Chapitre 60: Cooperation Achieved
There is nothing unusual happened during lunch. There is only the spoon, and fork sound hit the ceramic plate throughout the dining room. Henry wiped his mouth with the napkin as he already finished his food.
In no time, Elise and Soeharto finished their food too. The waiter quickly cleaned the table and brought the dessert.
"This is the dessert specially made by my chef, and it's only served for a special occasion." Soeharto introduced the dessert to Henry
"Ohh, thank you for your hospitality then, Mr President." Henry humbly said. Then he took the special spoon that came with the dessert and immediately tasted it.
Henry put down the spoon and savouring the taste inside his mouth.
"Praise for the chef." Henry can't say anything else. The dessert was genuinely exceptional, and it was the first time for him to tasted something like that.
"Haha, many of my guest that tasted it said something like you too," Soeharto said with a smile on his face. Soon, they were chatting about the dessert and the topic around it. Elise occasionally inserted into their chat with her own opinion.
As their chat continued to heat up, the chat topic shifted from dessert to more substantial topic like business and politic. But it did not last long as someone entered the dining room. It was Prawiro, the Finance Minister.
"Mr President, the document already finished," Prawiro said respectfully.
"Well, it seems our chat will be continued later, Mr President," Henry said while rose from his seat. Elise immediately followed suit and stood beside Henry.
Soeharto rose from his seat and say, "Then what are we waiting for? Let's go."
Then Prawiro was guiding them back to the meeting room earlier. Henry and Elise sat back to their seat earlier while Soeharto was reviewing the paper with the 3 Minister in another table.
"Why you bought so many mines, dear ?" Elise asked in a whisper as she can't hold her curiosity anymore.
Henry pinched Elise nose lightly as her curious face is too adorable.
"You will know it later."
Elise pouted when she heard Henry reply. Unfortunately, she can't do anything about it. So she distances her chair away from Henry a little bit. When Henry wants to tease her again, he interrupted by Prawiro.
"Mr Henry, this is the report of the 38 mines you want, please inspect it." Prawiro handed a stack of paper to Henry.
Henry immediately turned into a serious expression. He received the paper and carefully inspected each of it with great care. Elise stopped her temper as she knew Henry was serious right now. She brought her chair closer back to Henry and tried to inspect the paper too.
Elise expression turned into a shocked one when she saw the report that Henry held. The report consisted of the complete information of all the 38 mines. It included the reserves, exact location, and other important information.
Elise found the 38 mines basically covered all the natural resources that Indonesia has. 5 Coal Mines, 4 Gold Mines, 3 Silver Mine, 3 Natural Gas Well, 3 Tin Mine, 3 Copper Mine and the rest of it covered all other minerals like Bauxite, Platinum, Cobalt and many other.
Not just that, the price for each mine already marked clearly on the side of it. It started from $500,000 to $5 Million each. Although Elise never went outside of Indonesia, she still knew the value of the US Dollar.
$1 can be changed for Rp415, and Rp415 is the average cost of living family of 3 for three days. So the string of USD in the paper made her dizzy. Although she knew that Henry was a rich man, it's not this much!
Elise surprise didn't end there, the total amount of money at the end of the report is even more shocking, $51.6 Million!!! That's not 51.6 Million Rupiah, it was US Dollar! Elise opened her mouth in O shape, but she quickly covered it with her hand.
Henry smiled as he already expected Elise reaction to this report. He had not told Elise his exact wealth, he only let her knew that he was a rich successful Author. Henry put down the report paper to the table.
"Mr President, you know it's a bit hard to gather $51.6 Million at once for me now. Well, I can pay $9 Million with cheque now, just assume it as my advance payment. I will pay the rest later in the US at the latest 3 months." Henry said with a smile.
"Hahaha, no problem. Do as you want, Mr Henry." Soeharto laughed. Then he took a stack of paper from a briefcase and handed it to Henry.
Henry checked and found it was the legal contract for the transaction. The mining right is only valid for 30 years and it needed to be renewed once the contract period is over. But he had the priorities to renew it once the contract is done.
He can mine all the mineral in the 1 Miles radius of the mine area he had, but he can't build any commercial building other than for the mine. After carefully checked each term of the contract, Henry determined there is no legal loophole.
"Mr President, can I borrow your pen? It seems my pen fell down in the dining room." Henry asked.
Soeharto glanced at Prawiro who immediately reacted. Prawiro then handed a box to Henry.
"My little gift for our cooperation. A fountain pen specially designed by Cross for me. Initially, I plan to use it for myself, but I decided to gift it for you." Soeharto explained the pen as Henry opened the box.
"Thank you for the gift, Mr President," Henry said while held the pen. Then he proceeded to sign the contract quickly.
Soeharto smiled widely when he saw Henry signed it. He sighed by how easy it's to get $51.6 Million just by sold 38 mines.
'Maybe I should sell another batch next time.' Soeharto thought.
Henry rose from his seat after finished sign the contract and extended his hand to Soeharto. Soeharto followed suit and shook Henry's hand.
"Happy cooperation, Mr President."
"Happy cooperation, Mr Henry."
Unknowingly by anyone that at this moment, the wheel of history had changed its track.
