Jake and Talsia both saw the sigil projected into the sky, the light of an Ibex that glowed brightly in the sky illuminating their surroundings. Both of their eyes reflected the blue light as their mouths stood agape. Jake was the first to recover.
"We have to go now," while Jake found their environment a stimulating study, he had no interest in dying in this forest. He had yet to tell Tuja how he felt about her. He still had to leave his mark on the Xuhan techno-world and add all his knowledge to its ever-growing records.
Talsia had been interrupted by the sigil unable to explain her strange reverence for Calvis, and she was sure that Jake thought her insane. Seeing him determined to run toward the sigil, she decided to help him return to his home even if it was the last things she did.
Both quickly gathered their supplies and doused the fire still simmering behind them and immediately ran toward the jungle in the direction of the sigil in a practice manner.
When they originally arrived in the jungle, it would have taken Jake several hours to run to the sigil. Jake's physic had changed dramatically from before when he had to to take a breath when running long distances regularly.
Talsia noticed Jake's transformation. She used to be able to outrun him, but now was only able to keep up with his aggressive running form.
The animals in the forest seemed to hide from Jake's lumbering form in fear of his massive strides. Jake and Talsia ran unimpeded in the direction of the still glowing beacon. When they arrived, they finally came face to face with the monster that had led a constant chase for since Jake's arrival in this dimensional space.
Jake and Talsia looked on with fear as the monster seemed to notice them. The monsters 70-foot tall body seemed to straighten, its strange form became even more defined because of that. It had large bowlegged hind legs, with front legs similar to a very large dear would have. It had horns and a spine that seemed to project out of its back. The scariest part was the head which appeared to house a pair of intelligent eyes and its mouth shaped like a beak covered in black and sickly scales.
Jake and Talisa Froze at the same time, shell shocked thinking the same thing, 'we're so dead.'
Jake out of the corner of his eyes, saw that the sigil resided above a portal to another dimensional space which Jake hoped was his techno-world.
As the creature opened its hideous mouth, a foul smell assaulted their nostrils.
The creature began to speak sarcastically, "you finally arrived, I expected you to take much longer with how slow you were running away from me before. I guess your race can grow, truly amazing."
Jake was amazed at its voice as it seemed to vibrate and resonate, creating the effect of many voices talking at the same time.
The creature's tone became more serious when it said, "Now you have two options. You can either stay in this jungle until you die or you can let me eat one of you, and I'll allow the other to pass."
Jake, despite the tension, started to laugh at the creature. Did it think that he would sacrifice his friend. He had spent, what felt like a lifetime, with her through life and death struggles fighting beasts surviving off of nothing but each other's companionship. Jake would rather die than submit to this monster, and Talsia felt the same as she looked at the beast and shook her head.
The creature seeing their hesitance said, "Okay, I'll choose for you."
The monster bit Talsia in half eating her top half as an audible crunching can be heard. The beast ignored her lower half and leftover organs before running away from Jake faster than he could react. Jake looks at her leftover organs and still twitching legs before running toward the portal as quickly as he could not even looking back at her mangled leftovers.
