked to himself. 'We moving too slow, we can't linger any further Mengya needs us.' "This is taking too long; I'm going on ahead." At the end of his sentence, Yue Fei jumped off the flight of stairs, plummeting into the maw of darkness below. Moving faster than his team could react, those behind missing his body frame by the hair as they reached for him.

'Hey wait Yue!" Kim-sing cried out, whose hand grasped not but air while attempting to hail Yue Fei back. "What are you-!?" Yue Yang screamed at the same time after Yue Fei. The other cries form the rest of the team's voice boomed around them, echoing of the stone, causing the air to vibrate itself. "Why does he keep doing this shit?"

"Forget maybe he has an idea lets go." Shen Yi responded as he leapt off and plunged into the darkness like Yue Fei did. "Ha~, yeah let's just jump headfirst into a hole, not like we can get hurt even at this height right whatever do I know yeah." Then Lou Feng jumped after them after his rant.

The fall lasted just over a few minutes; Yue Fei felt it as seconds really. Before his feet connected with the stone ground, cracking it under foot. Sending spiraling spiderweb cracks underneath his armored boots, along with a thunderous boom from his landing. The lumen torches on the suit flickered briefly from the impact force of his landing. Yet still shone enough light to illumine him of his surroundings. Now he was within a circular half dome like space. With the end of the stairs merged perfectly to one end circle, at least he now knows that they do end he had thought to himself.

Moments after his landing, dark shadows fell from above around him. Each landing with a loud thud against the floor. Each one adding a rhythmic musical note of thunderclaps before finally it stops. "Well, that was a thrill if I'm going to be serious, save a lot more time than taking the stairs." Fei remarked taking a defensive stance, while peering out into the darkness around them. "Still can't see shit though. Wait hold up, wait a minute I think I see something."

"Let me guess more stairs~." Lou Feng said lazily as he angled himself toward the direction of Fei's torch. Others were moving towards the area pointed. "Nope." Came the response from Alex who was at the head. "You got a hallway now." Indeed, it was an open pathway, however seconds when Alex and the few with him had moved towards the lips of the portal. Something had occurred, the originally dark corridor became lit in flames. Not metaphorically but in the literally sense. As the corridor spawned out blue flames, held by torch actual burning torches, suspended high above the ground. Filling the area around them now with a dim bright light, now revealing the true depth of the area the group found themselves in.

"Wow~." Someone sighs out at the revelation. Yue Fei didn't recognize who it was, for he wasn't in the mind to care. For he too was captivated by what he saw. The space was much wider and larger than he had initially anticipated. The stone marble around them was nothing but a work of art. Rune writings that glowed with the same dim light of the torch flames, highly detail levels of filigree littered the surface edges. Even the tiled floor was no least different, each was a master crafted art.

"We're really in a world of high fantasy now aren't we." Nip Fung said out nonchantlly. Yue Fei couldn't disagree, no one else could in all honestly. The setting they're in couldn't be described as anything other than, what could be found in so many literatures of mankind. This instantly rose the interest of the team as many broke off from the main body. Some in pairs others in teams, Yue Fei included ae well. Joined by Kim-sing, Yue Yang, and other members of his own original team. Their little group venture off to their spot along the wall. "Wow just look at all this stuff." Lee Shin said, crouching down his suit's servos creaking at the effort. His hands brushed against a pile of gold coins, literally gold coins. "Just like in video games or dungeons in a manga or something right? This is pretty cool."

"Yeah-yeah, as thrilling as all this may be, what are you even going to buy with these, air? They're worthless to us." Mi Liu replied, who was examining a vase made of some translucent material. Filigree and engraved rune symbols littered around it, an interconnecting pattern meld together so perfectly. The artistry that brought the vase into being was fascinating what level of skill was needed to create such a piece. However, this soon led to boredom as Mi Liu tossed it aside like trash. No longer spending any more brain cells to evaluate the article. He was right however, as fulfilling as it might be to live out their childhood fantasy, experiencing it now came a totally different option about it. Privilege is truly blind to those that have it.

This didn't excluded Yue Fei; however, his mind was focused on something entirely. What caught his attention wasn't the treasures and other trinkets that littered the grounds. What truly entranced Yue Fei was the Statues. One and half meter tall statues arrayed along the wall around them, encircling them. He felt an unease chill rising from his spine. He didn't comprehend why. Juts looking at them made his senses go wild, but they were just statues of armor. Like the rest of the trinkets, the artisan that create it most have been a phenomenal master, looking at them, it would truly be a waste and a fear to even bear them into battle.

Yet still thoughts and theories began rolling through his mind as he kept his eye on the statue. Then it hit him like a cold bucket splashing over his head. Childhood dreams, dungeons. Yes, that was it a dungeon. Going by that logic scenario, and by their current predicament that was where they were currently within. There usually would be traps and protecters. Or even just dwellers that have taken up residence within such isolated areas. Their entrance had been anything but stealthy. Even more so with the rattle they were doing now. The torches lit the moment they came upon the path. So where was the welcome party?

Just as he questioned himself it happened. In his true sight even thorough hie peripheral, the change started. Ethereal light began to course the armor suits like flowing veins. Within the dark helmets a pair of bright eyes made of that same light glanced back at him. "Yue Yang!" Yue Fei cried out to him. He who was closest to the statues but was too late. Faster by just a bit, than what his eyes could nearly catch. The spear held within the statues armored gloves shot out. Its head connecting with Yue Yang's chest plate. It didn't pierce through the cobalt steel alloy, but still sent Yue Yang off his feet and flying through air. Crashing into the opposite wall.

"Yue Yang!" Yue Fei cried out again hefting Hou An's Pressure Gun aimed it and squeezed the trigger. The makeshift projectile collided with helm of the knight statue he had been eyeing. Knocking it head backwards, but it didn't stop there for the impact force must have been greater than anticipated. As the body was sent cartwheeling slamming against the wall shattering like glass. This fact didn't escape the attention of the others. Pulling out their pressure guns and took aim. However, the humans were the only attentive ones. For the inanimate suits of armor also seem to be capable of learning. Registering the threat and reacted towards it.

Many of the shots from the other pressure guns connected and made impact. Not on the correct targets however, as the knight suit shifted out of direction of the barrel seconds before the weapon even fire. They may not be fast enough to dodge the projectile flying toward them. They just had to be faster than the ones aiming the weapon. The projectiles create crates in the walls behind the knight armors as they close in on their prey. The humans drew out their melee weapons in turn. And counter charged their assailants. Propelling the many extra pounds of their heavy suits. Into a thunderous run with ease.

Yue Fei at the head of them all, stilling firing his pressure gun. On the other hand, now drawing out Hou An's Electrical Spear. Once he had his palm around the haft, he found the controls. Without stooping his motion thumbed the switch. Power coursed through spear via the cable, as sparking electric current spark. Meanwhile a shift occurred at the head of the spear. The original spear head's length doubled in length as it extended out forward from the haft. As did the staff of the weapon itself underwent the same transformation. What originally was a short spear turned into a longer pole arm weapon now. He thrust forward with all his might at the opposite lead knight armor. Who parried his thrust with relatively easy. Caught the spear tip with the flat of its blade yet was still forced back a few paces. The armored boots digging trenches into the once pristine floor tiles. A shock wave of air current swipe over them. Including shock wave of empyrical energy clashing with energies of science blasted outwards.

Soon, the clash of weapons rang like chiming bells, echoing in rhythm beats within the chamber. The melee quickly descended into absolute chaos. Expanding into a multitude of spaces even into the passageway. The jumping, spinning forms of the heavy armored humans, matching the ducking, and sliding forms of the massive equally armored forms of the knights. Yue Fei was deeply engrossed in combat with his opponent, for every strike he blocked he returned doubled in kind. Yet still equally matching his every move. Despite his sure superior strength. The fact he sent his foe back a few paces testifies to it. So why was he struggling to bring this one down, he's fought beasts ten of times bigger than this knight armor. His powerpack thrummed heavily with power, the efforts of power circulating through its current to feed his weapons. Heat poured out of the exhaust vents more rapidly, due to his usage of his articles of death.

Yue Fei thrusted and swung away always on the offensive. Never halting never ceased moving. Yet still was match each step of the way. What was happening? He just couldn't understand. From the quick glance he could see in his peripheral vison, his situation wasn't unique others were in the same predicament. Maybe even struggling he couldn't tell. It was at this moment, due to the lack of awareness to his surroundings. He had failed to notice the interloper. Coming from his rear out of his sight, the one with the spear that knocked Yue Yang away. However, before it could strike a voice boomed through the air nearly causing the humans to flinch.

"You Fucker~!" It was Yue Yang, bouncing back from the wall he crashed into. He roared boomed through the chamber. Shooting through the room, like a speeding bullet, shortening the distance in near blink of an eye. His armored gauntlet connected with the armored face of the knight that sucker punched him. "You get one hit and that's it!" Yue Yang proclaimed, before with his chainsword slammed into the chest plate. He revved the machine into life, as engines roared into life. The teeth spun instantly chipping away at the plates. Grinding through the plate as easily as one would cut through paper. One through to the other side the suit fell shattering into pieces before Yue Yang, revealing the material to be some kind of stone like marble.

"Well, that's one down so, you're next~!" Yue Yang proclaimed pointing his still reeving chainsword. The knight armor's helmet glanced between the now duo opponents, it now found itself sandwiched between two instead of the one. Though no one could have read any emotion from its armored plate face. If there were any emotions to read from it. It simply resumed its combat stance and braced itself as Yue Fei and Yue Yang resumed the offensive.
