Nolan quickly summarized the story including how Henry had needed to get married to retain control of his father's corporation. As he told the story he could see from Wu that she was struggling to hold a straight face. But as her calm smile held, he knew she was a pro at dealing with strange situations.
After he sipped his water upon finishing, she looked at him with a bit of sadness. "No wonder you two don't get along. What you wanted for our little Ellie angel was completely different. Your goals were on completely opposite ends of the spectrum which is why the drama played out as it did."
"Do you think less of me because I don't want Henry to just let my sister die the way she was?"
"No. You are her family. Also, based on today's interaction with him, I doubt his intent was for her to die."
Nolan rolled his eyes. "You saw his face when he thought she has passed on."
"His facial expression was perfect sadness." Wu said with a harsh tone. "Maybe he is one of those people who likes dealing with his emotions in private. I for one am that way. Henry may not have ever intended to be married to who he is. But he is a perfectly charming acceptable husband. My parents had an arranged marriage and it turned out all right. He's quite handsome. Henry was also actually excited to see that Ellie was going to be well. It's not the worse situation to be in when you suddenly find that you're married to someone on Forbes List of Richest Men."
That shut Nolan up for a second as he considered this. Wu did have a strange way of rationalizing a bad situation. He began again. "I don't want to have Henry as a member of my family. It's always been the two of us. There isn't room for anyone else. He's also not someone whom I have taken a particular liking to."
"He is not a drunkard. He has no diagnosis he is hiding. He has money. He is as far as we know not seen any other female since he got married. He's not abusive such that other women he has been with have said anything less than complimentary. He has a perfectly good personality. By all accounts he's bloody perfect." Wu sighed as she began to slice a noodle in half. "I wouldn't have minded if I found myself in her situation."
Nolan tried to think for once before she spoke. Henry Wong he realized was not something he would ever agree with someone like Wu on. But he finally decided instead of pushing the point he could try an alternative path of conversation. "That sounds barbaric coming from someone as accomplished as you."
"Barbaric? I mean I have no care for men who have inherited wealth and idle it away. They never are good for themselves or for other people. I have seen men who treat women like toys they play with before they discard. I know men who only dance from one delight and drink to another. There are so many worse men." Her smile was pure venom. "I have danced many timed with that kind of fire. But you know it's only fun to sink your teeth into something if there's a struggle."
It was not hard to picture, Nolan realized, Wu was a catch for anyone to have. "I have a lot hit list of people I would love for you to sink your teeth into."
