Chapitre 87: Another Duty Calls

"In a hurry to leave gentlemen?"

Eiji cordially greeted the upstart young office. Upon further observation, he guessed the man was probably about the same age as them.

"Come." The young officer persistently demanded their attention.

Eiji flicked a glance towards Kei and Sean next to him. They held in their emotions as they followed the officer towards the factory building.

He led them around the back paths and down a slop towards a large western hard-wood building that was painted white.

There were a lot of sickly looking people coming and going from the place.

"Ohno's boy said you were German doctors from Weismen." The officer's eyes narrowed and held out a gloved hand.

Tyne understand what he needed and passed over their papers for validation.

The officer read the papers with an expressionless face. Sighed and eventually returned them.

"Looks liked your papers are in order." He added. "So you need to return to your business I presume."

Tyne peered at the young officer.

He was tall and lean, lacking the muscle tone of a seasoned soldier. Yet the broadness of his hands suggested he wasn't impartial to physical work either.

Contrary to all the other male stragglers of the building, his face was smooth and clean shaven. Albeit a common face type for a man of their age. His stoic expression and perfect posture was his most noticeable feature. Definitely a skilled soldier of some kind. Maybe he had been trained in the navy, but found better ranks within the local authorities.

"We do. Although..."

Tyne's voice trailed when he saw a number of kids lying still on tatami mats within the building. When the shoji door had continued to open and close behind them from people's coming and goings.

The officer sighed. "We lost our doctor to an air raid a few nights ago. Our nurse is doing what she can. Well, she's no doctor. The training bases uses their own. No need to send resources here."

Eiji glanced to Tyne. Along with Sean and Kei. Tyne sighed, realizing the decision was his to make as their leader.

"Being travelling prosthetists gives us leeway to be in one place for a period of time." Tyne said, which made the officer smile and formally introduce himself.

"My name is Takahashi, Ren. I'm the authority of this place." Ren said and mumbled with an undertone of forlorn. "What's left of it."

Tyne introduced the others under their cover identities.

"Formalities out of the way. Who would you like us to see first?"

They entered the makeshift clinic where Ren left to the care of the overworked middle aged nurse who was on the verge of collapsing herself.

She was able to give them a brief rundown of the place. Tyne reassured her that she could catch a few hours rest whilst he and the others tended to the wounded.

Reluctantly, she obeyed. Leaving the clinic to their care.
