"You have to let him go", were the last things Mikah heard before the caller ended the call. As all her plans with Jake flashed in her mind, tears started crawling down her cheeks. She was crushed at the thought of letting him go, while hitting the confirm button on her laptop for her airline tickets.
While packing her bags, Ms. Terraza finally managed to call Jake.
"...i love you", Mikah mumbled softly, right after ending her phone call with Jake, as she walked over to her closet. She reached over behind the folded shirts and got a red pouch which she slowly opened, while looking over her shoulder to check if anyone was around. Inside the pouch were 3 things: A lock of black hair, a piece of paper, and a rock. She hesitantly tore the piece of paper, flushed the lock of hair in the toilet, and was on her way to find a hammer when she saw her mom near the stairs, looking at her.
"Mom, I can't do this right now!" She screamed, as she ran to the garage. There she found the hammer and crushed the rock.
Mikah spent the rest of the day making phone calls to work, some friends, and leaving her dog, jamie at the dog hotel. She fell asleep on the couch and forgot to turn on her phone's alarm. Good thing her mom woke her up by going down their creaky staircase.
As Ms. Terraza realized it was almost 6am, she texted Jake to wait for her and that she was on her way.
Jake had to finish some work and got out of the office just as Mikah's taxi pulled up. Mikah went up to Jake, hugged him, and said, "goodbye jake, this is probably for the best", then handed him a box wrapped in black cloth. "Don't open this until you get home, don't call me, and please, go on with your life," Mikah instructed, while staring into his brown eyes.
Jake promptly replied, "ok", as he walked away and towards his car.
