They had to ruin my day. I was in the school trying to finish the papers. Heard a noise that instantly made my instincts sharpen.
The howl of wolves made it obvious. I remember that the guy who killed the wolves of the House of Werewolves was studying in this place of learning.
The smell of flesh being roasted invaded the room. Two sharp claws came at us without warning. I drew my weapon and stabbed it in the eyes of the wolf-kin. Looked the wolf-kin right in the eye. Wondered what he was thinking?
Wolf-kins are dangerous because of their impervious nature. Hard to kill. It takes silver to kill them. But a stab in the eye with a dagger regularly coated with poison could kill them. Their brain stops functioning and they die.
"So much for the school life, eh?" I sighed badly.
"You killed a werewolf?"
The professor who had been able to dodge promptly said. His ruffled hair and crumpled face looking at me.
"I guess?"
"What are you, Catherine Tanny?"
He called me Catherine Tanny. Aside from 'Botan' which an elderly person named me once. My true name was Catherine Tanny. Daughter of nobody, and father of Mr. Nobody. I was an orphan that lived her life killing people until I met a certain person.
Didn't matter what he did but he ended up influencing my path. Making me realize that I was not invincible. I was still human. He threatened me. Even had such fierce eyes glaring at me. I liked those eyes. I like men who can be rough and had their convictions chained and nailed.
But enough about why I choose to be friends with the guy who was the one who gave me a beating. I had to vent this righteous anger that was swirling inside of me.
"Fucking pups!"
This was supposed to be a new day and the start of a new life. I was looking forward to this day. I couldn't even sleep a wink and had to look for a way to had some fun.
"Now you guys ruined it for me."
I wanted my life here to be peaceful. But not even a day and here I was clenching my dagger at my enemies again. The wolf-kins have riddled the halls with blood and gore. The smell of corpses polluted the halls. One of the wolf-kind was feasting on the blood of a fellow student. That bastard didn't notice me. I stabbed him right in the eye and continued.
The professor shouted something. I couldn't remember. All I did was took the right hallway, and killed beasts. I went to the central part of the school and killed the wolf-kind that was trying to rip a hole through the room that had students in it.
I specialized in sneaking and killing my targets. So what if the whole school had entire troops of wolf-kind pups? That didn't matter to me at all.
I spent some time killing the pups. I thought of looking for that guy who provoked these people, but I decided to change my mind and look for Goodwin.
He wasn't in the classroom. He was nowhere to be found. He was a guy that could beat me up. I had confidence in him so I continued helping the students while not thinking about his situation.
The students were able to repel the wolf pups who have invaded the academy. The ringleader of the group had been defeated by Leonov, the same guy who massacred an entire house of the wolf pups.
I had no opinion of what he had done or what he should have not done.
It was their problem, not mine. I don't want to be involved with the Under-Society. But my killing here would surely be noticed by some people.
I left the bloody hallway that was produced by Leonov. I still couldn't find Goodwin.
While I was searching I encountered a man whose lower half was cleaved. His eyes showed strength but he was dying. There was simply no way for him to survive.
"Miss, please find my friend. He was being chased by the wolves and tried to save me."
His eyes became glazed. His mouth hanged open. The man wasn't breathing anymore.
"Your friend, huh."
I felt odd. I stared at the dead man before leaving. His words formed an impression inside my head.
But I guess he truly was a good person at heart. He thought about his friend who tried to save him in his last moments. That was something you will have a hard time finding these days.
My concern for that man and his words went away after I choose to search for the inner gardens. The place was pristine and doesn't have any corpses in it.
I thought that I would not find anything until I saw him in such a terrible state. I hurried to him. I checked his status and was glad that he was breathing. His body seems to have been paralyzed by the strong impact and his grievous wounds left a gash on his body.
"Hex?" I said.
He did not reply. He stared blankly at the window that he probably fell. That window was where I had killed two wolf pups as well. Did that mean those two pups did him in like this?
"And here I thought you were invincible as well."
I had thought that he was the better fighter. But this reality had set my mind straight again. It didn't matter how strong you are. There days you would fail badly.
Even the person who gave me a beating couldn't roll the dice properly and failed. He was now in front of me defeated and dazed. The look on his face was rather tragic.
I cannot make fun of him or think that he was pathetic. It only made me realize further that the lifestyle that I had lived was far too dangerous. I was too self-absorb in my job that I couldn't even recognize that I was heading for a path of destruction.
