Chapitre 27: Time For a Change
Seeing the bundle of energy that clung to his arm with eyes shining in excitement and surprise, Magna didn't have the heart to ask her to let him go.
He felt the death glares coming from Qrow and Taiyang but he could only ignore them as Ruby gazed at Magna with a burning curiosity.
Magna kneeled down until they were about the same height as he smiled and said, "What's wrong Ruby?"
Ruby shook her head as she excitedly asked, "Um… Big brother, what's your semblance like? Why did it make Zwei freeze?"
Hearing her curious tone, Magna turned towards Qrow and Taiyang to help him.
Of course, as soon as he looked back for help, Taiyang instantly moved towards them as he silently thought, 'My daughter is too young to be hugging boys. She'll have to wait for the day I die before she starts acting intimate with boys. Actually, let's make it a week after I die just to make sure I'm dead.'
However, before he could take even a single step, a hand abruptly grabbed him, stopping him in place.
Qrow shook his head as he stared intently at Magna and said, "I'm actually quite curious about what your semblance is. You can use all sorts of abilities so there's gotta be something special about your semblance."
Sweat dripped down Magna's forehead as he drew a blank. Obviously, he wasn't gonna tell them the truth about his semblance as he didn't trust a certain white haired principal with the knowledge of the sea of stars inside his soul. Only the heavens knew what sort of things he would do to gain access to the sea of stars.
But he also wanted a perfect explanation for his semblance and when the abilities change. One that was outrageous enough for them to believe.
He hesitated for a couple seconds before a look of determination appeared on his face. He smiled as he instantly started bullshitting, "My semblance is called Skill Creation."
Just as he finished speaking, everyone around him fell silent. His parents, Qrow, Taiyang, the little girls, everyone stared at him with wide eyes.
Judging by the name alone, everyone could guess what his semblance did, more or less. Qrow even dropped his flask as he shakily asked, "M-Magna, you don't mean…"
Magna just smiled as he said, "It's exactly what your thinking. My semblance gives me the ability to 'create' skills."
As he said that, Magna couldn't help but internally sigh. He knew that even this little lie will bring him truckloads of trouble but he had no choice. If later on, Magna was caught using an entirely new set of skills by someone like Qrow, he wouldn't be asked about how he has the means to use different abilities but forced and tortured until he tells them.
Even thought his lie wasn't the truth, it wasn't exactly a lie either. When he gains the memory of a star cluster, he does kinda 'create' the abilities he uses.
Suddenly, Qrow's expression became immeasurably serious as he stared at Magna and coldly said, "Magna, you better not be lying or telling a joke. This is a serious matter. If what your saying is true… then I'm sorry but I'm going to have to take you directly to Beacon. With your semblance, we can't afford to NOT have you out in the fields."
Magna instantly frowned as he calmly replied, "I'm not joking and neither am I going with you to Beacon."
Qrow seemed to become agitated as he slammed the table and yelled, "Show me proof! Prove that you're telling the truth! If you do, I'll… consider not taking you to Beacon."
Gritting his teeth, Magna glared at Qrow. He knew Qrow was lying as he was sure that if he showed proof, Qrow would stop at nothing to get Magna to go to Beacon.
In the end, Magna knew he had to provide some evidence to back his claim.
Taking a deep breath, Magna closed his eyes as he instantly entered the sea of stars.
Seeing the familiar grey stars, Magna smiled as this was as good a time as any to test what happens when he changes abilities. As if responding to his desire, the star representing 'Naruto Uzumaki' drilled into the white speck inside his heart as the stars blinked out of existence for a second before reappearing.
Magna just drifted about for a couple minutes before coming to a stop. Nervous, Magna started sweating as he slowly reached towards the star cluster that floated infront of him. As his hand drew closer, the world around him dimmed until nothing but Magna and the star cluster existed.
Before he realised it, the star cluster quietly floated above his palm. Suddenly, a soft voice quietly chanted, "Crush it… crush it… crush it"
Without any hesitation, Magna crushed the star cluster. At almost the same time as he crushed it, the star cluster burst into tendrils as they quickly fused with Magna's hand.
The process wasn't long but it was painful. It was like holding his hand above an open flame as thin needles pierced his palm.
When the last bit of the star cluster was about to be absorbed, the dull grey slowly became a bright, luminescent green before fully integrating into his body.
When he thought the worse part was over, a piercing headache assaulted him as he felt what seemed to be memories flow into him as random images quickly flashed inside his mind.
Before he realised it, Magna was already back in reality as he gasped for air while heavily sweating. However, a childlike smile could be seen on his face.
"Do you need some time to rest?" Said Qrow as he felt quite bad. Seeing Magna sweating and out of breath, he could tell that whatever Magna just did took a lot out of him.
Instead of replying, Magna stood up and excitedly said, "No need, I'm just a little tired. Nevermind that though, let's go outside. I wanna show you guys my new abilities."
Everyone gazed at Magna's leaving back for a couple seconds before standing up and following him with intrigue and expectation on there faces, curious to see what Magna created.
