Chapitre 10: 10.New life of Hassan
Two years has passed in Hasinis's life since that day, she understood one thing on that day, she has to become strong and protect herself, no one can protect her other than her own. And she can't learn to protect herself as a woman in this society full of prejudices where women are not considered as humans even but some material . She dressed herself as a man that day and became Hassan. Only she and her mother knew about this secret of Hassan. She(Hasini) became He(Hassan) and used all the benefits that a man got but a woman was devoid of.
Hassan got freedom to move about, travel alone safely, got many work, opened her own wine shop in the city of Irawati, is still studying in a martial art vidyalay(college) in Irawati, got herself education, scholarship in that college and will be going to have a degree soon. She is the best in the college, no one can beat Hassan in anything, it was a very good school built by the king to educate young men. Of course the college was not free, Sons of landlords, elite family, princes of neighboring states came to study there, they mainly laid emphasis on valour, courage, sword fighting, archery, martial arts, scriptures, politics, history etc.
The Vidyalay was run by the commander of the king's military Bheem master himself. The other teachers were courageous military officers of the king. Only one best student each year will get the scholarship according to the interview on administration; As students who pass out from the Vidyalay becomes administrative important officers of the Iravati kingdom(Like civil servants of present day) many villages head or tax collector or military officials. Hassan outstanded every interviewer.
She always defeats other students who are usually the princes or landlord's sons in every aspect be it archery, sword fighting, fist fighting, or martial arts. In written exams she always gets maximum grades. Although she has got many good friends but are also jealoused by many. The prince of Ujjain cannot stand Hassan, he tried to harass Hassan along with his followers many times during their stay in the college but Hassan got out of that with her wit. Hasinis's mother still lives in the village, Hassan visits her in holidays and give money to her so that her mother need not work hard anymore in this old age.
Hasini as Hassan is doing well in Irawati now, she does classes, runs wine shop in the evening, comes back to the hostel at night , studies, practice sword fighting till late night, sleeps hardly for two hours and get up early morning (when others are still asleep) to practice archery and martial arts, then class.Such smooth new life became of a woman dressed as a man. Such hardworking man was obviously loved by all teachers and the story of Hassan went to Commander Bheem 's ear.
