Chapitre 7: Suicide mission
The chosen men left their armor and weapons with the generals and left before dawn. Other men did the same, aiming to blend in with the locals and gather information before a battle starts.
"Dune, how many men are left?" general Nale asked
Dune took a minute to count and answered "120, sir"
After hearing that the two generals started talking to each other outside of ear shot. They came back and gathered the men into a circle.
"We need to ask you all a question." general Roca said "Would anyone be willing to join the enemy?"
The men were taken aback by the general's words, a general that had shown absolute loyalty for his country ever since he join the army.
"Before you kill him for treason, hear him out first." Nale said calming the men
"OK, we need a volunteer to enter the enemy ranks as a spy." Roca explained "He'd pose as a man from the outskirts of the country wanting to enter the army."
The mission was crazier than the last mission and had a higher chance of failure if there is any form of vetting.
"What would that man have to do?" a soldier asked
"He'd only have to look for any weapons that could pose a massive threat to us or more importantly the main army." Roca replied
Some men looked like they were seriously considering the mission, weighing the pros and cons carefully but after some time no man stepped up. The risks considerably outweighed the reward in the men's eyes but the generals' expected that.
"We knew this was a long shot, asking you men more than you need to provide." Roca said calmly "You're already in enemy territory, in a small group that's not guaranteed to succeed, so I'll do the infiltration."
The men stood silent, listening to every word general Roca said knowing that this could very well be his last set of orders. He was stoic not showing anything while he made his speech and at the end the men just bowed, showing respect to one of the men leading them. He dropped his weapons and armor and returned a bow and left, heading towards Datos leaving Nale and Dune in charge of the remnants of the group.
Roca would later be known as the perpetrator of the Pantal purge.
